101999.

Known simply as '1999,' this terrifying and haunting urban legend is one of the most realistic and disturbing tales on the Internet. The story follows a Canadian blogger named Elliot, who becomes obsessed with the meaning behind a strange TV channel he watched back in 1999. At the time, it seemed suspicious, and in retrospect, Elliot realized it was probably run by a local predator. As he delves deeper, he uncovers the chilling truth: the man behind the channel was attempting to lure children into his home for sacrificial rituals. To make matters worse, Elliot discovers that the man was torturing and killing children while dressed in a bear costume, calling himself 'Mr. Bear.'
This eerie channel only aired a handful of 'shows,' most likely due to its limited broadcasting hours from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The first show, titled Booby, featured live-action hands placed on top of a table—an obviously low-budget production. The main character, Booby, was a hand that found itself in a different bizarre situation each episode. However, as the episodes went on, they grew increasingly strange.
In one particularly disturbing episode called 'Playing with Scissors,' Booby could be seen holding a pair of scissors while another, smaller hand was violently jerking in the background, as though being forcefully held up. Booby then proceeded to stab the smaller hand repeatedly with the scissors, as a muffled child’s scream echoed. The scissors finally reached the bone, producing a horrifying crunch. That was the last time Elliot ever watched an episode of Booby.
The next twisted show on the schedule was Mr. Bear’s Cellar, featuring the mentally disturbed man dressed as Mr. Bear. The events of these episodes were so graphic and gory that they are too disturbing to describe here. You’ll need to read the rest of the story to understand the horrors that unfolded. Eventually, the authorities intervened and shut down this sadistic TV channel for good.

9. Candle Cove

This story begins with a forum thread discussing an old children's TV show from the 1970s, centered around a little girl who imagined herself to be friends with pirates. The show sparked controversy due to one particular episode where every character spent the entire time screaming. They simply stood in place, screaming, while the girl moaned and cried, as though she had been enduring this for hours. As commenters shared their memories of the show, it became clear that beneath its seemingly 'cute' and low-budget exterior, there was something much darker and more unsettling.
By the end of the thread, it was suggested that the show was far more sinister than a faded childhood memory. One particularly disturbing memory stood out: the main antagonist, a skeletal figure known as the 'Skin-Taker.' His mouth didn’t open and close like a normal human’s, but instead slid back and forth. One commenter recalled that when the little girl questioned him about his mouth, the Skin-Taker ignored her, looked directly at the camera, and ominously replied, 'To grind your skin.'
One of the commenters, intrigued by the legitimacy of the show, decided to ask his mother if she remembered a children's show from the '70s called Candle Cove. She was genuinely taken aback by his question, revealing that he had once asked her for permission to watch it. Afterward, he would tune the TV to static, watching nothing but dead air for half an hour.
8. The Rake

In 2003, a strange incident occurred in the northeastern United States involving a bizarre, human-like creature that quickly captured the attention of local media. After the initial report, most of the related online and printed records were mysteriously erased. Despite this, sightings of the creature only grew more frequent. What's particularly strange is that people's reactions to the creature varied widely, ranging from intense fear to an almost childlike curiosity.
The sightings didn’t stop, prompting a deeper investigation into the creature. In 2006, a group of researchers made a chilling breakthrough. They discovered nearly two dozen historical documents, spanning from the 12th century to the present, all describing encounters with a creature known as 'the Rake.' The most notable account was from the year of the discovery, and here’s a brief summary of the story:
A woman woke up in the dead of night, inadvertently disturbing her husband. As he turned to look at her, he gasped and immediately grabbed her in fear. At the foot of their bed, sitting with its back turned, was the dreaded creature described as a large, hairless dog-like figure.
As the couple’s eyes adjusted to the dark, the creature suddenly lunged forward, crouching within inches of the husband's face. It stared at him for a moment before darting toward the children’s rooms. The terrified couple raced after it, fearing for their children's safety. They reached their daughter's room only to find her mutilated and near death. As she lay dying, her final words were, 'He is the Rake.' Then, as mysteriously as it had appeared, the Rake vanished, never to be seen again.
7. Where Bad Kids Go

This creepypasta tells the tale of a photographer who became obsessed with uncovering more details about an old children's show he remembered watching as a child during wartime Lebanon. From his recollections, the half-hour show used very graphic and unsettling images, along with scare tactics, to warn children about misbehaving. He believes the show was a tool used by the media to instill fear and discipline, with every episode teaching a harsh lesson, like 'bad kids stay up too late' or 'bad kids sneak food from the fridge at night.'
However, the most vivid memory the photographer had was the closing scene of each episode. It was always the same: the camera would slowly zoom in on an old, rusted iron door, and as the camera drew closer, the screams of children could be heard. As the door loomed larger, the screams grew louder and clearer. When the noise reached its peak, Arabic text reading 'That’s where bad kids go' would appear, marking the episode’s end.
In a twist of fate, the photographer eventually tracked down the studio where the show had been filmed. Despite the building looking abandoned for years, the infamous rusted door from his childhood was still standing. As he ventured beyond it, he found a small room smeared with blood, feces, and bones. The most terrifying sight, however, was a caged microphone hanging in the center of the room.
6. The Keyhole

This tale revolves around a man who checked into a hotel for a few nights. Upon receiving his room key, the woman at the front desk cautioned him about a door with no number on the way to his room. She explained that this locked room was used for storage and warned him to avoid it—he should not enter or even peek inside. Intrigued but obedient, the man went straight to his room without further questioning.
By the second night, curiosity began to consume him. He tried the door handle, but it was locked, just as the woman had said. Undeterred, he leaned in and peered through the keyhole. On the other side, he saw what appeared to be another ordinary hotel room, identical to his own. But in the far corner stood a very pale woman, her head resting against the wall opposite the door. Bewildered, the man stepped back and returned to his room.
On the third day, the man, still obsessed, peered through the keyhole once again. This time, all he saw was an overwhelming and unrelenting shade of red. Nothing else. Perhaps the woman had suspected someone was spying on her and had blocked the view. He decided to ask the woman at the front desk about it. She sighed deeply, asking if he had looked through the keyhole. Upon his confirmation, she told him the whole chilling tale. Many years ago, she said, a man had murdered his wife in that very room. Now, her ghost haunts the place. Her spirit is eerily pale, save for her eyes, which are a bloodshot red.
5. The Angel Statue

The story begins with a couple who planned a night out and called their regular babysitter to watch the children. When she arrived, the kids were already asleep, so she decided to kill time by watching TV. The only TV with cable was in the parents' bedroom, so she called to ask if it was okay to watch there.
The parents gave their approval, but then the babysitter asked if she could cover up the angel statue in the room, as it made her uneasy. The father hesitated for a moment before instructing her to take the children out of the house immediately and call the police—because they did not own an angel statue.
When the police arrived, they found the babysitter and children dead in a pool of blood, and the angel statue was nowhere to be found.

4. The Grifter

"The Grifter" is a chilling online urban legend first shared in 2009. It revolves around a video clip so disturbing that anyone who watches it is left traumatized. The clip allegedly contains scenes of dying children, unbearable screams, and graphic close-ups of exorcisms and dead bodies.
Although something like the Grifter would indeed be horrifying to watch, thankfully it’s entirely a work of fiction. The person who started the legend admitted in 2009 that the so-called “screenshots” of the video were actually taken from the movie Little Otik. While most people are now aware that it’s a hoax, it remains a chilling story to share around a campfire. Some have even gone as far as recreating the video themselves, attempting to pass it off as the real thing.
3. Normal Porn For Normal People

This urban legend begins with a typical chain letter urging recipients to visit the website "normalpornfornormalpeople.com", for the “good of mankind.” Naturally, the intriguing URL drew many curious visitors. The site appeared simple enough, with a wall of text on the main page. What stood out, however, was the tagline: "Normal Porn for Normal People, A Website Dedicated To The Eradication of Abnormal Sexuality." Aside from that, there was nothing particularly compelling. Most visitors quickly left after seeing the monotonous content. However, those who stayed discovered that many of the words on the page were actually download links to disturbing videos. Shocked visitors would then congregate on forums to share their experiences and the videos themselves.
One of the more innocuous videos was titled "peanut.avi," which depicted a man, a woman, and a dog in a kitchen. The woman prepares a peanut butter sandwich, which the man then gives to the dog. This mundane scene continued for a full half hour. But then the videos began to take a darker turn, with one of the most unsettling being "jimbo.avi." In this video, an overweight mime performs for five minutes—lighthearted mime antics at first, but in the final 30 seconds, the man is shown quietly sobbing, still in his mime costume and makeup.
“Stumps.avi” is a five-minute video of a man with no legs attempting to break dance in a kitchen, much like the setting in “peanut.avi,” but in a much dirtier environment. The man collapses from exhaustion and pleads with someone off-screen to let him rest. The unseen person becomes furious and demands that he keep dancing, which he does. The video ends abruptly, with the off-screen person heard screaming.
The video “privacy.avi” begins with a woman masturbating on a mattress while the man with no legs from “stumps.avi” walks around on his hands, wearing a goblin mask. What’s unusual about this video is that the door is left open, unlike in the others where it remains closed. This detail becomes significant near the end of the video when an animal can be seen swiftly running down the hallway.
Finally, “useless.avi” is 18 minutes of pure horror. A blonde woman is tied down with her mouth taped shut. After seven minutes, a man in a suit opens the door but doesn’t enter. Instead, the animal seen briefly in “privacy.avi” enters the room. It’s revealed to be a severely abused chimpanzee, its fur shaved and painted red. The man closes the door behind him, leaving the woman alone with the animal. The emaciated chimpanzee sniffs the air, notices the woman, and immediately begins to maul her. The assault continues for a torturous seven minutes, ending in her death. The video concludes with the chimpanzee devouring the corpse.
2. Jeff The Killer

Jeff was a young boy who had just moved to a new house. On the day he arrived, he was invited to a neighbor’s birthday party, and decided to bring his brother Liu along. While they waited at a bus stop, three teenagers attacked them. Jeff was able to defend himself, leaving his attackers on the street with broken wrists and knife wounds. After this incident, Jeff realized that he had a deep satisfaction in causing others pain. A feeling he had always suppressed, but which intensified whenever he was provoked or enraged.
One night, soon after, Jeff’s mother was awakened by cries coming from the bathroom. Upon entering, she found Jeff carving a permanent smile into his cheeks. He had also removed his eyelids, ensuring that he could never sleep again. Horrified by her son’s madness, she rushed out to wake up her husband. She froze when she saw Jeff standing in the doorway, a knife gripped in his hand. “Mummy, you lied,” was the last thing they ever heard from him.
With his parents gone, only his brother remained. Liu had been roused by strange sounds from his parents' room. When the noise stopped, he tried to drift back to sleep, but a chilling sense of being watched crept over him. Before he could react, a hand clamped over his mouth, and a warm blade drove into his stomach. Liu struggled, but it was already too late. “Shhhhhhh,” Jeff whispered. “Just go to sleep.” After that, Jeff vanished, and although he was never seen again, the legend persists—Jeff is still out there, waiting.
1. SCP Foundation

The “Secure, Contain, and Protect Foundation” (often abbreviated as SCP Foundation) is a fictional organization with a shadowy history that first emerged in 2007. The SCP Foundation is composed of numerous doctors, researchers, and agents dedicated to studying and cataloging anomalous creatures and objects known simply as “SCPs.” The foundation works relentlessly to keep these entities from falling into the wrong hands or being exposed to the outside world. To further their research, the foundation often conducts experiments on death row inmates.
SCP-173 is the entity that kicked off the entire mythos. It’s depicted as a statue-like being with a bloody face and short limbs. According to reports, it cannot move while under direct observation, but once eye contact is broken, it will swiftly kill its victim by snapping their neck. This makes it imperative that the creature is constantly watched.
Another infamous entity is SCP-682, a nearly indestructible and highly adaptable reptilian creature. It has become one of the most well-known entities in the SCP database.
