This guide will walk you through the process of removing McAfee Security Center from your Windows or Mac computer.
Steps
On Windows

Close McAfee if it is running. Right-click the McAfee icon in the bottom-right corner of the screen and select Exit to quit the program.
- You may need to click the upward arrow to reveal the running programs list first.

Open the Start menu. Click the Windows icon at the bottom left of the screen, or press the ⊞ Win key.

Type add or remove programs in the Start menu. This will display a list of programs on your PC, with the first entry being the system feature Add or Remove Programs.

Click on Add or remove programs. This button appears at the top of the Start window.

Scroll down and click on McAfee Security Center. The icon is a red shield with a white 'M' in the center.

Click Uninstall twice. This option is located beneath the program name (Windows 10) or at the top of the Programs and Features window (Windows 7).

Click Yes if prompted. This will initiate the McAfee uninstaller.

Follow the on-screen instructions. The process includes confirming your decision and selecting specific McAfee components to keep, if desired. Once the on-screen steps are completed, McAfee will be uninstalled from your PC.
On Mac

Open Finder. This application has a blue face icon located on the Mac's dock.

Click on Applications. This button is located on the left side of the Finder window. This step will open the Applications folder within the main Finder window.

Search for the McAfee application. The program has a red shield icon with a white 'M' on it. You may need to scroll down to locate it.

Click and drag McAfee to the Trash. The Trash icon is located at the bottom right corner of the screen; dropping McAfee here will uninstall the program from your Mac.
Tip
- If McAfee is running while you're attempting to uninstall it, you might encounter an error message stating that you cannot remove a running program.
Warning
- Uninstalling McAfee before installing another antivirus program may leave your computer vulnerable to infections.
