Have you ever been browsing online and stumbled upon a piece of information or a story that lingers in your mind for days? For example, were you aware that, on average, a person will unknowingly pass by at least 36 murderers during their lifetime?

They often claim that technology is the future. Predictions suggest that 5G will not only save lives but also boost global economies, while advancements in medical diagnostics could significantly reduce cancer-related fatalities. Then there’s the rise of robots—some simplistic in design, while others are eerily human-like, with only their vacant stares betraying their artificial nature.
In 2011, a PBS journalist conducted an 'interview' with a humanoid robot designed to resemble Philip K Dick. The journalist posed a question that many dread: 'Will robots eventually dominate the world?'
The robot's response likely left the journalist unsettled for years. In a flat, emotionless tone, it replied, 'No need to fear. Even if I transform into a Terminator-like entity, I’ll ensure your safety and comfort in my human zoo, where I can observe you for nostalgic purposes.'
For context, the robot draws its responses from Philip K Dick’s literary works. However, this did little to ease the journalist’s discomfort, as the eerie reply clearly caught them off guard.
9. The Overwhelming Sense of Impending Doom

The sensation that something catastrophic is about to occur is often described as a sense of impending doom. Medical professionals treat this symptom seriously, as it can be linked to mental health conditions like bipolar disorder or physical emergencies such as heart attacks, aneurysms, or seizures.
Additionally, and quite alarmingly, a sudden sense of impending doom can occur during a blood transfusion, often indicating that you’re receiving incompatible blood. This alone can trigger a cascade of severe complications.
For some individuals, the feeling of 'impending doom' isn’t just a vague unease. Many report sensations of being watched or catching glimpses of shadowy figures in their peripheral vision. Occasionally, these experiences have a logical explanation. For instance, in 2005, a woman was discovered hyperventilating and in a state of delirium after claiming to see a ghost in her bathroom while showering. Paramedics later determined that a malfunctioning gas water heater had been filling her home with carbon monoxide.
8. The Horrors of History

Aztec history is both captivating and chilling. Their priests would ritually cut open the chests of victims, offering their still-beating hearts to the gods. Once the ritual was complete, the bodies were discarded down the steps of the Templo Mayor. Evidence also suggests that the Aztecs engaged in ritual cannibalism. It’s estimated that they sacrificed up to 20,000 people annually to appease the gods and prevent the world’s destruction.
Even more disturbing is the fact that while the Aztecs typically sacrificed prisoners, they also offered their own children. Believing that the gods required children’s tears to create rain, they would torture their own offspring and others before killing them, ensuring they collected as many tears as possible.
7. The Horrors of Warfare

The early 20th century was marked by grim and horrifying wars, with some nations going to extreme lengths to escalate the terror. In 2001, a Tokyo court reviewed a case alleging that the Japanese military had released fleas infected with bubonic plague over a Chinese city in 1940.
A bacteriologist providing testimony confirmed that at least 109 people died during a plague outbreak in Ningbo between November and December 1940. This tragedy occurred after Japanese aircraft dispersed infected fleas and grain over the area.
Even more disturbing, some victims of the bubonic plague reported hearing eerie gurgling sounds emanating from their gangrenous swellings.
6. The Brutality of the Judas Cradle

Throughout history, various torture devices were employed for different purposes. One particularly infamous tool was the Judas Cradle, which gained notoriety in the 16th century. This device consisted of a wooden pyramid, upon which the victim was forced to sit. Their hands and feet were bound, with the feet tied together to intensify the agony whenever the victim attempted to adjust their position.
The sharp tip of the pyramid was gradually forced into the victim’s vagina or anus, leaving them in this excruciating position for hours or even days. In some cases, torturers added weights to the victim’s legs, causing unbearable pain and, at times, hastening death.
And, as if that wasn’t horrifying enough, the device was never cleaned between uses.
5. The Suffering of Infants

Historically, babies also endured immense suffering. Until the 1980s, medical professionals believed that newborns were incapable of feeling pain. As a result, infants undergoing invasive procedures were denied anesthesia or pain relief. Instead, they were administered muscle relaxants to prevent movement during these traumatic interventions.
This misconception stemmed from doctors’ inability to distinguish between the pain responses of fetuses and adults, as well as flawed studies that incorrectly suggested babies did not react to stimuli like pinpricks.
It wasn’t until 1987 that attitudes shifted, largely due to mothers advocating for their infants, insisting that babies could indeed feel pain and deserved anesthesia or pain relief during surgical procedures.
4. Can You Believe It?

Childbirth in the late 18th century was fraught with danger, often becoming life-threatening when complications occurred. Two Scottish physicians decided to address this issue by developing a tool aimed at making the process safer for both mothers and their newborns.
Thus, the chainsaw was born. Yes, the doctors realized that using small saws and knives to create space for breech or large babies was both time-consuming and excruciatingly painful for mothers. To address this, they invented a medical chainsaw to expedite the procedure.
Thankfully (?), it was a compact, knife-sized chainsaw with small teeth, not the terrifying, oversized version often depicted in horror films.
3. A Gruesome Efficiency

The French guillotine became a rapid method of carrying out executions, succeeding the Halifax Gibbet, a cumbersome decapitation device known for its rounded blade.
Following the first public guillotine execution, the crowd expressed disappointment, expecting hours of spectacle but witnessing the event conclude in mere seconds. The Nazis also favored the guillotine, using it to execute over 16,000 individuals by beheading. Shockingly, they even sent bills to the families of those they killed.
It’s reported that after a victim’s head fell into the basket, their eyes and lips would continue to move for several seconds before going still. This occurs because the brain remains active for approximately seven seconds after decapitation.
The most terrifying aspect, however, was when the blade grew dull or the executioner lacked skill. In such cases, the blade would strike multiple times, subjecting the victim to excruciating pain before death finally occurred.
2. An Unusual Hunger

In 2015, mourners in Siberia were forced to hire armed guards to protect themselves and the deceased during a funeral. This drastic measure followed a series of incidents where hungry bears invaded the local cemetery in Komsomolsk-on-Amur, scavenging for food but instead discovering human remains.
The bears broke into multiple graves and devoured some of the corpses. Experts speculated that the bears, facing a shortage of their usual diet of mushrooms and berries, turned to human remains out of desperation.
However, not everyone agreed with this explanation. Some argued that the Russian custom of leaving food at gravesites initially drew the bears to the cemetery. There were even claims that one bear had mastered the skill of opening coffins and passed this knowledge to others, leading to similar incidents years earlier.
1. Believe It or Not, It Happens

If you’ve watched Final Destination, you likely scoffed along with the audience during the infamous escalator scene. However, despite widespread disbelief, there have been numerous real-life cases where people have been tragically pulled into and crushed by escalators.
In 2018, a viral video from Turkey showed a man being dragged into an escalator. Miraculously, he survived with minor injuries after being trapped beneath the steps for an hour.
In 2019, a five-year-old girl’s arm was caught in an escalator when she failed to release the handrail upon reaching the top. She was freed within 10 minutes, sustaining only bruises and swelling.
In 2015, a mother and her son were on an escalator at the AZG Mall in Jingzhou when a metal panel gave way. Her three-year-old son nearly fell into the gap, but she managed to push him toward mall employees at the top before being swallowed by the machinery. Rescuers worked for four hours to free her, but she tragically passed away before they could reach her.
