We all have a funny animal encounter or two to share, and the Internet, along with social media, is always overflowing with “adorable” animal posts. After all, animals have always been a significant part of our lives. We have domestic animals that provide us with food, clothing, and companionship, while wildlife is something most of us experience only at zoos, sanctuaries, or on safaris.
It’s not uncommon to come across unfortunate tales of human-wildlife interactions. Sometimes, our encounters happen by accident, and the results can be downright hilarious. Some stories are so strange that they bring a good laugh and get shared widely on social media. From seagulls gone wild to bears showing up unexpectedly, penguins stealing sushi, and a snakebite victim getting the ultimate payback, here are some of the funniest wildlife stories making headlines.
10. Man Takes Revenge on Snake

Getting bitten by a snake is unfortunately not an unusual occurrence. But one Indian man broke from typical first-aid practices when he sought a bizarre form of revenge on the rat snake that bit him one Sunday afternoon in July 2019. After his peaceful drink was disturbed by an unexpected snakebite, the victim struck back. He actually grabbed the snake and bit it until it was no more.
Hospital staff were shocked when the man's family arrived not only with the snakebite victim but also with the remains of the chewed-up snake. Fortunately, the snake involved wasn’t venomous.
9. Rowdy Seabirds

Seagulls are notorious in seaside towns, often descending in large numbers to scavenge for food, leaving droppings everywhere. A picnic with fish and chips can quickly turn into chaos as large flocks of seagulls swoop down on unsuspecting visitors. It’s also quite common to get an “unwanted gift” dropped from above.
However, coastal towns in Southern England have been struggling with a new problem—not from rowdy pub-goers, but from their native seagulls, who seem to be developing a taste for alcohol. Seagulls in places like Bournemouth and Devon have been drinking from leftover pub drinks, brewery containers, and even discarded beverage containers on the beach—anywhere they can find alcohol.
These drunken birds have been spotted staggering along the beach and vomiting on passersby. Wildlife officers called to help the sick gulls have reported that the birds “reek of alcohol” after their boozy escapades. The inebriated gulls are collected and sent to a nearby sanctuary for treatment.
8. Chihuahua Stolen by a Seagull

When they aren’t scavenging for food from seaside picnickers, seagulls are typically predators, feasting on crabs and small fish near their rookeries. These bold birds have even been known to attack passing whales, diving in to grab a bite of live whale meat.
In July 2019, a family from Devon was devastated when a swooping seagull snatched their pet. Gizmo, the Chihuahua, was watching his owner hang laundry in the backyard when suddenly a seagull swooped down and flew off with the small dog. Despite hopes that the gull might have realized its mistake and dropped the dog, Gizmo has never been found.
Wildlife officers confirmed that this was an unusual act, even by seagull standards.
7. Penguins Stealing Sushi

Little Penguins, native to New Zealand and parts of Southeast Australia, are typically shy creatures. Both tourists and locals enjoy the sunset “penguin parades,” where these tiny birds waddle back to their beachside rookeries after a day of fishing. It's very rare for them to seek out human interaction.
However, in July 2019, a couple of little penguins in Wellington, New Zealand, seemed to have decided fishing was too much effort. The two birds took up residence under the fridge in a harborside sushi bar, where they helped themselves to the fish. Wildlife officers intervened, returning the pair to Wellington Harbour, where fish were abundant.
Clearly dissatisfied with their return to the wild, the penguins swam back to shore once again, waddling up the street to continue their free meal hunt. Officers eventually relocated them farther offshore in hopes they would return to their more traditional fishing habits.
6. Australian Steer Reporting For ‘Bale’

In June 2019, a police station on Australia’s east coast found itself in lockdown, not due to a violent criminal, but because of a rampaging steer.
The Belted Galloway was one of two steers being transported in a livestock trailer through the coastal town of Batemans Bay. When the vehicle stopped at a traffic light, one of the steers broke free from the trailer, causing chaos as it sprinted up and down the busy street.
Local police were shocked when the steer eventually charged through the police station’s door, rampaging through the front area. Batemans Bay, unlike some areas of Australia, is not a place you'd expect to find cattle roaming the streets.
Funny reports of the incident mentioned the steer being given a “Moooooooove-on direction” and claimed it was looking for “bale.” Livestock officers eventually managed to capture the runaway and return it to its owner.
5. Alligator In Florida Pool

When you live near bodies of water that house potentially dangerous creatures like alligators and crocodiles, you become very familiar with the necessary safety precautions to prevent unwanted encounters. But you would assume that your backyard pool would be a safe haven to relax and cool down. However, this was not the case for one family in Fernandina Beach, Florida, who discovered an alligator had made itself quite comfortable in their pool in August 2019.
When Wendy Langley heard splashing sounds in the pool late at night, she never expected to find an alligator swimming when she switched on the floodlights.
Wendy didn’t want her small children or pet dog to come near the alligator in the morning, so she began a late-night rescue effort to remove the unexpected swimmer. Local authorities spent several hours trapping the reptile and relocating it to a more suitable location.
4. ‘Drop Bear’

Wildlife frequently causes road hazards worldwide, with deer, elk, kangaroos, livestock, and other animals often causing accidents by wandering onto busy highways. But in August 2019, a California police car became an unexpected casualty when a bear fell onto it, reducing it to a burned-out wreck.
While traveling on State Route 96, a sheriff’s deputy was caught off guard when a bear crashed onto the vehicle’s hood, shattering the windshield. The sudden impact caused the vehicle to roll off the road and catch fire.
In an unbelievable twist, the driver walked away from the bizarre incident unharmed, while the bear vanished from the scene before emergency responders could arrive. It remains uncertain whether the bear fell from the steep embankment or jumped onto the car intentionally.
3. Fox Cubs Bouncing On Trampoline

Children aren't the only ones who enjoy some playtime in the backyard—baby animals also indulge in some fun in the wild. While stories of nocturnal woodland creatures playing are common in childhood tales, these nighttime adventures are real, as a homeowner in Cardiff, Wales, discovered in August 2019.
Early one morning, his motion-sensor cameras picked up movement in the yard, and to his surprise, the culprits were a family of fox cubs joyfully bouncing on the trampoline. The man captured the lively antics of the baby foxes for some time as they hopped and played.
Although it's not uncommon to see a fox pass through the yard in the early evening, having a family of foxes take over the play equipment in the dead of night was a truly unusual sight.
2. Raccoon Stuck In Vending Machine

The raccoon’s signature masked face often gives it the appearance of a cunning bandit. But in August 2019, a furry thief in Florida was caught in the act. Rather than scrounging for fruit or rummaging through trash bins, this particular raccoon managed to break into a high school vending machine, where it indulged in a feast of fruit snacks.
Unfortunately, the mischievous raccoon got trapped inside the machine. It was eventually rescued after local wildlife authorities arrived, wheeling the vending machine outside and carefully dismantling it, allowing the four-legged bandit to escape.
1. A Silent Travel Companion

For many of us, traveling with dogs is an enjoyable experience. Whether it's a quick errand or a long journey, our canine companions are always up for the adventure. But the sadness of saying goodbye when the trip ends is a familiar feeling. However, for one Oregon dog owner, this farewell took an unexpected turn.
After his beloved Jack Russell Terrier, Phoebe, passed away in 2013, Mitch Byer made the decision to have her preserved through taxidermy so she could remain a part of his daily life. He continues to take her on road trips, but this has led to some confusion and concern from passersby who spot the dog left in his car. To prevent misunderstandings, Mitch now places a sign on his window that reads, "Don’t worry, the dog is already dead. She’s taxidermied. Please don’t break my window."
Phoebe has even gained her own following online, with social media accounts dedicated to her, which have become quite popular.
