10. Ancient Feathers: A Strange Discovery

A group of paleontologists from around the world recently discovered 100-million-year-old bird feathers and concluded that “they are the strangest feathers [they] have ever encountered.”
The feathers were in exceptional condition, allowing scientists to analyze their structure in detail. The conclusion was that these ancient feathers might have acted as a decoy, shedding off if a predator caught them—much like some modern lizards that can lose and regenerate their tails.
The feathers came from birds dating back to the Cretaceous period. These long tail feathers, called “tail streamers,” are found in modern birds like the peacock. While these feathers are typically used in courtship rituals, this new study suggests that they may have served a more practical function.
Until now, most ancient feather samples were flattened, making it impossible to capture an accurate 3-D representation. However, the feathers preserved in amber maintained their original dimensions.
Scientists found that the feathers had an exceptionally thin central shaft called a rachis, with far fewer barbs than anticipated. In other words, these feathers were designed to detach easily and could be replaced with minimal energy. Additionally, their muted colors contradict the idea that they were used for attracting mates.
The research team is headed by Lida Xing, a Chinese scientist from the China University of Geosciences in Beijing. She gained attention in 2016 when she uncovered a dinosaur tail with feathers preserved in amber while exploring the markets of Myanmar.
9. The Glittering Hand of Justice

During the holiday season, many people receive packages, and unfortunately, some of them end up being stolen. Thieves casually stroll through neighborhoods during the day, identifying homes with parcels on the porch. They then walk up to the door and take the packages.
This issue became all too real for Mark Rober. Despite having video footage of the thief, the police declined to take action because the effort wouldn’t justify the result.
However, Rober is a talented engineer known for creating impressive gadgets for his YouTube channel. Having spent nine years at NASA JPL, he certainly knows how to design a more effective trap. Or, more precisely, a better thief trap.
A video showing Rober building a glitter/fart bomb and using it on unsuspecting thieves quickly went viral, amassing over 25 million views within just a few days.
The device was cleverly disguised as a regular package. Thieves often snatch parcels without inspecting them closely. Had they read the label, they might have realized it was from Kevin McCallister of Home Alone fame, being delivered to Harry and Marv at 321 Wet Bandit Way.
The “bomb” went off as soon as it was removed from its box. First, it released a shower of glitter, then followed up with a burst of fart spray. The entire ordeal was captured by four hidden cameras, and a GPS tracker allowed Rober to retrieve the device after the glitter-covered, stinky thieves discarded it.
8. Romance, ’50s Style

A man stumbled upon a love letter from the 1950s, revealing the blossoming romance between his grandparents.
On July 30, 1954, U.S. serviceman Max Holcomb penned a heartfelt letter to his beloved, Martha Young. In 2018, this letter was surprisingly discovered on the floor of a Walmart in Dalton, Georgia. The staff quickly became captivated by the love story. Employee Jennifer Hendrix thought it would be a thoughtful gesture to find Max and Martha and return the letter to them.
Sadly, both Max and Martha had passed away. However, their grandson, Jason Holcomb, was still alive and was taken aback when Hendrix reached out to him.
In the letter, Max expresses his excitement about returning home in 15 days, where he intends to ask Martha’s parents for her hand in marriage. The Walmart staff were eager to learn more about the 64-year-old love story.
At first, Max had to bribe Martha’s father with candy just to get the chance to meet his daughter. Max and Martha’s first date took place at an ice cream parlor. They did indeed marry in August 1954 after Max’s return from the military.
7. A Neighbor to Remember

An elderly man, knowing his time was short, bought 14 years' worth of Christmas presents for the young daughter of his neighbors.
Two years ago, Ken moved to Barry, Vale of Glamorgan, Wales, where he became neighbors with Owen and Caroline Williams, who had a daughter, Cadi, around the same time he moved in. In his late eighties and in poor health, Ken’s final years were brightened by his friendship with the Williams family, especially his bond with Cadi. Owen and Caroline said their elderly neighbor “doted” on her.
Ken passed away recently, but he made sure Cadi would always remember him as she grew older. One Monday evening, his daughter rang the Williams family’s doorbell, holding a large sack. At first, Owen thought it was just a trash bag she wanted them to dispose of. But the sack contained gifts for Cadi—one for each Christmas for the next 14 years.
They opened one of the presents, which turned out to be a children’s book. The Williams family isn't sure what to do with the remaining gifts. Since Ken didn’t leave any specific instructions, they might open them sooner so Cadi doesn’t outgrow them.
6. Wonderful News for Dancing Dad

The dancing dad who captured the Internet’s heart with his performance for his ill son announced that his infant is now cancer free and will be coming home for the holidays.
Back in July, Kennith Thomas showed off his dance moves to lift the spirits of his son, Kristian. The 14-month-old had been in the hospital for over 30 days and was undergoing chemotherapy for acute megakaryoblastic leukemia (AMKL). Kennith’s wife, Josilyne, filmed the touching moment and posted it online, where it quickly went viral, attracting millions of views.
Since then, many people have reached out to support the Thomas family, including Ciara, the artist whose song “Level Up” Kennith danced to in the viral video. Unfortunately, Kristian had to return to the hospital for more chemotherapy. However, by the end of November, the toddler was declared cancer-free. The Thomas family now plans to use their newfound online platform to advocate for “other hurting families.”
5. A Pharmacist Walks Into A Barbershop

A new study published in the journal Circulation from the American Heart Association suggests that pharmacists can enhance heart health in men by working within barbershops.
This innovative healthcare approach is based on the idea that people are more likely to take medical advice when they’re in a relaxed, familiar setting. To test this concept, pharmacists have spent the past year working in 52 barbershops across Los Angeles County.
Customers came in for a haircut and ended up getting their blood pressure checked, with prescriptions being adjusted or written as needed. This study targeted 319 Black men, a group that is particularly at risk for hypertension and high blood pressure.
The first results from this study were published six months into the experiment. The findings showed that the approach effectively lowered blood pressure, leading researchers to extend the trial in order to assess its long-term effectiveness. A year later, researchers from the Smidt Heart Institute confirmed that the blood pressure reductions had been maintained, and in some cases, even improved, despite fewer visits to the barbershop pharmacist.
The next step for researchers is to determine the most efficient and affordable methods for expanding healthcare services at barbershops and applying this model beyond Los Angeles County.
4. Daughter Signs, Father Rocks Out

The power of rock music helped forge a stronger bond between a daughter and her deaf father when a video went viral of her signing to him during a Three Days Grace concert.
The rock band performed in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, last week, where 19-year-old Kari Carberry and her father, Darrin, were in attendance. Kari shared that her father was born deaf and wears a hearing aid in one ear, which helps him hear to some extent but not enough to catch the lyrics at a rock concert.
Luckily, Kari was there to assist him. A video shot by another concertgoer, Jules Maria, captured the moment as Kari signed the lyrics to 'Just Like You' so her dad could enjoy the song with her. Maria described the scene as ‘mesmerizing,’ and the video quickly gained popularity, reaching over 14 million views in less than a week.
Kari noticed several people filming her at the concert, but she didn’t mind. She was simply savoring the experience with her dad. They have plans to attend more concerts together in the future. Kari’s current top picks are Metallica, Theory of a Deadman, and Nickelback.
3. What Will You Be Watching This Christmas?

With Christmas almost here, many of us are preparing to cozy up on the couch and enjoy a movie or two. If you’re looking for some suggestions, the Radio Times recently surveyed 7,000 people in Britain to determine which holiday films are the most beloved of all time.
Everyone has their own idea of the greatest Christmas movie ever made. (For the record, it’s Die Hard.) In the UK, the beloved 1946 classic It’s A Wonderful Life takes the crown, followed by the Will Ferrell comedy Elf and The Muppet Christmas Carol. The top five is completed by the romantic comedy Love Actually and the antics of Kevin McCallister in Home Alone.
The action-packed Die Hard claimed the sixth spot, sparking debates on whether it qualifies as a true Christmas movie. While the film does unfold on Christmas Eve, an off-duty cop stopping a terrorist attack isn’t exactly the typical festive plotline.
Also noteworthy is Charles Dickens’s timeless story A Christmas Carol, which inspired no fewer than four films in the top 20. These include the Muppets’ version, the 1951 classic Scrooge, the 1984 TV movie starring George C. Scott, and the ‘80s comedy Scrooged starring Bill Murray.
2. Saving A Life On Air

Radio host Iain Lee from England kept a man, who had overdosed on drugs, on the phone for half an hour while emergency responders tracked him down after he shared his suicidal intentions.
Sadly, depression is all too common during the holiday season. Iain Lee, a TalkRadio host, is all too familiar with this, as he himself has battled mental health challenges in the past. That’s why he was determined to help a suicidal caller known only as “Chris” who dialed into his late-night show.
At first, it seemed hopeless. Chris disclosed that he had already ingested a mix of drugs. But Lee refused to give up, engaging him in conversation to ensure he stayed conscious for as long as possible, all while trying to gather more details about Chris's location and appearance.
Lee learned that Chris was nearly 60 and calling from a spot near a nightclub in Plymouth. In the meantime, Lee’s producer worked swiftly to notify emergency services, sharing information as it came through.
There were tense moments when Chris fell silent for several minutes. After nearly 30 minutes, police confirmed that an ambulance had located Chris, found him still alive, treated him, and transported him to the hospital. On-air, Lee could be heard breaking down in tears. Later, Devon and Cornwall police praised him for his efforts.
1. Santa Joins Forces with Moses

A Secret Santa, known for anonymously handing out money to strangers each year, is back spreading festive goodwill—and this time, he has an unexpected helper. Moses Elder, a homeless man, assisted the Secret Santa this year by rewarding kind strangers who gave him spare change with $100 bills in return.
This isn't the first time the Secret Santa has made headlines. He’s a wealthy, anonymous businessman who travels across the country, sharing money with people in need. While in Phoenix, Arizona, this year, he handed Moses $3,000 with the freedom to distribute it however he chose.
Moses had the option to keep the money for himself. As a homeless man, that amount would have made a significant impact on his life during the holidays. But instead, he chose to continue the spirit of giving and spread the Christmas joy to others.
Moses distributed most of the money to those who had shown him kindness, such as people who dropped change into his cup. He gave $500 to a homeless mother with five children and another $400 to a man he recognized from church. His own selflessness and integrity didn’t go unnoticed, and the Secret Santa rewarded him for his generosity afterward.
