Zenodo is a research data repository developed by OpenAIRE and CERN to provide a platform for researchers to deposit datasets. Launched in 2013, it allows researchers from all fields to upload files as large as 50 GB. This article focuses not on the main function of uploading research files, but on how to search and extract the uploaded files.
Steps
Searching and Filtering on Zenodo
Visit the Zenodo homepage at https://zenodo.org/.

Zenodo - An Independent Repository. As recommended by the Seventh Framework Programme - FP7 (see: Open Access in FP7) and the Horizon 2020 Programme - H2020 (see: Open Access in Horizon 2020), European researchers are encouraged to deposit their final articles or manuscripts in:
- The repository associated with their affiliated research institution;
- A subject-based repository;
- Zenodo, an independent repository for papers that might not be hosted in institutional or subject-based repositories. For this reason, Zenodo contains only a portion, not all, of Europe's open access resources.

Zenodo's Search Tool. The search tool on Zenodo is simple, consisting of a search box with the default text Search, where you can type any search term and press Enter, or click the small magnifying glass icon to initiate the search.
What does Zenodo hold?
Open Access
Closed Access
Restricted Access

- Images: 110,656 items, accounting for 54.01% of the total uploaded items on Zenodo.
- Publications: 69,851 items, making up 34.12%.
- Software: 15,390 items, which is 7.52%.
- Datasets: 5,129 items, representing 2.51%.
- Presentations: 2,234 items, or 1.09%.
- Posters: 960 items, comprising 0.47%.
- Videos: 299 items, amounting to 0.15%.
- Lectures: 211 items, totaling 0.10%.

Filtering on Zenodo. Using the checkboxes listed above, you can easily filter the results by selecting the checkbox next to each option. For example:
- By selecting the checkbox next to the Open option in the Access Right list, you will get a result count matching the number in parentheses next to the option, which is 186,957 open access items. This number will update over time as researchers continue to upload to Zenodo.
- By selecting the checkbox next to Software in the Type list, you will get a result count matching the number in parentheses next to the option, which is 15,390 software items. This number will also change over time as researchers keep uploading to Zenodo.

- Best match - most relevant.
- Most recent - most recent. This is the default option.
- Publication date - date of publication.
- Title - title.
- Conference session - conference session.
- Journal - journal.
