Today, Mytour will guide you on how to play DVD discs on a Windows computer using the VLC media player. Currently, Windows 10 does not have a built-in option to watch DVDs, but you can download the VLC player for free to play DVD discs and watch videos. If your Windows computer does not have an integrated DVD drive, you will need to purchase an internal or external DVD drive to watch DVDs.
Steps
Install VLC

Visit the VLC download page. Enter the address http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ into your browser.

Click on Download VLC. This orange button is located on the right side of the page. Once clicked, the latest version of the VLC player will start downloading to your computer.
- Depending on your browser, you may need to select a download location and/or click Save or Download to initiate the file transfer.

Double-click the VLC installation file. This file resembles an orange and white traffic cone icon and is typically found in your computer's default download folder (e.g., Downloads, desktop).

Click Yes when prompted. The VLC setup window will appear.

Select your language and click OK. Use the dropdown menu to choose your preferred language.

Click Next on each screen. This ensures VLC is installed with optimal settings.

Click on Install. This option is located at the bottom of the setup page. The installation process for the VLC media player on your computer will begin.
- You can monitor the installation progress by observing the green bar in the pop-up window.

Click Finish when prompted. The window will close, and the installation will be complete. The VLC media player is now installed on your computer.
Set VLC as the default video player

Click on Apps. This icon resembles a list of horizontal lines with bullet points.

Click on Default apps. This tab is located on the left side of the Apps menu.

Scroll down to the "Video player" section and click on the current application. The default application is usually Movies & TV, located directly below the "Video player" heading.

Click on VLC media player. The application features an orange and white traffic cone icon in the pop-up window. VLC Media Player is now set as the default player for all multimedia files on your computer.
Play DVD using VLC

Insert the DVD into your computer's DVD drive. Ensure the labeled side of the DVD is facing up.
- If your computer automatically launches VLC, the DVD will start playing.

Open VLC. There is a shortcut on the desktop; if not, type "vlc" into the Start search bar and click on the VLC icon.

Click on Media. This tab is located at the top-left corner of the VLC window. A dropdown menu will appear.

Click on Open Disc. This option is near the top of the Media dropdown menu. A separate window will appear, allowing you to configure the DVD settings as desired.

Click the Play button at the bottom of the window. After a brief moment, the DVD will start playing.
- If your DVD has a title screen like most DVDs, you will need to select an option (such as Play or Scene Select).
Tips
- Windows Media Player no longer supports DVD playback.
- If you prefer not to use VLC, there are several other media players available online, such as RealPlayer and DivX.
Warning
- Avoid using the Windows DVD Player application as it costs $14.99 (approximately 330,000 VND) to download and only works with certain types of DVDs.
