This article provides a step-by-step guide on how to update Microsoft's Internet Explorer browser. After the release of Internet Explorer 11, Microsoft stopped supporting Internet Explorer and ceased creating further updates for it. Internet Explorer is only available on Windows 7, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10, even though Microsoft Edge is the default browser for these operating systems.
Steps
Update Internet Explorer to version 11

Visit the official download page for Internet Explorer 11 at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/18520/download-internet-explorer-11-offline-installer. Open your web browser and go to the Microsoft page to download Internet Explorer 11.

Scroll down to the language selection section. On the left side of the page, you'll find a list of available languages.

Click on your operating system name. The name of your computer’s operating system will appear on the right side of the selected language section. Clicking the link will start downloading the installer file to your computer.
- The Windows 7 installer will also work on Windows 8.1 and Windows 10, provided you select the correct format for your version, such as 32-bit or 64-bit.
- If you're unsure about the bit version of your computer (32-bit or 64-bit), you can check by right-clicking on 'This PC', selecting Properties, and looking for the bit number next to 'System type'.

Right-click on the Internet Explorer setup icon. This icon is typically displayed on your desktop screen.

Click Yes when prompted. This will open the Internet Explorer setup window.

Follow the on-screen instructions. This includes agreeing to Microsoft's terms by clicking I agree, then selecting Next, choosing the installation location, and deciding whether or not to create a desktop icon for the program.

Click on Finish (Complete). This option is located at the bottom-right corner of the window. Clicking this will finalize the Internet Explorer installation process.
Enable update feature for Internet Explorer 10

Launch Internet Explorer. It is the program with the blue "e" icon. You can also search for it by typing "Internet Explorer" in the Start menu.

Click on ⚙️. This icon appears at the top-right corner of the Internet Explorer window.

Click on About Internet Explorer (Internet Explorer Info). This option is located at the bottom of the menu currently displayed.

Check the box labeled "Install new versions automatically". You will find this option in the middle of the About Internet Explorer window.

Click on Close (Close). This button is located at the bottom of the About Internet Explorer window. By doing so, Internet Explorer will now update automatically.
Update Microsoft Edge

Close Microsoft Edge if it's currently open. When Edge has a new update, the browser must be closed to complete the update process.

Open Start. You can click the Windows icon at the bottom left of the screen or press the ⊞ Win key.

Click on the ⚙️ icon. It is located at the bottom left corner of the Start menu. This action will open the Settings page.

Click on Update & Security. You’ll find this option near the bottom of the Settings page.

Click on Check for updates. This button is located near the top of the Update & Security page.

Wait for the update process to complete. Once you see the message "Your device is up to date" at the top of the page, your Microsoft browser has been updated.
Tip
- Microsoft Edge serves as a replacement for Internet Explorer on the Windows 10 platform.
Warning
- Although updated on the Windows 10 platform, Internet Explorer is still considered a "weak" browser. Therefore, avoid using it unless there is no other option available.
- Do not download Internet Explorer from any source other than Microsoft's official website.
