Find out how to activate or turn off Clips on Discord
Discord Clips work a lot like Twitch clips—capture hilarious or memorable moments from your stream as standalone videos. Currently, Clips are only supported on Windows PCs; Mac and mobile users will have to wait. Follow these steps to start clipping on your Windows setup.
How to Turn On and Use Clips on Discord
To start using Clips, you'll need a Discord Nitro subscription. Open User Settings, go to Clips, and switch on Enable clipping. When streaming, press ALT + C to capture a moment instantly.

Making Clips
Turn On Clips. If you’re using high-end hardware, this might be on by default. A Discord Nitro subscription is required to access this feature.
- To activate it:
- Click the gear icon.
- Select User Settings.
- Toggle Enable clipping to ON.
- To stop your voice from being recorded in others’ clips:
- Click the gear icon.
- Go to Clips.
- Switch OFF Allow my voice to be recorded in Clips.
Go Live with a Stream. Clips can only be captured while streaming, so start sharing your game or app in a server.
Use Alt+C to save a clip. This shortcut triggers a clip during your stream. With Game Overlay on, you’ll get a visual confirmation.
- You can also hit the clapboard-shaped clip icon next to your game title in Discord.
Clip Editing and Sharing
Open a server or direct message. You'll need to access the send menu to begin editing your clip.
Tap +. You'll find this icon on the left side of the message box.
Select Share a Clip. This should be the second option. If it doesn’t appear, you may not have any clips ready to send.
Move your cursor over the clip and hit the Edit icon. The icon looks like a dotted-line rectangle.
Adjust the timeline to trim your clip. Only content between the sliders will be kept.
- Switch off Stream Audio to mute game or app sounds.
- Switch off Participants Audio to mute other users in your stream.
Hit Share Clip. You'll find this in the lower-right corner. Your clip will be posted in the chat or server.
- To save the clip without sharing, click the checkmark icon instead.
Removing Clips
Go to a server or direct message. You'll need to access the send menu to delete a clip.
Select +. This icon is located to the left of the message box.
Click Share a Clip. It’s the second option. If it’s missing, you don’t currently have clips to remove.
Hover your cursor over the clip you'd like to remove. Additional options will appear on screen.
Select the trashcan icon. A confirmation window will pop up.
Click Delete Clip. This action permanently deletes the clip from both the Clips library and your device.
Adjusting Clip Settings
Tap the gear icon. You’ll find it in the bottom-left of the Discord window.
Select Clips. You'll find it on the left sidebar.
Update the Clipping Keybind. The default combo is ALT + C. To customize it, click the keyboard icon next to the shortcut and enter your preferred keybind.
Adjust the clip duration. Standard clips are set to 30 seconds. To change this, use the dropdown to choose 1 Minute or 2 Minutes instead.
Set a new save location. This path varies by device. Click on the current directory and choose a different folder for storing clips.
Understanding Discord Clips
Clips let you capture and save moments from your Discord streams. Think of them like Twitch Clips—short highlights pulled from live broadcasts. This feature is currently exclusive to Discord Nitro subscribers.
