Everyone needs to wash their face, but as a teen, your skin may go through various changes, and your concern about your appearance can be more intense compared to being a child or adult. Healthy skin starts with cleanliness, so choose gentle products and avoid scrubbing too hard—doing this right will help keep your skin in great condition.
Process

Gather your skincare essentials. Have a cleanser, toner, moisturizer, and a fresh towel ready. If you prefer, you can use a mild facial soap instead of a specialized cleanser, and skip the toner or use whatever your doctor or dermatologist recommends. Face cloths or flannels are also great for washing your face, and cotton pads work well too.

Rinse your face with warm water a few times, but avoid boiling hot water. This will help open your pores, allowing your cleansing product to work more effectively on your skin.

Apply your cleanser or soap as instructed. Gently spread the mild facial soap or cleanser all over your face, carefully avoiding the sensitive eye area. If you're wearing eye makeup, use an eye makeup remover to clean it off. For those who don't wear makeup around the eyes, use a damp cotton pad or the corner of a face cloth with warm water to clean the area.

Thoroughly rinse off all cleanser or soap residue. Leaving any soap on your skin can cause irritation and other skin issues. Always rinse it off thoroughly, unless otherwise directed.

Finish by rinsing with cold water if you prefer. Cold water helps tighten your pores and reduces the risk of dirt, makeup, and bacteria getting trapped inside, preventing the formation of blackheads.

Gently pat your face dry with a clean, soft towel. Avoid rubbing or using rough towels, as this can irritate your skin. After drying, you may apply toner if you'd like.

If you have a face cream, apply it to keep your skin moisturized. Opt for one that contains sun protection if you want to shield your skin from harmful UV rays.

Give new products time to work. When you purchase a new soap or cleanser to address a specific skin issue, don't expect instant results. It usually takes about six weeks for a product to show its effects, unless it causes an adverse reaction like a rash or itching immediately after use.

If possible, keep products for different skin conditions on hand. Using a moisturizer for dry skin when your skin is oily isn't ideal, and vice versa. If you can, try to have products for combination or normal skin available for when you need them.
