Christmas is a season that brings people together from every corner of the world. It’s about spreading joy and goodwill wherever possible. However, life doesn’t always go as planned, and many of us face challenges.
In those difficult moments, we often hope for something or someone to help change our circumstances. So, here’s a collection of 10 real miracles that truly happened.
10. A Letter to Santa Gets a Response

We’ve all faced moments in life when things just aren’t going right. At the very least, we’ve witnessed our loved ones go through difficult times. It’s heartbreaking when someone is struggling and unable to provide for their family, particularly children.
This was the situation for Rosa Cardenas de Reyes during Christmas 2011. With her husband unemployed for some time and no means to afford a traditional Christmas, she decided to uphold a family tradition of sending letters to Santa via balloon. She had her daughter write a letter detailing her wishes for Christmas before sending it off into the sky.
As it happened, the letter found its way exactly where it needed to go—Northern California. It landed on a ranch owned by Lane Sanderson. He and his son were riding an ATV when they discovered the letter.
After having a ranch hand translate the letter, Sanderson knew immediately what needed to be done. He contacted the Reyes family to let Rosa know the letter had been found. Lane’s wife, Julie, took her daughter to pick out clothes and a doll, and they sent the gifts via express delivery to the Reyes family.
Overwhelmed with gratitude, Rosa tearfully told interviewers: “I was very much surprised. It is like a miracle happened, a Christmas miracle.”
9. Young Girl Defies Deadly Flu

In St. Petersburg, Florida, in 2015, a young girl fell seriously ill. Her parents first noticed a mild fever on Sunday, December 13. She seemed to improve that day, but it was only a temporary relief. As days went by, little Gemma’s condition worsened—she turned pale, and her fingers and toes grew cold.
Realizing how critical the situation was, her parents quickly took her to the emergency room. Tragically, Gemma went into cardiac arrest, prompting the doctors to perform CPR immediately.
After an intense 45 minutes, Gemma’s heart miraculously started beating again. She went on to make a full recovery, an event that the doctors described as nothing short of a miracle.
8. Accident Survivor Finds Her Voice Again

Some miracles happen not by chance, but because modern technology pushes the boundaries of what's possible.
Following a devastating crash in 1996 that ejected her from the car, Joellan Huntley was left paralyzed. She couldn’t walk or talk, and was fed through a tube, relying only on simple noises to communicate.
Her mother, Louise, discovered a device that could convert eye movements into words. Though it came with a hefty price tag, they were able to afford it thanks to a million-dollar insurance settlement they had received.
When the device arrived in December 2017, Louise asked her daughter if she liked the Christmas sweater she was wearing. Through this miraculous technology, Joellan was able to answer her mother’s question for the first time in two long decades.
Her mother called it a “Christmas miracle.” She said, “It was God’s way of telling me that she has finally achieved what she needed to since the accident.”
7. Rescued Freezing Puppies

On a lighter note for Christmas miracles, we find ourselves in Edmonton, Alberta, where Tessa Lee received a call about puppies. Who wouldn’t be excited about a call involving puppies? The trouble was, these little animals were lost, alone, and freezing in the harsh winter cold outside the city.
Tessa immediately drove to the location, about 90 kilometers (56 miles) away, and discovered five malnourished puppies shivering in the cold. Without hesitation, she scooped them up and rushed them to the nearest veterinarian.
The on-call vet was able to help the puppies recover quickly once they were brought into a warm environment with easy access to food. Due to their starvation, the puppies could only be fed small meals with bottles, as they couldn’t handle solid food.
6. WestJet Spreads Holiday Cheer to Fort McMurray

One of the most wonderful aspects of Christmas as a holiday is its power to bring people together. While we’re often familiar with the greed and coldness of big corporations, after the 2016 wildfire that devastated the town of Fort McMurray, Alberta, WestJet, the major airline, did something truly thoughtful.
To understand the scale of the disaster, nearly 2,500 homes were destroyed, and 100,000 residents were unable to return home for the holidays.
In an effort to restore the Christmas spirit to the charred town, WestJet organized a “Snowflake Soiree” for the entire community. The airline distributed gifts and even managed to bring in singer Johnny Reid for a live performance.
The renowned and always busy Santa Claus even made an appearance, delivering some very special presents. Rhys Popejoy, who had lost his cherished Harry Potter books in the fire, was given two replacements from a WestJet employee who was also a Harry Potter fan. She donated her own golden snitch and Quidditch goggles to Rhys.
WestJet issued a statement expressing their deep connection to the community. The vice president of marketing communications shared, “This year, we wanted Christmas to mean just a little bit more.”
5. Lost Dog Travels 1,000 Kilometers (600 Mi)

Most of us have felt the panic of losing a pet, whether it’s a dog, cat, or even a turtle. Being responsible for an animal’s well-being only amplifies the worry.
Ashley Power from Spruce Grove, Alberta, experienced the heartbreak of losing her dog, Frankie. “It was horrible, I was in disbelief,” she shared with reporters. She endured that grief for five long months, sending flyers over hundreds of miles in the hope of being reunited with her pet.
Just when she had lost all hope, Ashley received a call from the Langley Animal Protection Society (LAPS). They had found Frankie running loose in Abbotsford, British Columbia, which is over 1,000 kilometers (600 miles) away.
Unfortunately, Power didn’t have the funds to fly Frankie home. So, LAPS enlisted the help of a truck driver to make the long journey, and he was more than happy to assist. “That’s why I’m doing this. He livened right up and was all over her,” the driver said after delivering Frankie back to Power.
Overjoyed to have her dog back just in time for the holidays, she shared with an interviewer, “It was a Christmas miracle for us, absolutely.”
4. Canoer Rescues Teens From Drowning

For many children, playing in the snow and ice is an essential part of the Christmas experience. However, those who live in warmer climates miss out on this magical aspect of the season. But the deep snow and freezing temperatures can also be dangerous. Two teens from Duncan, Nebraska, learned this lesson firsthand.
While visiting a grandmother, the boys ventured outside and crossed a frozen lake. Unfortunately, the ice was too thin, and they both fell through into the freezing waters. “All you could feel was the outline of your body,” one boy recalled.
The boys were fortunate. Nearby, Rick Blessen, a passionate canoer, heard the teens calling for help. He quickly paddled out in his canoe, giving life jackets to the boys and holding on to them while an emergency crew used a rope tied to the canoe to pull all three to safety.
One of the boys mentioned that without Blessen’s timely arrival, he doubted the teens would have lasted more than 10 minutes. And he was right. In such freezing waters, survival time is often less than 15 minutes, making this a particularly perilous situation. That's why the people of Duncan village regard Blessen’s heroic act as a Christmas miracle.
3. A Christmas Truce

World War I was an incredibly brutal and devastating conflict, with some estimates suggesting over 20 million lives lost and another 20 million wounded over the course of its four-year duration. But how does this relate to Christmas miracles?
During the first year of what was known as “The Great War,” something remarkable occurred. After months of fierce fighting, the violence ceased on Christmas Day 1914. This was not due to an official ceasefire arranged by politicians, but because the soldiers, deep in the trenches, were longing for a moment of holiday cheer.
On that Christmas morning, the Allied soldiers were unexpectedly greeted with the words, “Merry Christmas.” However, this wasn’t from their comrades but from across no-man’s-land—the perilous stretch between opposing trenches. German soldiers had crossed over to meet their enemies.
Naturally, the Allied soldiers feared it could be a trap. But seeing the German soldiers come unarmed, they decided to respond. The two sides came together, sang carols, exchanged gifts of cigarettes and pudding, and even played soccer. This spontaneous display of humanity amidst the horrors of war reminds us all to be kinder, as it surely should.
2. Local Workers Give Up Christmas Party

Not every miracle begins with something dreadful. Sometimes, miracles are simply small acts of kindness—those thoughtful gestures that people make for one another. A great example of this came from a group of workers at an energy company in Medicine Hat, Alberta.
These employees, inspired purely by the Christmas spirit, made their way to a local elementary school with a truck full of presents for students in every grade. And to make the event even more magical, Santa Claus himself appeared to help distribute the gifts. One student even got exactly what he had wished for—a shiny Hot Wheels car.
Perhaps the most heartwarming part of this story is how the workers funded this initiative. Instead of holding their usual Christmas party, they decided to spend over $10,000 to buy gifts for the children.
But they didn’t stop there. They also donated $3,000 to help fund various school improvements. Mark Davidson, the school’s superintendent, shared with local news outlets: “It’s a truly remarkable gift for our school.”
1. Hit-And-Run Ends In A Miracle

Christmas is meant to be a time of celebration with loved ones. It’s the season where we all hope to feel safe and warm, not a time when tragedy strikes. But unfortunately, that’s exactly what the Brooks-Szabo family faced for months.
In October 2013, 10-year-old Tyler Brooks-Szabo was out enjoying a bike ride when a driver, possibly impatient or under the influence, veered onto the sidewalk and struck him. The impact threw Tyler to the ground, leaving him with a cracked pelvis and head injuries, which caused him to fall into a coma.
For two long months, Tyler’s family and the entire community held onto hope for his recovery. Just two days before Christmas, when they were preparing to celebrate without him, Tyler miraculously awoke. While still needing constant care, his family was overjoyed to see him conscious again.
Tyler’s recovery has been gradual, with each day bringing small improvements. To support him, a fundraiser was organized to show love and raise funds for the family’s journey ahead. His mother shared with reporters: “Every day is a challenge. His first words when he woke up were, ‘Okay, Mom, I’m ready to rock.’”
