Do you find it difficult to use your keyboard in low-light conditions? Many Dell laptops come with a backlit keyboard, an appealing feature that makes the keys easier to see in the dark or in dimly lit places. Today, Mytour will guide you on how to check if your Dell laptop has a backlit keyboard, as well as how to activate this feature (if available).
Steps

Check your Dell laptop's keyboard. To determine if your laptop has a backlit keyboard, look for specific keys on the keyboard. If your laptop features a backlit keyboard, the lighting symbol (an 'A' inside a box with rays of light extending outward) will be printed on the F6, F10, or right arrow key. If you see this symbol, it means the keyboard is backlit.
- If the keyboard has multiple right arrow keys, just check the key in the lower-right corner of the keyboard.

Ensure that your laptop’s BIOS is updated. BIOS stands for Basic Input/Output System, which refers to the startup processes of your computer related to various hardware components (keyboard, graphics card, hard drive, etc.). Updating the BIOS ensures you have access to all available settings for the backlit keyboard.
- You can skip this step, but be aware that some options may be limited when enabling the backlit keyboard. Visit Dell’s website for instructions on updating the BIOS for your specific model.

Hold the Fn key and press the appropriate lighting symbol. If your laptop is equipped with a backlit keyboard, you can hold the Fn key (usually located at the lower-left corner of the keyboard) and press the key containing the lighting symbol you previously identified. Press this key combination again to cycle through the different backlight settings on your laptop.
- If nothing happens when you press the F10 key to toggle the backlight settings, you may need to hold the Fn key and press Esc to reset and try again.
- Each Dell laptop may have different backlit keyboard settings. You will likely have at least three options: Off, Dim, and Bright. Try cycling through all the settings to find the one that best suits your needs.
