This time, we bring you stories about extraordinary people and animals who refuse to let their challenges hold them back. There's a dog on a solo adventure through Ireland, a stunning discovery beneath the sea, and a rare opportunity to spend an unforgettable evening with the Mona Lisa.
10. Hamish’s Adventurous Journey

Hamish, the adventurous dog, was joyfully reunited with his family after being cared for by Irish Rail staff following his solo train ride across Ireland.
Last Wednesday, commuters traveling from Sallins to Dublin noticed a dog riding alone on the train. Unable to locate his owner, they took him in, and named him Hamish.
The dog spent his time at the office, where various Irish Rail employees took turns looking after him and sharing their packed lunches. Ted Maher, an employee, then took him to My Lovely Horse Rescue, a farm for horses where he volunteers. He also posted on social media in hopes of finding the dog’s family.
A few days later, Maher’s efforts paid off. Hamish, whose real name is Tyson, was joyfully reunited with his family and his sister, Pebbles. He was also microchipped to ensure he could be easily found should he decide to embark on another solo adventure.
9. Traveling in Style

A hospital in Modesto, California, has come up with a creative way to ease the nerves of children preparing for surgery: they drive to the hospital in toy racing cars.
The Doctors Medical Center recently introduced a miniature black Mercedes and pink Volkswagen Beetle so young patients can roll into surgery in style. The aim is to “reduce anxiety and stress, making the experience less frightening for everyone involved.” So far, these charming rides have had a soothing effect not just on the kids, but also on their parents.
The idea for this initiative came from nurse Kimberly Martinez. The hospital bought the Mercedes, while the Beetle was a gift from one of the employees and her family. Both cars feature opening doors, working headlights, dashboard lights, and are equipped with a stereo and MP3 player.
8. The Accidental Car Thief

A Canadian man is on a mission to track down the owner of a car he accidentally took over 20 years ago, in order to offer an apology.
Back in 1998, Kevin Freedman, a teenage lifeguard and swim instructor from Winnipeg, Manitoba, needed to go downtown to pay a parking ticket. Since his own car was being repaired, a colleague lent him her white Ford Taurus—a common car at the time. Freedman found a white Ford Taurus in the parking lot with unlocked doors, climbed in, and eventually got the car started, driving off without realizing his mistake.
After paying the ticket at the police station, Freedman tried to leave but couldn't unlock the car door. A passing police officer, who also drove the same car, helped him. Freedman struggled to start the engine, but assumed it was just his lack of skill. He then drove back to work and parked the car where it had been.
It wasn’t until the next day that Freedman realized he had unintentionally stolen someone else’s Ford Taurus. When the police arrived and found the car in the same spot, without damage or stolen items, they might have assumed it was a joyride. Now, after 21 years, Freedman is trying to find the car's owner to apologize and hear their side of the story.
7. Granite Heart With Unbreakable Spirit

A chicken with only one healthy leg is learning to walk for the first time, thanks to a specially designed wheelchair.
Granite Heart, a bantam chicken born with a tendon disease in one of her legs, could only move by hopping or flying short distances. To make matters worse, she was attacked by a weasel last year. Although she bravely fought off the predator, she sustained serious injuries.
Her story caught the attention of Walkin’ Pets, a New Hampshire-based organization that creates walking aids for pets with disabilities. Although they had never made a device for a chicken before, they decided to give it a try. This led to the creation of the Walkin’ Wheels Chicken Wheelchair. The custom device fits Granite Heart perfectly, allowing her to stand on her own for the first time. Walkin’ Pets plans to continue refining the design to create a version that can help other chickens in the future.
6. Enchantment Beneath the Waves

A stunning video showcasing an optical illusion created by hydrothermal vents at the ocean's depths left even seasoned scientists in awe.
An expedition led by the Schmidt Ocean Institute deployed a robotic submersible named SuBastian to explore the Guaymas Basin in the Gulf of California. Two kilometers (6,560 feet) under the sea, it investigated a 30-meter-high (100 ft) hydrothermal vent called the 'Big Pagoda' and captured an optical illusion created by intense heat.
At first glance, the underside of a rocky ledge, known as a flange, appeared to be a perfectly flat, smooth surface that was so reflective it resembled a mirror. However, with a slight shift in angle, the shimmering surface vanished, revealing a dark, hollow arc covered in glittering minerals.
The disappearing mirror effect may seem like a magic trick, but it's actually a result of the intense heat from the hydrothermal vents. The water in this area can reach up to 366 degrees Celsius (690 °F) without boiling. While most of it rises and mixes with the surrounding ocean water, some fills the concave undersides of the flanges. The extreme temperature difference between the hot liquid and the cooler surrounding water causes light to slow down, creating the illusion of a reflective surface.
Scientists believe the tiny glittering particles in the dark hollow might be minerals such as pyrite or pyrrhotite, although they will need to examine a sample in the lab to confirm.
5. A Meal for Late Fees

This week marked National Library Week in the United States, with this year's theme being 'Libraries=Strong Communities.' Additionally, the annual Food for Fines initiative has returned, allowing library patrons to pay off overdue charges with canned goods, which are then donated to local food banks.
Libraries participating in the program will accept nonperishable, unopened pantry items in place of cash payments for overdue fines. Usually, one item equals $1 in fines waived, and some libraries even accept pet food, which is then donated to animal shelters.
Libraries across the country are taking part in the Food for Fines program. While some only participated during National Library Week, others will continue to accept food donations until the end of the month.
4. A Night at the Louvre

The Louvre is offering art enthusiasts a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity: an overnight stay inside the world-famous museum.
As one of the most visited museums globally, the Louvre attracts millions of tourists every year. While many head straight for the Mona Lisa and quickly depart, the crowds and long lines often turn the experience into more of a challenge than a joy.
However, one lucky competition winner and their chosen guest will have a completely different experience. They will be flown to Paris for an exclusive slumber party inside the museum. The evening starts with a private tour followed by a 'cozy Renaissance-inspired aperitif' at a lounge set up in front of the Mona Lisa. Dinner will be served near the Venus de Milo, and the night will conclude with an intimate acoustic concert in the living quarters of Napoleon III. For bedtime, the lucky visitors will sleep inside a miniature glass pyramid, echoing the iconic one outside the Louvre.
The contest was organized by Airbnb. To enter, participants must submit an 800-character answer to the question, 'Why would you be the Mona Lisa’s perfect guest?'
3. Roman's Incredible Journey

A two-year-old boy from Kansas with spina bifida has overcome tremendous challenges and now walks—and even runs—without the aid of crutches.
Roman Dinkel first won the hearts of people online in August 2018, when a video showing him using crutches to walk for the first time went viral. He was gleefully showing off in front of his family dog, Maggie. Since then, Roman has put in relentless effort in his training and has reached the point where he can walk unassisted and even sprint.
2. The Green Adventures of Trash Girl

On Friday, a teenager previously taunted as 'Trash Girl' was honored with the prestigious Points of Light Award by British Prime Minister Theresa May for her environmental cleanup efforts in Norfolk.
Nadia Sparkes first gained attention in 2017 when she would leave for school an hour early to collect litter along the way and repeat the process on her return trip home. Over time, she collected over 1,100 liters (290 gallons) of trash. Despite being mocked at school and branded 'Trash Girl,' Nadia remained undeterred in her mission.
Rather than letting the bullies get to her, Nadia took pride in her nickname, feeling 'like a superhero.' Many others agreed, and soon after, she was featured in local media, including the Eastern Daily Press. Nadia's new persona as Trash Girl was also immortalized in a portrait by mud artist Ruddy Muddy and in a cartoon by Creative Nation. Her tireless environmental efforts culminated in recognition from the British government when she received the Points of Light Award for 'saving the planet.'
1. Shoplifter Given a Second Chance

A convenience store owner in Toledo, Ohio, has been praised for his compassionate response to a young shoplifter. Rather than calling the authorities, he took the time to speak with the boy and offered enough food to feed both him and his starving brother.
Last Saturday night, Jitendra 'Jay' Singh caught a teenager in his 7-Eleven store trying to pocket some candies. After calling 911, Singh confronted the young thief, asking him to empty his pockets on the counter. When questioned, the shoplifter explained he was stealing for himself and his hungry brother.
Instead of having the police arrest the teenager, which would have likely resulted in a criminal record and a bleak future, Singh chose a different path. He asked his employee to cancel the 911 call and told the boy to ask for food rather than steal it in the future. Singh also filled a bag with chicken drumsticks, hot dogs, pizza, and a bottle of Cola to make sure the hungry teen wouldn't leave empty-handed.
