Even if you’re unsure how to pronounce his name, chances are you’ve seen Giorgio Tsoukalos on Ancient Aliens and pondered two things: Is there life beyond Earth, and what’s the secret behind his iconic hairstyle?
The alien expert, who has become a viral internet sensation (and also publishes Legendary Times Magazine and leads Erich von Daniken’s Ancient Alien Society), addressed these curiosities and more during his engaging Reddit AMA last Friday. Here are the top 10 highlights.
1. ALIEN TECHNOLOGY MIGHT RENDER THEM INVISIBLE TO HUMAN EYES.
When questioned about the Fermi Paradox (which raises the question: if aliens exist, why haven’t we encountered them?), Tsoukalos responded, “The Fermi Paradox is a crucial observation. However, if extraterrestrials do exist and have visited or are observing us, their technology is far superior to anything we can conceive. The notion that ‘if they exist, where are they?’—as the Fermi Paradox suggests—doesn’t hold because their advanced technology could make them effectively invisible to us, even if they are present.”
2. HE’S FINE WITH PEOPLE THINKING HE’S ECCENTRIC.
When addressing skeptics who consider his beliefs in extraterrestrial life absurd, Tsoukalos remarked, “That’s completely okay. I openly acknowledge that my ideas might seem crazy, and I understand why people think that. However, this doesn’t stop me from pursuing answers. If asking questions in today’s world makes me crazy, then I proudly accept being the craziest of all.”
3. NO SINGLE THEORY CONCLUSIVELY PROVES ALIEN EXISTENCE.
Tsoukalos explained, “It’s not about one specific piece of evidence. It’s the bigger picture. In the Ancient Astronaut theory, we rely on circumstantial evidence—a collection of various clues that, when combined, build a compelling case. While there are no displayed UFO wrecks or recovered alien tools to serve as definitive proof, the accumulation of circumstantial evidence is significant. There’s no single ‘smoking gun,’ but rather a mosaic of interconnected details.”
4. HIS SIGNATURE HAIR IS DELIBERATELY CRAFTED.
Tsoukalos was quick to clarify one misconception: his iconic voluminous hair isn’t naturally that way. “Oh, it’s absolutely styled,” he admitted. “It takes a lot of hairspray to achieve that look.”
5. HE WITNESSED A UFO RECENTLY.
When asked if he’s ever encountered a UFO or unexplained phenomenon, Tsoukalos recounted, “On August 8, 2014, during the Contact in the Desert Conference in Joshua Tree, I, along with 26 others, observed two stars within the Big Dipper using night-vision goggles. These stars didn’t belong there, and after 10 minutes, they began moving equidistantly away from each other, ascending into the night sky until they vanished. I wouldn’t typically share this, but with 27 witnesses all confirming the same sighting, I’m confident in discussing it. We were all sober and certain—these weren’t meteors or satellites, as they moved upward, not toward Earth, and eventually disappeared.”
6. HE EMBRACES HIS MEME STATUS.
Tsoukalos fully embraces his status as an Internet meme. “I consider it a tremendous honor to have been adopted by the online community globally,” he stated. “It reflects the show’s popularity and the incredible support from fans. I truly believe I have the most dedicated fans in the world, and it’s amazing to see how much they love the show.”
7. HE FIRMLY BELIEVES ALIENS ARE STILL PRESENT ON EARTH.
“I’m captivated by the notion that there’s a significant gap between ancient alien interactions and the 1947 Roswell incident. The Roswell crash marked the return of extraterrestrials, but I don’t think they ever truly left,” Tsoukalos explained when asked why aliens might have stopped visiting. “They’ve likely been observing us all along, perhaps not as actively as in ancient times when they guided and shared knowledge with us. But if they did intervene, they’re probably curious to see how their influence has shaped us. So, I believe they’re still around in some capacity—it’s an intriguing idea.”
8. HE’S WATCHED ANCIENT ALIENS DEBUNKED, BUT IT DIDN’T CHANGE HIS MIND.
In 2012, Chris White released Ancient Aliens Debunked, a three-hour documentary challenging the theories presented in the History Channel’s series. However, Tsoukalos remains unconvinced. “A three-hour film can’t dismantle 50 years of research,” he argued. “I appreciate the effort, but it hasn’t altered my perspective in any way.”
9. HE’S A BIG FAN OF THE X-FILES.
Tsoukalos describes himself as “a massive enthusiast” of the show and is “thrilled about its return for six new episodes featuring the original cast—or at least part of it. While not everyone is returning, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are confirmed!”
10. HE’S ALSO OBSESSED WITH STAR WARS.
“Someone once asked me about my favorite alien-themed movie or TV show,” Tsoukalos shared. “OH MY GOSH, there are so many! I adore the Alien series. I’m a die-hard Star Wars fan. Stargate is entirely rooted in the Ancient Astronaut theory, so naturally, it’s a favorite. There are countless sci-fi films and shows that beautifully embrace the concept of Ancient Astronauts. I just watched the second Star Wars trailer, and I’m already planning to camp out for tickets. TAKE MY MONEY NOW!”
