Step-by-step guide to speed up TikTok videos
TikTok, the wildly popular platform for short videos, now allows clips up to 10 minutes long. Some feel too slow to sit through—but you can change that. Whether you're watching or filming, this Mytour tutorial shows you how to set videos to 2x speed in no time.
Instantly Set TikTok to 2x Speed
To speed up a TikTok to 2x, just press and hold the left or right edge of the screen during playback. Look for “Speed: 2x” at the bottom. Let go to go back to normal speed.
How-To Steps

Select a video you'd like to fast-forward. TikTok now lets you skip ahead in videos—perfect for long story times or extended clips (excluding sponsored ads). Search for a video you want to speed through.
- Any non-sponsored TikTok can be fast-forwarded.
- This feature is rolling out gradually, so it may not be on every account yet.

Press and hold either side of the screen. While the video plays, holding the left or right edge will trigger 2x playback. “Speed: 2x” appears at the bottom to confirm.
- You can also jump through a video using the playback bar if available.

Lift your finger to return to normal speed. The video plays faster as long as you're pressing the screen's edge. Once you release, it switches back to regular speed.
Record in 2x Speed Mode

Tap + to start a new TikTok. Besides speeding up playback, you can also film at 2x speed. It’s great for skipping dull parts or adding a fun twist. Tap the plus icon at the center bottom of your screen to begin.

Pick a sound for your video (optional). Want to add music? Tap Add sound at the top, then choose from the list or search using the magnifying glass icon.
- When filming at 2x speed, the audio will play back at half speed while recording.

Choose your video length. Above the red record button, tap a time option: 15s, 60s, or 10m.
- You don’t have to use the full time—just select the max you think you'll need.

Tap the speed icon. Look for the speedometer symbol on the right menu—it displays your current speed setting, usually set to 1x by default.

Tap 2x. In the fly-out menu after tapping the speed icon, choose 2x.
- You can also pick 3x for even faster, or slow it down instead.

Start recording your video. Hit the red record button to begin and tap again to stop. Or, press and hold to record and release to stop. When done, tap the checkmark.
- You can also use the timer—tap it on the right menu, pick 3s or 10s, then tap Start countdown.
- If a sound is selected, use the bottom slider to set when the video stops recording.

Share your 2x speed video. After recording, tap Next at the bottom, add a caption, and use relevant hashtags. Then hit Post to upload your video—it’ll play at double speed for viewers.
