Should you have avoided the pitfall of venturing into the comment sections beneath NASA's YouTube videos, it's understandable if you still cling to a sliver of hope for humanity's future. Around 600 BC, the Greek thinker Pythagoras began asserting that the Earth was spherical.
At the time, this idea seemed absurd. However, as we now recognize, it marked the initial crucial step in comprehending planetary dynamics within the cosmos. By the medieval period, this understanding was firmly rooted in scientific knowledge. While they still had to discover that Earth wasn't the universe's center—much to Galileo's frustration—there was no doubt about its spherical shape.
Then, in the 19th century, Samuel Rowbotham emerged, declaring that everyone had been mistaken—the Earth was flat. Surprisingly, the idea gained traction, and after a chaotic 150 years, it resurfaced online through the Flat Earth Society. And yes, they are entirely serious.
The modern flat Earth conspiracy theory is far more intricate than most others, primarily because its adherents rarely agree on their core beliefs. It's a tangled network of assertions, rebuttals, personal attacks on both skeptics and believers, and a rejection of scientific methodology that verges on obsession.
The sole common thread among flat Earth theorists is their unwavering belief in the theory itself. This allows followers to diverge significantly from the central idea, using broad strokes to fill in the numerous inconsistencies.
10. Photographs from Space Are Fabricated

If nothing else, the mindset fostered by flat-Earthers is undeniably commendable. It embodies a spirit of exploration, discovery, and the desire to reveal hidden truths about our world. Aristotle, Galileo, and other historical luminaries likely experienced a similar thrill when confronting the enigmas of their eras.
However, some ideas are simply nonsensical.
A common refrain among flat Earth proponents is: 'I can't say for certain that the Earth is flat, but until I see definitive proof, it seems more plausible than a spherical Earth.' This is peak absurdity, akin to living in a house with windows yet doubting the existence of your front yard simply because your living room lacks grass.
Observing Earth from space is straightforward. Simply view any of the numerous ISS recordings or watch a time-lapse from Japan’s Himawari-8 satellite, which captures Earth’s image every 10 minutes from 35,000 kilometers (22,000 miles) above.
Take in the breathtaking Earthrise (shown above) captured by William Anders from the Moon in 1968, or the profound perspective provided by the Cassini probe as it gazed back at our tiny blue planet during its journey past Saturn.
The Flat Earth Society dismisses such examples—and countless others—as fabricated evidence. If you’ve ever needed a reason to rage-quit the internet, watch videos like this one. (For an extra dose of frustration, dive into the comments section.)
Flat-Earthers argue that every video released by NASA, ESA, CNSA, Roscosmos, and other space agencies is nothing but CGI. Photos are digitally altered, they claim. They conveniently ignore the immense resources and effort required to produce even a single video, not to mention hours of uninterrupted footage.
Applying flat-Earthers’ flawed reasoning, if the Earth is flat and space imagery is fabricated (as they insist), then global space agencies are deceiving humanity. If these organizations have spent over 70 years—since 1946—creating fake visuals to mislead the public, they must harbor some sinister motive. Otherwise, it’s an elaborate prank that even Dane Cook would find excessive.
9. ISS Footage Is Filmed in Zero-Gravity Aircraft

Even if space photos are dismissed as fake, we must still explain the numerous videos of astronauts floating weightlessly inside the International Space Station (ISS). According to flat Earth theory, these are also staged.
However, this represents a more overt form of deception. Instead of relying on CGI, many of these videos are allegedly shot during parabolic flights, often referred to as zero-G aircraft. Parabolic flights are indeed real and are frequently utilized to prepare astronauts for maneuvering in microgravity environments.
In simple terms, it involves a plane executing a controlled descent, creating a temporary state of weightlessness for those inside. If you have some disposable income, you can even experience it yourself.
Yet, it requires an extraordinary stretch of logic to conclude that NASA has spent over 50 years using this method to fabricate an entire space program. The countless videos dissecting this absurd claim are staggering in number.
But no flat Earth theory would be complete without conflicting perspectives. Some argue—or even insist—that NASA films its weightless astronauts underwater or against blue screens, with wires digitally removed in post-production.
8. Antarctica Is an Unbreachable Ice Barrier

In the widely accepted flat Earth model, the planet is depicted as a disc with the North Pole at its center. Surrounding the edge is an unbroken ice wall—Antarctica—encircling the entire Earth.
To visualize this, imagine the Earth as a pizza; Antarctica would be the thick, doughy crust. This icy barrier prevents the oceans from spilling off the edge, and what lies beyond remains a mystery. It could be uncharted marvels or an endless expanse of ice.
Speculations vary from scientific hypotheses to religious fervor. Some suggest that beyond the Antarctic ice wall lies another ocean, and further still, the enigmatic 'forbidden continent, Antichtone.'
Samuel Rowbotham abandoned attempts to theorize, stating, 'Human entry is blocked by towering cliffs of eternal ice, stretching beyond the reach of sight or telescope, vanishing into impenetrable darkness.'
Given that numerous explorers have crossed Antarctica and the South Pole has become a tourist hotspot, it’s hard to believe anyone still buys the 'eternal ice cliffs' narrative. But then again, on a flat Earth, the impossible is just another ordinary day.
7. The Earth Lacks Any Curvature

This might seem obvious, given the core belief that the Earth is flat. However, without satellites or space stations, evidence becomes scarce, which is why this claim is so passionately defended.
This idea likely sparked the entire movement, and it’s worth examining why. When you gaze at an uninterrupted horizon, it appears perfectly flat. But if the Earth were spherical, you’d expect to see some curvature, as spheres naturally curve. Even a simple Ping-Pong ball demonstrates this.
The key factors here are scale and perspective. From the surface of a sufficiently large sphere, a full 360-degree view presents a disc-like appearance because your line of sight doesn’t extend beyond where the curvature falls below the horizon.
Additionally, you can’t observe the horizon dipping on either side when looking straight ahead because the Earth isn’t cylindrical. Without a prior frame of reference, an unobstructed view of the horizon in all directions could easily lead one to assume they’re standing on a flat, circular plane.
Of course, we do possess a frame of reference. This isn’t some cosmic enigma. It’s basic knowledge taught in elementary schools. However, once you adopt the belief that you’re being deceived, the only thing you can rely on is your own perception. And from that perspective, every horizon appears perfectly flat.
6. Gravity Is a Myth

Gravity is the force that draws objects with mass toward one another. It’s what anchors you to the ground, governs the tides, and keeps planets in orbit around the Sun. It’s also the reason Earth is spherical—or nearly so. Gravity compresses the planet’s mass into hydrostatic equilibrium, balancing inward and outward forces.
Since a flat Earth wouldn’t conform to gravitational laws, some argue that gravity itself is nonexistent. Instead, they propose Universal Acceleration (UA).
UA posits that the flat Earth is perpetually accelerating upward, akin to a massive spacecraft. In practice, the effect is similar. When you jump, you return to the ground—not because you’re falling, but because the Earth is rising to meet you.
So, what drives this acceleration? This is where explanations shift from unclear to outright baffling. One hypothesis suggests that a layer of dark energy beneath the Earth propels it upward. Yet, no one can explain how this works or why flying creatures, like birds, don’t crash to the ground. It’s not as if they’re perpetually flying upward to evade the colossal disc chasing them.
5. The Sun Is Not Millions of Miles Distant

The Sun is allegedly just 4,800 kilometers (3,000 miles) away and a mere 51 kilometers (32 miles) wide. It’s also described as a massive, interdimensional light source that orbits in a circular path, illuminating the flat Earth like a lighthouse. While this may sound like mockery, it’s almost verbatim how flat-Earthers portray it.
As noted earlier, in the flat Earth model, the planet is a circular disc with the North Pole at its center and a vast icy ring (Antarctica) encircling it. Imagine moving a flashlight in a smooth clockwise arc over a paper plate—that’s the Sun. Its light doesn’t cover the entire plate simultaneously, explaining the cycle of day and night. More importantly, this is a concept anyone can grasp without needing a science degree (unlike the abstract idea of 93 million miles).
What about seasons or the midnight Sun at the poles? Suppose the Sun orbits the Earth in this manner. Perhaps it tilts slightly, creating the seasons. That works. Maybe it drifts closer to the North Pole in summer and farther in winter, resulting in extended daylight in northern regions. That also makes sense.
But how does this explain summer in the southern hemisphere, when Antarctica experiences 24-hour sunlight? If Antarctica were a ring encircling the Earth, it’s impossible for one section to receive continuous light without the entire Earth being illuminated as well.
Unless, of course, Antarctica’s midnight Sun is also a fabrication. If you’re noticing a recurring theme, you’re not alone. But this is where things take a wild turn.
4. The Sky Is a Glass Dome

To be clear, not all flat-Earthers subscribe to this idea—just the more extreme ones. The theory suggests that the sky and everything within it are illusions. What we perceive is actually a dome concealing the true nature of the cosmos. No one knows what lies beyond, as the dome obstructs our view. Perhaps aliens, or God observing us like a benevolent figure behind a two-way mirror while another force pressures us into submission.
The dome theory has strong biblical roots, referencing scriptures that describe God placing a “firmament” above the Earth. Speculations about what lies beyond this dome range from a vast ocean to endless emptiness.
Most proponents argue that the Sun and the atmosphere are contained within the dome—it’s what keeps the atmosphere intact in the absence of gravity. Nearly everyone agrees that whatever exists beyond the dome, it’s not the outer space we’re familiar with.
If the idea of living in a Stephen King-esque reality isn’t strange enough, there’s an additional theory suggesting that a hologram is projected onto the dome’s surface, creating the celestial phenomena we observe at night.
To accept the hologram theory, you must navigate some challenging questions—such as who created it, how, and why? As expected, the answers fall into two categories: paranoia and aliens.
A more popular belief is that even if the entire sky isn’t a hologram, the Moon certainly is. Countless YouTube videos show the Moon “glitching,” “melting,” and behaving oddly, which many interpret as undeniable evidence of a centuries-old global conspiracy. It couldn’t possibly be atmospheric distortion, camera issues, video errors, compression artifacts, or any other logical explanation.
3. NASA Was Established by Nazis

To the Flat Earth Society, NASA is the ultimate villain. Combine a generous dose of Freemasons, Illuminati, reptilian overlords, and demonic forces, blend them together, sprinkle with mystical fairy dust, and let it ferment. In a week, you’ll have a fully formed NASA. The only entities worse are their shadowy controllers, but since no one has ever captured their image, we’re left without a target for blame.
However, the culprits might just be Nazis.
To understand this, we must revisit the 1940s, a tumultuous decade marked by World War II. During this time, a young engineer named Wernher von Braun was constructing rockets for the Nazis. Von Braun is now infamous for designing the V-2 ballistic missile, which unleashed devastation on London in 1944.
After surrendering to the Allies in 1945, von Braun joined the US Army and became a key figure in the nascent US space program. He led the development of the Saturn V rocket, which propelled the Apollo missions. NASA has hailed him as “the greatest rocket scientist in history.”
From these controversial origins emerged some of history’s most groundbreaking technological achievements and the dream of exploring new worlds—assuming, of course, your planet isn’t flat.
In flat Earth theory, NASA’s Nazi roots are just the beginning. The entire organization is dismissed as a “group of deceitful professionals, fake scientists, frauds, Freemasons, and Mormons.” After all, “Apollo” is another term for Satan, isn’t it? What more evidence could you possibly need?
Ultimately, this mindset almost provides a rationale for the entire belief system. Everyone seeks someone to blame, whether it’s mild frustration with the government or outright hatred for the satanic Masonic sorcerers responsible for casting Matt Damon in fantastic films. If reshaping your worldview helps you pinpoint a target for your vague dissatisfaction with life, then so be it.
That’s simply part of human nature.
2. Rockets Cannot Achieve Space Travel

In recent years, rocket technology has achieved remarkable milestones. In December 2015, SpaceX successfully landed the first stage of its Falcon 9 rocket after delivering a satellite into orbit. In January 2016, Blue Origin replicated this feat with their New Shepard rocket.
Have you ever witnessed a rocket launch? It’s a breathtaking spectacle. However, for flat-Earthers, it’s a source of skepticism. Whether it’s suborbital rockets like the Falcon and Shepard or those destined for the ISS, rockets don’t ascend perfectly vertically. Instead, they follow a curved path known as a gravity turn.
Initially, a rocket ascends straight up from the launchpad. However, gravity opposes the rocket’s thrust in this position. As the rocket gains altitude, it gradually tilts.
This tilt allows gravity to guide the rocket into a near-horizontal trajectory as it nears the Karman line, the boundary where Earth’s atmosphere transitions into space, approximately 100 kilometers (62 miles) above the surface. This maneuver conserves fuel, as rockets expend most of their energy reaching orbital velocity just before crossing the Karman line.
When observed from the ground, this curved path appears as though the rocket is skimming the underside of a glass dome. In flat Earth theory, which posits a dome-like firmament, this arc is seen as evidence that rockets cannot truly enter outer space.
And if a rocket malfunctions and explodes? Flat-Earthers claim it’s the rocket colliding with the dome. Every single time. The tragic loss of life is, unfortunately, overlooked.
1. The Shadow Object Triggers Lunar Eclipses

Some refer to it as the Shadow Object; others call it the Nega Moon. Its true nature remains unknown, but it’s believed to be the cause of lunar eclipses. Typically, lunar eclipses occur when the Sun, Earth, and Moon align, with Earth casting its shadow onto the Moon’s surface.
However, if the Sun is only a few miles away and the Earth is flat, such an alignment is impossible. Enter the Shadow Object. This enigmatic entity is perpetually present in the sky, occasionally passing in front of the Moon to create an eclipse.
Some suggest it’s a hidden counterpart to the Moon, usually obscured by the Sun’s brightness. Others describe it as a formless “thick darkness” that the Moon occasionally encounters. And if the Moon is a hologram, no further explanation is needed.
