10. Pet Pig Rescues Veteran Owner from Apartment Blaze
It's no surprise that pigs are among the most heroic creatures on Earth; their cuteness is matched only by their bravery. And when you're a pig with a veteran owner, that sense of duty is even stronger. That's exactly what happened with this remarkable pig who saved his owner from an apartment fire.
In April 2022, a 500-pound (226-kilogram) pet pig named Hamilton helped his owner, 30-year-old Gilbert Anaya, escape a fire at their New Jersey home. Hamilton aided Anaya by closing the garage door, slowing the fire's spread while the pig escaped the burning building. Anaya, who had been asleep upstairs, woke to smoke and went to check on Hamilton, only to find he had already fled the fiery garage. He was calmly grazing in the yard.
The fire department later informed Anaya that Hamilton closing the garage door bought him an extra 15 to 20 minutes to escape, ultimately saving his life. Anaya also revealed that Hamilton, his pet for over six years, was trained to close doors and had instinctively done so as he fled with his owner.
Fortunately, neither Anaya nor Hamilton suffered injuries in the fire. However, their apartment complex was destroyed, and the two are currently staying with one of Anaya's friends.
9. Pigs vs. Geese: Tactical Swine Unit Defends Schiphol Airport from Geese
While it's widely known that pigs are intelligent, not many people are aware that they also serve as elite soldiers. At Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, a unique team of pigs is specifically trained to protect the airport from geese. These pigs undergo intense training to learn how to patrol and catch the birds, which can pose a significant danger if they get too close to aircraft or personnel.
Schiphol Airport's management asserts that geese present a major threat to aviation safety. Due to their large size, tendency to travel in flocks, and potential to cause substantial damage to aircraft even with just one goose involved, the risk is significant. The problem stems from geese often getting disoriented during migration, leading them into perilous situations where they require intervention from humans or trained animals.
Schiphol Airport has experimented with several technological solutions to deter geese, such as using green lasers. However, it turned out that the specially trained pigs proved to be the most effective method in keeping the birds at bay.
Wenchuan's Heroic Pig That Endured an Earthquake
This is the story of a pig that became a hero after surviving one of the most devastating earthquakes in history. The Sichuan earthquake that struck China's southwestern region on May 12, 2008, remains one of the deadliest natural disasters ever, claiming over 80,000 lives and leaving around a million people homeless.
Amid the overwhelming chaos and destruction, one unexpected hero emerged during this tragic event.
Zhu Jianqiang, also known as 'Strong Pig' for his incredible determination to survive, was one of the few survivors in an area that had been devastated by the earthquake. He managed to stay alive under the rubble for 36 days, subsisting on water and coal, and losing a dramatic amount of weight from 331 pounds (150 kilograms) to just 110 pounds (50 kilograms).
The earthquake catapulted Zhu Jianqiang to fame, and the privately run museum dedicated to his remarkable survival story adopted him as a living emblem of China's strength and resilience in the wake of the Sichuan earthquake.
7. The Heroic Pig That Stopped a Home Invasion

On July 31, 2018, a woman and her four children came dangerously close to falling victim to a home invasion. However, unlike two of their neighbors who lost everything when the burglars successfully broke into their homes, this family was fortunate enough to be saved by their brave rescue pig, Dumplin, who frightened away the intruders attempting to break into their home.
The woman and her children had recently adopted Dumplin from a shelter, and he had been part of their family ever since. Perhaps scaring off the burglars was Dumplin's way of thanking them for rescuing him from the shelter.
6. Lulu the Pig Saves Her Owner
In medical emergencies, you would expect someone with at least basic knowledge to assist you, but what if you're by yourself and your pot-bellied pig is the only companion you have? In this story, we look at how Lulu, a pig, saved her owner from what could have been a fatal situation.
Jo Ann Altsman was alone when she suffered a heart attack—her husband was out fishing. Her only company was her pet pig, Lulu. When Jo Ann started experiencing chest pains, she called for help, but no one was nearby. She feared this heart attack might be fatal.
Lulu rushed to the rescue, running through the door flap and hurdling over the front-yard fence, sustaining injuries along the way. She eventually reached the road and collapsed, hoping for someone to notice her. After a few cars passed by the still pig, a driver finally stopped. Upon seeing Lulu's condition, he quickly called for help, prompting Jo Ann to return the call. The man swiftly contacted paramedics, ensuring that Jo Ann received the aid she needed. All of this was made possible by Lulu's brave actions.
5. A Pet Pig Saves a Woman from an Apartment Fire
In a world where pets are often treated as family, it's no surprise that some would go to extreme lengths to protect their beloved companions. One woman did just that when her pet pig became her savior during a life-threatening fire.
Courtney Goff, a Tulsa resident, faced a devastating fire on a Saturday morning that destroyed everything she owned. However, her pet pig, Theo, woke her up upon noticing the flames. Goff initially thought Theo was simply craving his midnight snack, but when she saw the fire, she acted quickly to warn her father and friend. Unfortunately, she had to leave Theo behind.
As Goff tried to go back for Theo, the blaze was already overwhelming, and firefighters forced her to retreat. She pleaded with them to save Theo, but the danger was too great. Undeterred by her own safety, Goff dashed back into the inferno to find Theo herself, but once again, the firefighters pulled her out.
Eventually, Theo's lifeless body was discovered among the charred remains of the house. Goff plans to honor her heroic pig by having him cremated and holding a memorial to celebrate the pig who saved her life.
4. A Pig's Heroic Act Saves a Family from a Fire
It’s not every day you hear about a pig coming to the rescue, but it does happen, and it’s certainly heartwarming. Lucky is one such pig, a true hero who saved Ina Farler and her two grandchildren when a fire broke out in their mobile home early one Sunday morning.
Although Lucky typically roused the family every morning, Farler grew worried when she heard his distressed squeals at 4:40 am. Upon waking up, she discovered the room filled with smoke. It was then that she realized the trailer was engulfed in flames.
Thanks to Lucky's quick thinking and the help of a nearby neighbor, Farler managed to escape with her two grandchildren just in time, before the trailer was reduced to ashes. The firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze that consumed everything inside, but thankfully, everyone survived. Even the family's cherished pig remained unharmed.
3. Heroic Pig Defends Against Robbers
Pigs may appear to be adorable and gentle animals, but don’t let their innocent looks deceive you! These creatures are also capable of fierce defense, ready to protect their loved ones at any cost, and Arnold is the perfect example of such bravery.
Weighing in at 300 pounds, Arnold the pet pig became a local hero in his Minneapolis neighborhood after saving his owner one February when two men threatened her in her garage.
Moyer recounted that she had left the side door open when she suddenly felt what seemed like a gun pressed against her back. As she entered the kitchen, where Arnold was resting on the floor, she screamed for help. At that moment, Arnold leaped into action, turning around and biting one of the men right in his calf. The man screamed and fled the scene with his companion. Meanwhile, Moyer's other pet, Axel, a Vietnamese potbelly pig, remained hiding under a chair throughout the ordeal.
Although no arrests have been made in connection to the incident, Arnold’s brave actions earned him an award from the Minneapolis Police Department. His newfound fame as a neighborhood hero has also helped make Moyer a well-known figure in Stevens Square, an area plagued by crime, where she resides.
2. Norm McDonald’s Story of the Heroic Pig of a Canadian Farmer
Norm McDonald, the Canadian comedian with an abundance of humorous stories, shares one especially memorable tale from his hometown of Monkland. He recalls visiting an old neighbor, a farmer, who was showing him his pigs. It was during this visit that Norm noticed one of the pigs had a wooden peg for a leg.
Curious, Norm asked the farmer what had happened, and the farmer shared an amazing story. When their house caught fire, the pig broke free from its pen and ran into the burning building to wake up the family. Thanks to the pig’s courage, the family was able to escape the flames unharmed.
The farmer continued with another incredible story about his son, who had fallen into a well. Once again, it was the same pig who came to the rescue by pulling on the rope until the boy was able to climb back out. While Monkland, Norm's hometown, is full of entertaining tales, the story of the heroic pig with the wooden leg is truly the best.
1. Pig Saves His Friend from the Butcher's Knife
Butchering pigs is always a somber occasion, but one pig in Banan District, Chongqing, China, decided he was done with being passive. This brave pig took action to rescue his friend from the butcher’s knife, and the whole rescue was caught on camera.
In the short video, the pig charged at the men who were restraining another pig for slaughter. The men, shocked by the sudden attack, quickly released their hold and retreated from the furious pig. But the pig wasn’t finished—it turned and charged at the man wielding the butcher’s knife, effectively keeping him away from the other pig.
While it's unclear what happened after the video ended, the pig's brave effort to save its friend, though brief, was enough to make the video go viral for a while. It serves as a reminder that even pigs can display heroic actions in an attempt to protect their loved ones.
