This article will show you how to access messages from unfamiliar users on Facebook Messenger.
Steps to Follow
Use the Messenger App

Open the Messenger app. The app's icon looks like a lightning bolt inside a blue speech bubble. If you're not logged in yet, you'll need to enter your phone number, press Continue, and then enter your password.

Select the People tab (for people). This tab is located in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
- If you're currently in a conversation, tap the Back button located at the top-left corner of the screen first.

Choose the Message Requests option (for pending messages). This section appears at the top of the page, where all messages from non-friends on Facebook are displayed.
- If there are no pending messages, you'll see a notification saying 'No Requests'.
- You will also find a list of suggested contacts in this section.
Use the Facebook page

Open Facebook. This action will show your Facebook News Feed.
- If you're not logged in, enter your email address (or phone number) and password in the fields at the top-right of the page, then click Log In.

Click the icon with the lightning bolt. This icon is located among the options in the top-right corner of the Facebook page. Clicking it will instantly open a dropdown window displaying your most recent conversations.

Select View All in Messenger (View all in Messenger). This option is located at the bottom of the Messenger dropdown window.

Click the ⚙️ icon. This gear-shaped icon is located at the top-left corner of the Messenger page.

Select Message Requests (Pending messages). This action will display all pending messages from users who are not your Facebook friends.

Select See Filtered Requests (View filtered messages). Filtered messages are those marked as spam by Facebook. If no messages appear in this section, it means you have no pending messages.
Advice
- Pending messages are hidden so you won't be disturbed by spam.
