This guide will show you how to connect to other mobile devices and desktop computers using Wi-Fi Direct on your Android device.
Steps
Connecting to a device via Wi-Fi Direct
Open the Android app list. This shows all the apps installed on your device.
Tap on the Wi-Fi option in the Settings menu. On certain devices, you may first need to tap on Network & Internet before selecting Wi-Fi. From there, you can adjust your Wi-Fi settings and connect to other devices.
Tap on the three vertical dots icon. You can find this button in the upper-right corner of the screen. This opens the drop-down menu.
Select the Wi-Fi Direct option in the drop-down menu. This step scans the surrounding area and lists all nearby devices available for Wi-Fi Direct connection.
- Depending on the device and its current software version, the Wi-Fi Direct button might appear at the bottom of the Wi-Fi screen, instead of in the drop-down menu.
Tap on a device to initiate the connection. This action will send a connection request to the selected device. The other party will have 30 seconds to accept the request and connect via Wi-Fi Direct.
Share photos via Wi-Fi Direct
Open the device's photo library.
Tap and hold on a photo. This action will select the image and reveal new icons at the top of the screen.
Select Wi-Fi Direct. This step will display a list of nearby devices that you can send files to using Wi-Fi Direct.
Tap on a device from the list. The device owner will receive a notification asking if they want to accept the file transfer request from you. If they accept, they will receive the photo you're sending on their device.
Warning
- Some mobile devices may require a third-party app to transfer files via Wi-Fi Direct.
