10. Sha’Kyra Aughtry: The Hero of the Blizzard

On Christmas Eve 2022, 35-year-old Sha'Kyra Aughtry, an environmental services manager from Buffalo, New York, found herself battling depression in the early hours of the morning. A deadly blizzard had struck, leaving her unable to collect her three sons—aged 5, 6, and 13—from their cousin’s home, meaning they wouldn't be spending Christmas together. Little did Aughtry know that despite her own sadness, she would become a symbol of hope and play a key role in a stranger’s Christmas miracle, marking this holiday as unforgettable.
Around 6:00 am, Aughtry was stirred by the storm, and shortly after, she heard someone calling for help. Looking out her window, she spotted a man struggling in the snow, without gloves, amidst 53 mph (85 kph) winds and temperatures as low as 4°F (-15°C).
It was later revealed that the man, 64-year-old Joey White, who has Asperger’s Syndrome and the mental capacity of a 10-year-old, lived just a few blocks away in a group home. White had spent 40 years working as a custodian at the North Park Theatre, and although it was his day off, his employer, Ray Barker, speculated that White might have thought he still needed to go to work. This likely prompted White to venture out in the dangerous weather, only to be overwhelmed by the storm, causing him to fall and become immobilized.
Aughtry’s boyfriend, 33-year-old Trent Alls Jr., carried White inside, and Aughtry quickly FaceTimed her cousin, a nurse, for advice on how to treat White’s frostbite. Sadly, the blizzard had left White in a dire state—his pants frozen, his shoes stuck to his body, and his hand frozen into an ice ball from gripping a bag. Despite her efforts, Aughtry knew that White needed urgent medical care.
Aughtry called 911, but the thick snow and storm conditions made it impossible for first responders to reach them. Thankfully, White was able to provide Aughtry with his sister Yvonne’s phone number, and they kept trying to contact 911 and the National Guard for assistance. Aughtry was placed on a list, but unfortunately, no help arrived.
Once the storm finally subsided, Aughtry’s family managed to bring her children to a location where her boyfriend could carry them through the deep snow back home. However, instead of celebrating Christmas the usual way, Aughtry spent her holiday doing White’s laundry, watching movies with him, and making him pancakes for breakfast, followed by pot roast and carrots for dinner.
White underwent multiple surgeries in an attempt to save his fingers, but after enduring fourth-degree frostbite, he tragically lost nine fingers and half a thumb. Despite this loss, one thing remained clear—without Aughtry’s selfless and courageous actions, White would not have survived.
9. Tracy Dean: The Hair Fairy for Children

In 2015, eleven-year-old Isabella Pieri from American Fork, Utah, lost her mother to a rare brain illness. Her father, 47-year-old Phillip Pieri, found himself responsible for raising Isabella and her older brother, while also working long hours at a local convenience store.
Though Phillip did his best to care for the children, there was one thing he struggled with—styling Isabella’s hair. At one point, he even gave her a crew cut, which Isabella was not at all pleased with.
As Isabella’s hair grew back, managing and styling it remained a challenge. Fortunately, her bus driver, 47-year-old Tracy Dean, a mother of four and grandmother of six, noticed that Isabella needed assistance. At first, she was unsure how to help without hurting Isabella’s feelings.
Dean had previously been helping one of Isabella’s classmates with braiding her hair. Eventually, Isabella herself approached Dean about doing her hair as well. Dean was not only relieved but excited to help. She now makes it a point to arrive early enough at school to style Isabella’s (and another little girl’s) hair. In addition to braiding, Dean is teaching Isabella how to brush, detangle, and even style her hair independently.
Phillip expressed his immense gratitude for Dean’s kindness and the newfound confidence he witnessed in his daughter. As for Isabella, she declared that she and Dean are “best friends forever and ever.”
8. Holle Prigmore: Rescues Dog from Imminent Danger

Holle Prigmore, who has been delivering mail for the United States Postal Service since February 2022, looks forward to the dogs she encounters on her route. Her motto is, “Not every dog likes me now, but when I’m finished with them, they will.” However, she had no idea just how accurate this saying would turn out to be.
While delivering mail on September 22, 2023, in Buchanan, Georgia, Prigmore’s usual route took an unexpected turn. She was making a delivery to Kelsey and Aaron Proctor's home when she noticed their dog, Ginger, a black beagle mix, limping along the side of the road. Ginger seemed to be in significant pain, so Prigmore went to grab a treat for her. But then, she saw something moving, and a snake struck at Ginger.
By September 23, 2023, the Proctors reported that Ginger was recovering well. On September 27, 2023, Kelsey had the chance to meet Prigmore in person and thank her for her heroic actions. However, Kelsey wasn’t the only one excited to see Prigmore. Before Kelsey could say anything, Ginger leapt up on Prigmore and hopped into her car, eager to be showered with affection.
7. Michael Armus Sr.: Foils Bank Robbery with a Hug

At 69, Michael Armus Sr. is well-known to the tellers at the Bank of the West in Woodland, California. However, on May 22, 2023, around 11 am, Armus was greeted with worried looks from the staff instead of their usual smiles. He had walked into the middle of a bank robbery.
Armus soon noticed a man, later identified as 43-year-old Eduardo Plasencia, whose face was concealed by his shirt. Plasencia handed a note to one of the tellers, claiming he had a gun and was robbing the bank.
While most would hesitate to step in during a robbery, Armus recognized Plasencia as an old neighbor from an apartment complex, as well as a friend of his daughter from many years ago. Armus could hear not only frustration but also a deep sense of sadness in Plasencia's voice. Instead of using force or weapons to stop him, Armus decided to take a different approach—empathy.
Armus went up to Plasencia and asked him what was wrong and if he had a job. Plasencia responded, 'There’s nothing in this town for me. I just want to go to prison.' Armus then attempted to comfort him, suggesting they step outside. Once they were outside the bank, Armus embraced Plasencia, who broke down in tears. At that moment, the Woodland police arrived on the scene.
Plasencia, who had falsely claimed to be armed, was arrested for attempted robbery. In a statement, the police thanked Armus, acknowledging that he 'delivered the right message that made a difference.'
6. Boynton Beach Good Samaritans: Coming Together to Save a Life

On May 5, 2022, 63-year-old Laurie Rabyor began to feel ill while working as a seamstress at the Shading Source in Boynton Beach, Florida. After leaving work, Rabyor experienced a medical emergency and lost consciousness, causing her car to veer into the intersection of Congress Avenue and Woolbright Road.
Thankfully, Rabyor’s colleague, Janette Rivera, was driving nearby and quickly noticed something was wrong. Without a second thought, Rivera ran into the intersection, putting her own safety at risk, but she couldn’t stop the car on her own. She began waving at other drivers, signaling that something was off. Fortunately, five more good Samaritans exited their vehicles, and together, they managed to stop Rabyor’s car. They then assisted in redirecting traffic.
DaVita Peele, a postal worker with the United States Postal Service, was later recognized as one of the people who helped control traffic. She found a dumbbell in her car and handed it to one of the men, who used it to smash Rabyor’s car window. Once the window was broken, the group pushed the car to a nearby convenience store, where Robin Fox, a nurse at Bethesda Hospital West, got inside, called 911, and provided aid until emergency responders arrived.
Rabyor’s employer later contacted the Boynton Beach Police Department to find the good Samaritans who had helped. Authorities reviewed traffic camera footage and shared it publicly. After posting the video on social media, the police successfully identified several of the heroes. On May 13, 2022, Rabyor had the chance to meet the strangers who had worked together to save her life.
Although Rabyor doesn’t remember the incident, she explained that a combination of high blood pressure medication and fasting for a colonoscopy led to the episode. She expressed her overwhelming gratitude for the generosity she received in her time of need.
In recognition of their heroic actions, the police department awarded the group of good Samaritans with 'Lifesaving Awards.' Additionally, Royal Caribbean generously gifted them a six-to-eight-night Caribbean cruise, along with a $2,000 gift card for each of them.
5. George Condash: Returned $27k Found Next to ATM

On January 21, 2020, George Condash from Westland, Michigan, came across a plastic box left in the middle of the street, near an ATM at the Westland Federal Credit Union.
At first, Condash thought the box was just discarded trash, so he decided to get out of his car and pick it up to avoid others swerving around it. To his shock, upon closer inspection, he discovered that the box wasn’t trash at all—it was an ATM cassette with a tag revealing it contained $40k.
Despite the overwhelming amount of money, Condash didn’t think twice about doing the right thing. He walked straight to the clerk’s counter at the credit union and asked, 'Is there a reward for $40,000?' The employees were left speechless.
It was later revealed that the cash had been accidentally left behind by an armored security guard.
Although the container held $27,000 instead of the $40,000 indicated by the tag, bank manager Alicia Stewart was deeply appreciative of Condash's honesty, as well as for preventing a significant loss for the bank. Stewart awarded Condash a modest, undisclosed reward for his integrity, though Condash expressed that the true reward was simply a clear conscience.
4. Ariel Naylor: Saved Woman from Attempted Kidnapping

Thirty-seven-year-old Zayra Mendoza had recently moved to the United States from Nicaragua. Unfortunately, just five months after her arrival, she found herself in a life-threatening situation that she believed could be her final moments.
On the evening of May 8, 2022, around 8:20 pm, Mendoza was walking along the sidewalk near Middlesex Turnpike in Burlington, Massachusetts, when she noticed a man trailing her. Mendoza tried to escape, but the assailant, 23-year-old Tyler Healey, grabbed her, assaulted her, and dragged her. During the struggle, Mendoza fought back, and they became entangled in a fierce tug-of-war, which resulted in Mendoza’s shirt being ripped off. Tragically, several cars drove by, but none stopped to intervene.
Fortunately, Ariel Naylor, who was driving home from work that evening, witnessed the attack. Without hesitation, she stopped her vehicle to assist. Naylor quickly called 911, and as she slammed on her brakes to halt her SUV, Healey released Mendoza and fled. The police arrived shortly afterward and soon located Mendoza.
Healey evaded capture for two days before being apprehended in Winthrop, Massachusetts, on May 10, 2022. His father identified Healey after spotting his bright sneakers and distinctive tattoo in images released by the police. Healey was charged with assault with intent to rape, attempt to commit a crime, assault with intent to commit a felony, and indecent assault and battery of a person 14 or older.
On May 11, 2022, Mendoza and Naylor reunited for a segment on ABC’s Good Morning America. During the interview, Mendoza shared, “God sent me an angel.”
3. Lou Asci: Aiding a Boy in Recovering His Treasured Necklace

Ten-year-old Connor Datri from Plymouth, Massachusetts, tragically lost his mother, 31-year-old Lynelle Leonard, in a car accident in 2020. Among the few items he has left of her is a heart-shaped locket, engraved with her initials and fingerprints, which contains a small portion of her ashes. Datri only removes it when he showers.
Upon hearing about Datri’s story, 61-year-old Lou Asci, a metal detector enthusiast who offers his services for free, headed to the soccer field to search for the lost locket. Although the school principal initially denied him access during school hours, Asci did not give up and returned the next evening.
After three visits to the field, Asci had found a number of coins, another pendant, and a ring, but not Datri’s locket. Despite this, he refused to give up, saying, “Failure was not an option.” On October 26, 2023, following conversations with both Datri and Moriarty, Asci had a renewed sense of confidence about the possible location of the locket.
That evening, Asci returned to the field with his wife. After two more hours of searching, they finally discovered the missing locket. Asci immediately sent photos of the find to Moriarty, who, along with Datri, hurried to meet him in the parking lot for an emotional reunion.
2. Kenny: Aiding Those Who Can’t Help Themselves

On September 16, 2015, Destiny Carreno visited a McDonald’s in Chicago, Illinois. While waiting in line to order, an elderly man in a wheelchair, positioned ahead of her, wheeled himself up to the counter and attempted to ask the cashier for assistance. Initially, neither Carreno nor the cashier understood his request, but after several attempts, they realized the man was asking for help, saying, “Help me, please.”
Even though it was rush hour in downtown Chicago and the restaurant was crowded, the cashier, known only as Kenny, immediately closed his register. He then went to the back to wash his hands, put on gloves, and returned to sit down with the elderly man, cutting his meal and helping him eat.
Rod Lubeznik, the owner of the McDonald’s where the photo was taken, remarked, “It’s a true testament to who Kenny is and a reminder to all of us that even the smallest act of kindness can leave a lasting impact on many.”
1. Minu Pauline: A Visionary in Fighting Hunger

Minu Pauline, a former banker turned chef at the age of 28, is the proud owner of Pappadavada, a unique ethnic tea shop and restaurant located in Kochi, India. What truly makes this restaurant special is its refrigerator placed outside, filled with uneaten food to ensure the homeless and hungry always have a meal to rely on, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Minu Pauline was motivated to act after witnessing a woman scrounging through trash bags in search of food one evening. On March 23, 2016, she placed a refrigerator—affectionately called 'nanma maram' or 'tree of goodness'—outside the restaurant to help fight both food waste and hunger.
Each day, Pauline’s restaurant provides around 50 food packs, and she encourages her patrons to donate any leftover food to the fridge. Passersby are also invited to contribute by placing unused food in the refrigerator instead of discarding it. Pauline ensures that all food donations are dated and requests customers to label their leftovers with the date and time, ensuring both food quality and safety to prevent illness.
Every evening, the refrigerator serves meals to dozens, offering free food to anyone in need, no questions asked.
