There is a stark contrast between the commonly imagined appearance of extraterrestrials and what individuals who’ve encountered them actually report.
The widely known “Grays” are typically described as short and thin, with gray skin, large heads, enormous black eyes that resemble those of insects, and tiny mouths. These beings are frequently portrayed in films, books, and magazine covers as the assumed look of “real” aliens from outer space.
However, actual alien encounter reports showcase a broad spectrum of bizarre beings; some are awe-inspiring, others are terrifying, and some are simply strange!
10. Frog-Like Aliens
Harrison Bailey enjoyed walking so much that he turned it into a business opportunity. He equipped a large green tire with advertising space, and while taking long walks, he would roll it along with various sponsored ads. On September 24, 1951, during one such walk from Chicago, Illinois, to Joliet, he veered into a small wooded area near Orland Park with his tire.
As he neared the woods, Bailey felt a strange tingling sensation on the back of his neck and saw a swirling silver vortex in the sky behind him. However, he was on a tight schedule and had many miles left to cover, so he ignored it and proceeded into the woods. In front of him, he noticed what seemed to be a large frog sitting on a log. As he drew closer, he saw other similar-sized creatures hidden in the underbrush on both sides of the road. Small, round insect-like creatures covered the path. Bailey kept walking, trusting his boots would protect him.
Suddenly, the frog on the log stood up and began moving toward him.
Before long, Bailey found himself surrounded by these bipedal frogs. They hopped up to touch him on his shoulders, back, hips, and legs, and each touch felt unpleasant. He quickly started running, still pushing his tire ahead while stepping over the bizarre insects on the ground. Eventually, he managed to escape the frog swarm.
Further down the road, Bailey came across a large, rounded object that opened up to reveal two humanoid figures, each around five feet tall, wearing helmets that hid their faces. The next thing Bailey recalled was lying on some sort of bed inside the object, where the two beings examined him and, without speaking, somehow communicated that he should tell the world about them. After the strange encounter, Bailey was allowed to leave with his tire. Despite their request, he forgot nearly everything about the experience. It wasn’t until about twenty-five years later, through hypnotic regression, that he was able to recall the bizarre events from that September day, which were then shared with the world.
9. The Space Cone
On Sunday, November 1, 1954, Rosa Dainelli was walking along a familiar footpath through fields and dense brush, on her way from her home to the nearby town of Cennina, Italy, where she planned to leave a handful of carnations at the altar of the Madonna Pellegrina [the ‘Pilgrim Madonna’]. It was a route she took regularly, but everything changed when she entered a small clearing and found an unusual vehicle in the middle of it.
The object stood about seven feet tall and resembled two tall cones joined at their wide ends, forming a shape similar to a rounded diamond. It rested on three small legs and had an opening on its side that revealed two small chairs. Just as Rosa was starting to contemplate the meaning of this strange object, two tiny men—about three feet tall—emerged from the other side and approached her in a friendly manner.
The two men appeared mostly human, though their size and a strange curve in the center of their lips suggested otherwise. Both wore one-piece gray overalls covering their bodies from neck to feet, along with short capes. Their heads were covered by peculiar helmets that shielded their ears. The two small men attempted to communicate with Dainelli, but she could not understand their language. They grabbed some carnations from her and placed them inside the craft. Then, one of them reached into the craft and pulled out two white spheres, giving Dainelli the chance to flee. When she glanced back, they had vanished without a trace.
8. The Silver Monster
It was a long, eerie night on the farm in Kelly, Kentucky. It all began when Billy Ray Taylor witnessed a strange object flying across the sky, leaving a rainbow trail behind it, before plummeting into a deep gully nearby. Taylor rushed to the farmhouse of his friends, the Sutten family, to share what he had seen. However, the family assumed he had just spotted a ‘falling star’ and was embellishing the details.
About thirty minutes later, something glowing approached the house from the fields. Taylor and Lucky Sutten watched through the back door as the strange glow grew clearer, revealing a bipedal creature about three-and-a-half feet tall. The creature had a massive round head, elongated arms that ended in talons, and appeared to be made of silver. As it moved closer, it raised its arms above its head as though surrendering, and there was no obvious reason for its glowing appearance.
Both Taylor and Sutten grabbed their guns. As the creature approached within twenty feet of the house, they opened fire. The creature was knocked backward but quickly ran away. Not long after, another of the same strange beings appeared, staring into the house through a window. When they shot at it from inside, the creature flipped backward and disappeared. Thinking the creature’s body might be nearby, Taylor and Sutten headed toward the front door. However, as Taylor stepped outside, one of the creatures reached down from above and touched his hair with its talons. The family pulled Taylor back inside, and Sutten ran out, shooting the creature and knocking it off the roof.
Another creature was spotted in a nearby tree. Taylor joined Sutten, and both men fired at it. The creature fell from the tree but floated gently to the ground before running off. Moments later, another creature emerged from around the house, rushing toward the men. Sutten fired at point-blank range, and they heard the bullets hit the creature. However, the creature was unharmed and continued running. It became clear to both men that their guns were ineffective, and they retreated into the house.
Despite the strange visitors continuing to trouble the family until around 5:00 AM, the creatures never displayed any aggression. Instead, they seemed merely curious, constantly peering through the windows but never attempting to enter the house.
7. Four Legs and Arms
It was a Sunday afternoon, around 2:00 PM, in Casa Blanca, California. A group of boys were playing in the yard of one of their homes when they noticed a strange object in the sky. Soon, other objects appeared and vanished with a musical ‘ping,’ putting on a display that the boys found entertaining. However, whenever they tried to get an adult to look, the objects disappeared, leaving the boys with the experience all to themselves, which they soon accepted.
One of the objects, vibrant and multi-colored, landed about half a block away in a field. Moments later, two of the older boys noticed a peculiar sight in front of the house next door: a floating figure about three and a half feet tall. It was transparent enough to see the brickwork of the house through its body. The entity wore a belt with a round disk that gleamed like a mirror. While it appeared to have eyes and a mouth, there were four round, diamond-like objects where its nose should be. One of the boys then saw a disembodied arm hanging in midair, motioning for him to come closer.
Soon, another fully-formed being emerged from the landed craft, hovering above the ground but appearing more solid than the previous one. This entity seemed to be draped in a satin-like material and had four legs and four arms, each arm splitting at the elbow. The being somehow ‘spoke’ to one of the boys, instructing him to climb a nearby tree, where he would be picked up in fifteen minutes. The older kids used a hose to keep the younger ones out of the tree, and sure enough, fifteen minutes later, one of the strange objects circled the tree before all the objects vanished for the final time.
6. Ginger Aliens
Jose Antonio Da Silva, from Bebedouro, Brazil, simply wanted to go fishing. He had woken up early to spend the day at the lake, having hiked to his campsite the day before. However, his plans were abruptly changed at around 3:00 PM when he was approached by a group of humanoid beings, about four feet tall, completely encased in strange suits. They paralyzed his legs and forcefully dragged him aboard an odd craft.
For hours, Da Silva sat with his captors as the craft moved through the unknown. Without windows, he could only feel the motion of the vehicle, unsure of where it was headed. They placed a helmet on his head, identical to the ones they wore. Once they arrived at their destination, Da Silva was taken into a large room and placed on a stool. It was here that he saw the beings without their helmets, though he still wore his. Among them was a slightly taller being who appeared to be in charge.
The beings resembled humans but with striking differences: they had long red hair that reached their waists and beards extending to their stomachs. Their eyebrows were thick, around two finger widths wide, and their green eyes were slightly larger than human eyes, lacking eyelashes. The most noticeable difference, however, was their mouths, which were wider than a human’s and devoid of teeth, resembling a fish’s mouth.
Through gestures and illustrations, the beings communicated with Da Silva, conveying that they wanted him to return to Earth to gather information for them, and later, to live with them for several years before becoming their ambassador and guide. Da Silva rejected their proposal. Consequently, he was taken back to the craft and, after some time, dropped off near a stream in the dead of night. When he finally found a road, he realized he was 30 km (about 18.6 miles) away from where he had been fishing. Strangely, four and a half days had passed since his abduction.
5. Big Foot
It was 10:30 PM on a foggy night in Frederic, Wisconsin, when farmer William Bosak was driving home from a Co-Op meeting in the nearby town of Frederic. His headlights reflected off something unusual on the left side of the road. Already driving cautiously due to the fog, Bosak slowed down further as he approached the object. And it wasn’t just any object — it certainly wasn’t a car by the side of the road!
The object appeared to be about eight to ten feet tall and was stationary. On the side visible to Bosak as he drove closer, there was a curved glass panel through which he could see inside. There, he saw a human-like being. The figure seemed to be wearing a tan shirt of some kind, but Bosak could also see short hair or fur covering its upper body and arms. The arms were raised above its head, and more short hair jutted out from the sides of the being’s head, although its face and chin were hairless. Atop its head, two ear-like protrusions extended three inches to either side, and it had large, bulging eyes. Due to the fog, Bosak couldn’t make out more of the figure or the craft, but he’d seen enough. He quickly sped away to head home.
Nearly a month passed before Bosak finally found the courage to tell someone about his encounter. Upon further reflection, he realized that the strange being seemed just as frightened of him as he had been of it, and he regretted not being friendlier at the time.
4. Block Creatures
19-year-old Lee Parrish had just finished driving home from his girlfriend’s house in Prospect, Kentucky, when he spotted a bright rectangular object in the sky. By the time he reached home, his eyes were hurting badly. He also discovered that what should have been a seven-minute drive had inexplicably taken nearly 45 minutes. Concerned, his mother suggested he undergo hypnotic regression to recover his memories of the missing time, and the answers he gave were nothing short of bizarre.
Parish’s car was lifted off the ground by the bright object, and before he knew it, he found himself inside a room that seemed far too large to be contained within the craft. In this strange space, there were three unusual objects. To his left stood a large black slab, shaped like a tombstone, with a bump on top that nearly reached the ceiling. To his right was a red block, just slightly shorter than Parrish himself, and in front of him was a more intricate white block. The white block was about six feet tall and had a surface that curved away from him at the front, with a rectangular ‘head’ protruding from it. Parrish somehow knew these objects were alive, and that the white one seemed to be in charge.
The black slab had a single limb extending from one side of its front, which it began to use to slowly touch Parrish on his side and back. The sensation was disturbing: cold yet burning, it made Parrish feel as though he was vibrating. Next, the red block reached out with its own limb. Parrish sensed that it was slightly afraid of him, but it still touched him gently on the shoulder, then on the side of his head, just above his ear. Each contact felt like being pricked with a needle, though the pain didn’t last long.
After the red block touched him, it moved toward the white object, disappearing behind it—or possibly merging with it. The black slab slowly retreated as the white object made a noise resembling the sound of sandpaper. Then the white object moved towards the black slab, and once again either disappeared behind it or merged with it. Moments later, the black slab vanished, leaving Parrish alone in the room.
Suddenly, Parrish found himself back in his car, staring at a small pond near the road he had been driving on. His eyes were completely bloodshot, and for days afterward, he struggled to sleep due to the intense pain in his eyes.
3. In Soviet Russia . . .
It was around 6:30 PM in Levoberezhniy Park, located in Voronezh, Russia. Children were happily playing while a group of adults waited at a nearby bus stop. Then, something extraordinary caught everyone’s attention: a large red oval-shaped craft, measuring about 45 feet in length and 18 feet in height, was flying in circles about forty feet above the ground. The craft landed gently near the children, and three large beings stepped out, followed by a boxy robot.
The beings were humanoid, but they were about nine feet tall, with extremely long arms and a dome-like structure instead of a head and neck. Each dome featured three eyes: two white ones side by side and a red one positioned above them, which swiveled around like a radar. They wore silver jumpsuits with bronze boots and proceeded to collect dirt samples. One of the beings appeared to be in charge, often making sounds that were assumed to be orders for the others.
At first, the witnesses were too stunned to react, but the situation soon became overwhelming for one young man, who began screaming. The being in charge then focused its attention on him, freezing him in place. Panic quickly spread as the others feared the strange beings were a threat. However, before the situation could escalate further, the beings and their craft vanished from sight.
Just five minutes later, the beings and their craft reappeared exactly where they had been before. But this time, one of the beings was holding a short tube, which it pointed at a teenager, causing him to disappear. A full-blown panic erupted as the beings returned to their craft, which then ascended into the sky. As the oval vehicle disappeared from view, the teenager reappeared out of nowhere.
Researchers were left baffled by the bizarre series of events, but all witnesses remained consistent with their stories. Drawings created by both the children and adults presented a strange yet matching depiction of the alien beings.
2. Tent Creatures
Federico Ibáñez, aged 54, was en route to his vineyards just outside of Turis, Spain around 11:30 AM that day when he spotted a peculiar object ahead on the road. It resembled half an egg, a large dome perched on four short legs, and appeared to be constructed from a gleaming white metal. The object stood approximately 8 feet (2.5 meters) tall.
As Ibáñez studied the strange object, two small figures emerged from a carob tree about 36 feet (11 meters) away and made their way towards the craft. From the side, he saw the beings, one trailing the other. They were about 3 feet (1 meter) tall each, dressed in white outfits that covered their entire bodies, giving them an inflated appearance, almost like they were wearing miniature tents. Their hands and feet were small and dark. The only feature Ibáñez could discern about their faces was the presence of tubes extending outward, about 3 inches (8 centimeters), resembling built-in binoculars.
The two figures hurried to the craft and entered it. The half-egg-shaped object then lifted swiftly and silently, generating a whirlwind as it ascended. Later investigations revealed four small indentations on the ground where Ibáñez had claimed the craft had been, with researchers estimating it weighed around four tons based on the depth of the impressions.
1. Triangle Eyes
Private security guard Piero Fortunato Zanfretta was on his routine patrol in Torriglia, Italy, on a cold, icy night when, just after midnight, everything in his car suddenly malfunctioned—the engine, lights, and radio all went dead, bringing his car to a halt right in front of one of his client's houses. Though unsettled, Zanfretta soon noticed four peculiar lights moving around the house. Thinking they were burglars, he grabbed his gun and flashlight, made his way through the open gate, and crept along the wall to surprise them. That's when someone touched his back.
Spinning around with his gun and flashlight in front of him, Zanfretta came face to face with a 10-foot-tall creature covered in undulating, hairy, green skin. He shined his flashlight upwards to view the face and immediately dropped it in shock. The creature had triangular yellow eyes and red veins running across its forehead. In a panic, Zanfretta quickly retrieved the flashlight and ran towards his car. As he did, he noticed an intense brightness behind him. Turning around, he saw a massive triangular craft glowing so brightly that he had to shield his eyes as it silently ascended from the backyard, accompanied by a hissing sound. In a desperate bid for help, he made a frantic call on his radio, but it cut off before he could reveal his location.
An hour later, two other patrol cars passed through the area and found Zanfretta lying unconscious in front of the now-closed gate to the house. When they approached, he suddenly sprang up, pointing his gun at them with wide, bulging eyes, not seeming to recognize them at all. Despite their efforts to subdue him, they noticed that both Zanfretta and his clothes were unusually warm, despite the freezing temperatures he had presumably been exposed to for quite some time.
Further investigation the next morning revealed two massive horseshoe-shaped depressions in the ground behind the house, as though something enormous had been sitting there. What's more, fifty-two witnesses from around the city had reported seeing a bright light in the same area at the exact time that Zanfretta claimed to have been attacked!
