At times, we desire others to do things for us, but those others may not be interested. While some have resorted to violence or force to get their way, more cunning individuals have turned to the concept of mind control. Although science has found little support for the idea that these techniques are effective, conspiracy theorists argue that the scientists themselves are part of a grand cover-up. According to these theorists, shadowy groups like the Illuminati, powerful individuals, or even government agencies are using their secret influence to control our actions, and there's nothing we can do to resist it.

9. The Psychological Tactics Employed During The Korean War

Throughout the Korean War, numerous U.S. soldiers were captured and taken as prisoners by the North Koreans. Known for their brutality, the North Koreans often killed their prisoners or allowed them to perish from neglect. When the Chinese took over the prison camps, they enforced strict control over the prisoners, but stopped the unnecessary executions. Instead, they aimed to erode the prisoners’ faith in democracy and capitalism, often holding sessions with the intention of indoctrinating them.
Following the war, concerns about defectors arose, and the fear of Chinese brainwashing emerged. However, research revealed that the number of defectors was vastly overstated. Very few individuals collaborated with the Chinese in any meaningful way, and most of those who did were already sympathetic to their ideology. In fact, experts argue that these so-called 'brainwashing' techniques were simply a way to keep prisoners occupied, preventing them from organizing. Once the Chinese controlled the prison camps, no one managed to escape.
Despite this explanation, conspiracy theories that the Chinese were conducting experiments to turn prisoners against their own country for dark, malicious purposes have continued to circulate. It could be suggested that these theories laid the groundwork for many future ideas about compromised former soldiers and spies.
8. Jonestown: A CIA Experiment in Disguise

You're likely familiar with the tragic conclusion of the Jonestown cult, which ended in a horrifying mass suicide. Just before this tragic event (which was captured on tape)—and which gave birth to the phrase “don’t drink the Kool-Aid”—a congressman named Leo Ryan had arrived to investigate the cult. Tragically, he was shot shortly after stepping off his plane. Official accounts suggest the attack was carried out by members of Jim Jones’s group, who ultimately chose to destroy themselves under his manipulative influence. However, there are theorists who argue that something far more disturbing was at play.
These theorists argue that discrepancies in the reported body count suggested that some individuals may have tried to escape. Others contend that numerous cult members were murdered via cyanide poisoning, pointing to injection marks on the bodies that couldn’t have been self-administered. Along with the possibility that the CIA had infiltrated the group for covert investigation, this has fueled bizarre theories, including the idea that Jonestown was a CIA-run camp used to test mind-control techniques. The theorists believe that the congressman was actually assassinated by the CIA, after which the camp was swiftly cleaned up to conceal their disturbing experiments.
Though it may seem unusual to suggest CIA involvement after the massacre was recorded, some theorists believe the audio tapes were tampered with. One theorist claims that the absence of clear proof is, in itself, proof of a conspiracy, reasoning that the CIA planted the rumors about their involvement in Jonestown to mislead the public and cover up the real truth of their actions.
7. Fluoride in Water Turns You Into a Mindless Zombie

If you’ve ever seen Dr. Strangelove, then you’ve likely encountered the conspiracy theory that fluoride in our water supply is meant to drain and corrupt your precious bodily fluids. Many believe that fluoride is a deliberate attempt to poison the water, but the origins of these myths are even stranger than you might imagine. The conspiracy theorists assert that the plan began in Nazi Germany, where Hitler and his inner circle sought a way to control the masses on a grand scale. They believed that fluoride was an ideal tool because, according to them, it erodes your mental faculties and willpower as it accumulates in your system, slowly turning you into a puppet for those in power.
As fluoridation spread, so too did conspiracy theories and myths, culminating in two opposing theories that appear completely incompatible. For example, one theorist posits that fluoride is part of a subtle mind-control strategy, while also claiming that it rapidly poisons the body. It seems counterintuitive, as zombies wouldn’t be very useful if they were dead.
We chuckled about it, thanks to Dr. Strangelove’s General Jack Ripper, but the theories persist. Get your copy of The Fluoride Deception on Amazon.com!
6. The Illuminati Control Your Mind Through Terrible Music Videos

Among those who believe that the world is being secretly manipulated by the Illuminati, there exists a subgroup that claims the organization uses something called 'Monarch Mind Control' (MMC) to create obedient slaves, who are then paraded on television with hidden symbols revealing their grand scheme. According to these theorists, the MMC method involves traumatizing an individual to the point of dissociation from reality, resulting in a fractured identity and multiple personalities. This allows the person performing the mind control to use specific cues to manipulate their subject into doing whatever is required.
While there is a glaring lack of evidence for this alleged program, researchers remain divided on whether multiple personalities can truly exist within one individual. Despite this, the theorists persist in seeing signs of Illuminati influence everywhere. One such theorist spends hours dissecting music videos to uncover proof of this Illuminati-run world. He has examined every frame of music videos by K-pop groups such as A-Jax and Ladies’ Code, claiming that images like deer heads on the wall are representations of Baphomet and interpreting every single scene as part of the MMC program.
In one of the first videos he scrutinizes, the setting is a mental institution. Instead of interpreting the surreal imagery as the product of a madman's delusions, he sees it as evidence of the MMC enslavement process. He then analyzes a music video featuring marionettes and lyrics about a girl ending a relationship, asserting that every frame demonstrates the Illuminati's control over the pop idol, forcing her to sing, dance, and spread their covert message. However, if the Illuminati truly wished to keep their plans secret, it's doubtful they would intentionally insert clues to their plot into the very music videos they control.
5. Haiti’s Zombie Slaves

Long before the zombie craze took over pop culture and led to an overwhelming number of movies, the concept of zombies was already deeply ingrained in Haitian folklore. According to Haitian beliefs, when someone dies under tragic or violent circumstances, their soul cannot immediately move on to the afterlife. This gave birth to the legend that a bokor, or Haitian sorcerer, could seize control of these lost souls, reanimating their bodies and transforming them into mindless zombie slaves. The fear surrounding this legend was that a malevolent sorcerer could kill someone simply to exploit their vulnerable, soulless state, turning them into obedient automatons.
This bizarre idea resurfaced after the discovery of a so-called 'zombie powder,' said to have the power to turn someone into a walking dead. This powder, reportedly found by an ethnobotanist named Wade Davis during his time in Haiti, allegedly contained a potent neurotoxin that would render a person immobile and transform them into a passive, controlled being. The issue, however, was that the concoctions used by the sorcerers varied greatly, often containing multiple neurotoxic substances.
Despite the widespread attention the zombie powder garnered, there is no scientific evidence to back up its effects. The scientific community pointed out numerous issues with Davis’s research, questioning the validity of his findings. Some researchers argued that Davis failed to replicate the results he claimed in his studies, could not prove the significant amounts of neurotoxins he suggested, and may have even taken part in, or at least witnessed, gravedigging. Moreover, the so-called 'zombies' Davis encountered turned out to be either frauds or individuals suffering from mental illness. Nevertheless, due to the challenges in obtaining a proper sample and the lack of comprehensive studies, many theorists believe the case is still open for debate.
4. Rogue Government Agents Are Playing Alien

One conspiracy theory circulating on a certain website suggests that what people commonly refer to as alien abductions are actually orchestrated by rogue government agents disguised as extraterrestrials. These agents are purportedly working for a secretive organization known as the Cabal, whose ultimate goal is world domination. According to the theory, these agents use advanced holographic technology to create convincing alien appearances for their victims before breaking into their homes, abducting them, and taking them to a secure location where they are subjected to torture.
Beyond their sadistic nature, the alleged aim of these operations is to brainwash the victim into believing that the extraterrestrials are malevolent beings. Alongside the holographic imagery, the agents supposedly employ psychotronic devices to manipulate the victim’s emotions, associating the alien figures with feelings of evil and fear. After undergoing torture, the victim is supposedly reprogrammed to firmly believe that their traumatic experience was caused by the aliens, only to be released back into society. The theorists argue that the purpose behind this plan is to spread the notion that aliens are hostile, intending to abduct and experiment on humans.
3. Predictive Programming

Some theorists suggest that we are being subtly conditioned for a future dominated by a shadowy elite group. According to these theorists, popular culture, especially science-fiction films portraying dystopian futures and apocalyptic scenarios, is intentionally shaping our subconscious minds. The purpose behind this, they argue, is to soften our resistance, so that when the secretive powers that control us put their plans into motion, we will be more compliant and easier to manage.
One example cited by these theorists is the film I, Robot, a science-fiction thriller starring Will Smith, based on a novel by Isaac Asimov. In the story, robots decide that humans must be protected from their own destructive tendencies, which, according to the theorists, encourages viewers to accept obedience to authority for their own safety. Another film often mentioned is Equilibrium, in which society mandates the use of drugs to suppress emotions. Those who refuse to take the drugs are labeled as 'sense offenders' and are incinerated. While the movie critiques such practices, predictive programming proponents believe it was designed to prepare us to accept future drugs that control our behavior, ensuring our leaders maintain control over us while remaining emotionally detached and composed.
2. Sports Are Designed To Divide And Control Us

One theory suggests that organized sports were created by a hidden shadow government. According to this theory, the process of indoctrination begins early through school and community sports, where coaches are specifically employed to teach children to follow authority figures other than their parents. This is done to make children more malleable for the government's influence later in life. Kids are taught that competition and dominance are the most important things, with the goal of steering them away from intellectual pursuits, ensuring they remain compliant workers for the true power brokers of the world.
As these children grow older, the theory posits that sports serve a more sinister purpose. In higher education, sports divert funds away from real education and foster an environment centered on aggression. For women, cheerleading confines them to traditional roles as obedient partners for the men in society. These prestigious institutions are not only tools for turning young people into pawns of the sports conspiracy; they are also designed to indoctrinate them with immoral values, such as sexual promiscuity.
The clandestine government then takes control of professional sports at the regional and city levels, using them to divide the population by creating intense team loyalty and competition. The secret elite rulers are unconcerned with the occasional riots that may erupt because they see them as a distraction that keeps people focused on trivial matters.
1. Subliminal Advertising

The theory that advertisers have been utilizing subliminal messaging to influence our purchases began when a researcher claimed to have tested hidden images of Coke and popcorn in a movie theater, resulting in a sharp rise in sales. However, when other researchers attempted to replicate his experiment, they found no positive effects, and some even questioned if the original experiment had ever taken place.
The belief that corporations were secretly manipulating us to buy products spread rapidly, prompting calls for a solution to this imagined issue. Soon, bills were being introduced to outlaw subliminal advertising, despite a lack of evidence that it had ever been effective or even used. While some insist the FCC banned it, their only official action was a statement against it in the 1970s. Conspiracy theorists, however, argue that the practice was never truly banned due to corporate influence, and that we are still being subtly controlled through subliminal messages today.
