While hearing voices can be unsettling for many (and often associated with conditions listed in the DSM-V), this isn't the case for everyone. These 10 people assert that they communicate with beings who provide spiritual insights and positive messages from a higher realm of awareness. Are you doubtful or convinced?
10. Darryl Anka

In 1973, Darryl Anka experienced two close encounters with a UFO in broad daylight within a single week. This marked the beginning of his decade-long exploration into the paranormal, culminating in his connection with an extraterrestrial consciousness named Bashar, which translates to “bringer of good news” in Arabic. During a channeling session, Anka received his first telepathic message from Bashar, who revealed that the UFO Anka had seen years earlier belonged to him.
Initially, Anka questioned whether he was hallucinating or if Bashar’s voice was a result of group meditation. However, he eventually embraced the idea that even if Bashar wasn’t a real extraterrestrial but rather a manifestation of his own mind, the messages could still inspire people to improve their lives. Since 1983, Anka has publicly channeled Bashar, encouraging others to “pursue their greatest joy” and “turn their dreams into reality rather than just dreaming about them.”
Today, many of Bashar’s sessions are available on Anka’s website. People or groups can also book a 60-minute, face-to-face session in Los Angeles.
9. Annie Kirkwood

In 1987, Annie Kirkwood had an unusual encounter in her Texas home: she detected the scent of roses and sensed the unmistakable presence of Mary, the mother of Jesus. Thinking there was a misunderstanding, Kirkwood informed Mary that she wasn’t Catholic, and Mary replied, “Nor am I.” This marked the start of their collaboration to spread a message of boundless love to humanity.
As Kirkwood (and Mary) explain, God’s love for everyone is unconditional, and “we already possess all the wisdom and knowledge we require within us. We just need to trust our innate, God-given guidance.” In essence, the ultimate goal is to love without conditions, which can be achieved through “acceptance and appreciation.” Kirkwood emphasizes that Mary’s message highlights how God created each person as unique, and it’s through this individuality that God connects with us. Trying to imitate others or forcing others to conform to our ideas of worship or prayer only leads us astray.
8. Yasmeen Clark

Since 1986, Yasmeen Clark has been channeling Raman, an “enlightened spiritual master.” Her first encounter occurred during a group meditation in October of that year. Clark described feeling as if she were “lifted off her chair by a powerful force,” accompanied by a surge of adrenaline, heart palpitations, and a brief loss of consciousness. During this 30-minute episode, her group members heard Clark speak as Raman, who revealed that what they sought had always been within them.
Raman, of Persian and Afghan heritage, lived on Earth over 2,500 years ago and has chosen Clark as a medium to impart lessons of love and understanding. Clark shares that Raman urges humanity to “embrace our human nature and recognize the Divine in every living being.”
7. Jach Pursel

Since 1974, Jach Pursel has been a conduit for “a spark of consciousness” called Lazaris. Unlike Raman, Lazaris has never existed in physical form. They describe themselves as a collective consciousness and use the pronoun “we.” On October 3, while Pursel was asleep, he began speaking as Lazaris to his friend Peny North. North recalls Lazaris saying, “Alright. My name is Lazaris. I’d very much like to connect with you.”
Lazaris explains that their primary reason for communicating through Pursel was to speak with North, as well as to enjoy the experience: “We have fun. We’re not here to save anything. The only thing we might want to preserve is your freedom to choose and your ability to decide what’s best for yourself. We aim to protect your right to take complete responsibility for your reality, and that’s essentially our purpose.”
6. Helen Schucman

On October 21, 1965, Helen Schucman, a psychologist and associate professor of medical psychology at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City, heard an inner voice claiming to be Jesus. The voice instructed, “This is a course in miracles, please take notes.” Schucman complied, and over the next seven years, she transcribed “A Course in Miracles: A unique, universal, self-study spiritual system that teaches the path to Love and Inner Peace through Forgiveness.”
Interestingly, Schucman felt deeply uneasy about the messages she received. She wrote: “...I still considered myself an agnostic, resented the material I was transcribing, and felt compelled to challenge and disprove it... I found myself in the absurd position of not believing my own life’s work. The situation was utterly ridiculous and deeply distressing.” Fortunately for the 2,000 registered study groups worldwide now exploring the course in 23 languages, Schucman and her colleague, William Thetford, completed the project—comprising the main text, a student workbook, and a teacher’s guide—on September 7, 1972.
5. Blair Styra

For the past 24 years, Canadian Blair Styra has been channeling a spirit named Tabaash, who lived in ancient Sumeria around 5000 B.C. Tabaash’s message is clear: “We are all of divine nature, now. We are here to serve one another, now. We possess all the answers, now. Each day, we awaken and breathe life into ourselves, and each day, we choose how to live. We have always been the architects of our reality.” Tabaash believes that by embracing our “divine nature,” we can create lives of ease and harmony for ourselves and those around us.
4. Lee Carroll

In 1989, Lee Carroll experienced a profound spiritual awakening that “struck him like a bolt.” After two psychics independently predicted his encounter with an angelic being named Kryon, Carroll became a channel for this entity. Initially, Kryon’s message focused on debunking apocalyptic fears: “There will be no Armageddon. No millennium crisis. No doom and gloom. Humanity will avoid all of it. This shift is possible due to the evolving consciousness of the planet.”
Carroll explains that the initial messages were just the beginning. After 2012 passed without catastrophe, Kryon shifted focus to what the Maya truly foretold: “waves of potential shifts in global consciousness.” Carroll notes that this prophecy isn’t unique to Kryon; indigenous cultures worldwide have been discussing the same predictions for over 4,000 years.
One of Carroll’s—and Kryon’s—most notable contributions is popularizing the term “Indigo Child,” which he and his spiritual partner Jan Tober explored in their book The Indigo Children. In an interview with the Las Vegas Spectrum, Tober described Indigo Children as “individuals who exhibit a unique set of psychological traits and behaviors previously undocumented in history.”
3. Jane Roberts

In the 1960s, Jane Roberts began channeling Seth, a spiritual guide who introduced the concept of “you create your own reality.” Often credited as the voice that sparked the modern New Age movement, Seth dictated eight books through Roberts, including The Nature of Personal Reality, The Individual and the Nature of Mass Events, and Dreams, Evolution, and Value Fulfillment. Inspired by Seth’s teachings, Roberts also authored three novels: The Education of Oversoul Seven, Further Education of Oversoul Seven, and Oversoul 7 and the Museum of Time.
Seth’s teachings emphasize: “Events are not random occurrences that happen to you. They are manifestations of your expectations and beliefs. If you face poor health, you can heal. If your relationships are troubled, you can improve them. If you experience poverty, you can transform it into abundance.”
2. Esther Hicks

Esther Hicks, a motivational speaker and author, began channeling Abraham—a collective of spiritual guides from a non-physical realm—after nine months of meditation. Hicks has authored numerous books and travels globally, sharing insights from this “infinite intelligence” or “universal source.”
Abraham teaches that the universe operates under the law of attraction, which asserts that “like attracts like,” and our purpose is to experience joy. Their philosophy is summarized in these 12 principles:
1. We are physical manifestations of the non-physical. 2. We inhabit physical bodies by choice. 3. Freedom is the foundation of our existence; joy is our purpose. 4. As creators, we shape our reality through our thoughts. 5. Anything we imagine is within our reach. 6. Our emotions serve as our internal compass. 7. The universe cherishes us. 8. Well-being is our natural state; all is well. 9. Each of us has a unique journey to joy. 10. Actions and possessions stem from our focus on joy. 11. We can transition from our bodies without suffering. 12. We are eternal beings.
In 2006, Esther Hicks released the widely acclaimed book The Law of Attraction, followed by several others, all guided by the wisdom of Abraham.
1. Neale Donald Walsch

Neale Donald Walsch reached his lowest point after a car accident and a failed marriage left him homeless. For a year, he survived on the streets, collecting bottles for money, until he managed to rebuild his life with a stable job and a place to live. Despite this, he still felt a deep void. One February night in 1992, Walsch grabbed a yellow legal pad and pen, writing a furious letter to God that began with the question: “What does it take to make life work?” To his astonishment, he received a response.
This marked the start of a dialogue between Walsch and God, exploring the essence of existence. Walsch documented these conversations in the first of many Conversations with God books. According to Walsch’s interpretation of God’s message, “Life’s purpose is to continuously reinvent ourselves into the greatest vision we hold of who we can be.” Walsch emphasizes that there is no division between humanity and God, and by embracing “forgiveness, compassion, tolerance, mercy, peace, acceptance, and love” for ourselves, we can extend these qualities to others.
