People engage in peculiar actions every day. We've all likely witnessed someone doing something that feels just a bit off. Maybe it's seeing someone ride a bike in pajamas during a downpour or having a heated debate with loaves of bread at the grocery store. Odd, right? But it's usually easy to dismiss these as harmless nonsense. However, there are times when people's behavior goes so far beyond the norm that it takes quite some time to even begin to comprehend it.
Unfortunately, the ten examples listed here are merely scratching the surface of the madness.
10. The Interest Is How Much?

Back in 2009, Latvia’s Kontora loan company shocked many when it offered a peculiar deal to those struggling through hard financial times. All a person had to do to qualify for a small loan was agree to put up a very unusual form of collateral: their immortal soul.
When asked about this bizarre offer, Viktor Mirosiichenko, the company’s spokesperson at the time, confirmed that the 'soul' clause was the only part of the agreement that clients would be held to. Naturally, the 1% daily interest rate also applied.
At the time, Latvia was the EU nation most severely impacted by the economic crisis, and Mirosiichenko claimed his company was offering a way to weather the storm.
He had faith that the more than 200 individuals who accepted the loan offer would abide by the terms, saying, 'If they don’t give it back, what can you do? They won’t have a soul, that’s all.'
9. Concealing the Reality

In 2009, UK police followed a tip that led them to a grisly discovery in the Sidcup suburb. Inside the home of 83-year-old Daulat Irani, they found a body stored in a freezer. As Irani slowly opened up, it was revealed that the body belonged to her mother, who had passed away at least 20 years prior.
The exact cause of her mother's death remained unclear, but Irani had wrapped the body in a black trash bag and stored it in a freezer in the garage. It’s believed she did this because she feared authorities would uncover that her mother had been living in the country illegally.
The police did not view the death as suspicious, but rather as an unexplained case.
8. What Happened to Cause Your Injury?

In a bizarre event seemingly ripped from a Grey’s Anatomy script, various news outlets reported in 2021 that the bomb squad had to respond to an incident at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital in England. A man had arrived with a World War II-era shell lodged in his backside. When questioned about how it happened, he gave the classic response: 'I was cleaning, set it on the floor, slipped, fell, and then it ended up there...'
Seems plausible.
The bomb squad successfully secured the area and confirmed that the device posed no danger, allowing doctors to remove it without incident.
7. An Unusual Passion for Cutlery

Some people have strange cravings, even without being pregnant. But when 52-year-old Margaret Daalman visited the hospital complaining of stomach pain, the doctors were not prepared for what they found.
Rushed into surgery, doctors painstakingly removed 78 pieces of cutlery from her stomach, including forks and spoons. Daalman, a resident of Rotterdam, suffers from a condition known as pica, which leads her to crave non-food substances or excessive amounts of food. This condition, considered a form of self-harm, is difficult to diagnose without a thorough medical evaluation.
It was later revealed that this wasn’t Daalman’s first trip to the emergency room either.
6. That’s Gotta Hurt!

It seems that not even excruciating pain can deter some people from aiming for the record books. Dong Changsheng, having already pulled a car thirty feet with his eyelids, decided to take things further. He inserted two metal hooks into his lower eyelids, attaching them to ropes that were then linked to an amphibious plane.
Changsheng went on to pull the aircraft a distance of 16 feet (4.9 meters) in under a minute. Afterward, he was quoted saying, 'I’ve pulled a car with my eyelids before, but this was the first time with an airplane... Honestly, I didn’t use all my strength, and I think I could have pulled it three times that distance. I’ve built up the strength to do this, but it would be very dangerous for an ordinary person... I don’t want anyone to try copying me.'
He also credited his abilities to Qigong, which includes practices such as moving meditation and deep rhythmic breathing.
5. A Disturbing Way to Avoid Capture

In 2007, British teacher Lindsay Ann Hawker was tragically raped and murdered by Tatsuya Ichihashi in his apartment in Chiba Prefecture. Ichihashi fled and was eventually caught by police in November 2009. He confessed to the murder of the 22-year-old, explaining that he accidentally smothered her to prevent her from screaming during the attack. After killing her, he shaved her head and buried her body in a bathtub filled with sand and compost.
To make his crime even more heinous, Ichihashi took drastic steps to alter his appearance. He performed plastic surgery on himself, cutting off part of his lower lip with scissors, removing two moles from his cheek with a box cutter, and even attempting to perform a nose job. He later sought help from a clinic to finish the job. The staff became suspicious and immediately notified the police.
This monster was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2011.
In 2011, Ichihashi revealed these shocking details in a book he authored while in prison. Rather than discussing his motives for the murder, he focused on describing his time in hiding and the pain he endured while altering his face.
4. Madness Isn’t a Recent Phenomenon

Engaging in bizarre behaviors is not a recent trend. Even during wartime, it seemed as though the leaders of various countries were constantly trying to outdo each other with outlandish schemes.
During World War II, Hitler decided that the Nazis needed a new kind of army to expand their power. However, it wasn’t a human army he had in mind. Instead, he proposed the idea of creating an army of dogs that could be taught to talk, read, and write. This was influenced by the work of German ‘animal psychologists’ who believed that dogs were as intelligent as humans and could be trained to think and communicate abstractly.
The idea was for these dogs to become part of the German army, assisting in guarding concentration camps, effectively replacing the SS officers. Hitler established an Animal Talking School and began recruiting highly intelligent dogs from across the nation. Before long, bizarre rumors circulated claiming that some of these dogs could spell words by tapping their paws on a wooden board, while others supposedly expressed a desire to join the German army because they had an aversion to the French.
Needless to say, this so-called super dog army never came to fruition.
3. The Poop Patrol

Everyone has likely experienced a disastrous Tinder date, but few have had their date end quite like Liam Smith’s in 2017.
After a pleasant dinner at a restaurant, Smith and his date returned to his shared house. They planned to enjoy a bottle of wine and watch a movie, but before they could settle in, she excused herself to use the bathroom.
When Smith saw her return, she appeared visibly distressed. Upon questioning, she confessed that she had attempted to throw her poop out of the toilet window because the toilet wouldn’t flush. Unfortunately, it got stuck between two non-opening windows instead of landing in the garden as she had hoped.
He offered to assist by breaking the window, but his date had a different idea. She chose to crawl headfirst between the two windows to retrieve the poop, but ended up getting stuck herself. Left with no other option, Smith had to call the fire department, who, though struggling to hold back laughter, promptly began rescuing her from her unusual predicament.
She was freed without injury, but the bathroom window was completely destroyed in the process. As a student, Smith set up a crowdfunding goal of £200 to cover the window repair. However, he ended up raising over £1,200. He and his date decided to split the excess funds, donating it to a charity supporting firefighters and another one working to maintain toilets in developing countries.
Smith also confirmed that he planned to see the woman again.
2. Wait for Me!

In 2016, 65-year-old Susan Angela Brown was on a cruise with her husband when an argument broke out between them. So angry, she disembarked in Funchal, Madeira, and refused to board the ship again. Instead, she decided to head to the island’s airport to catch a flight home.
In a bizarre twist, however, Brown seemed to have a change of heart once the ship had already departed. Rather than sticking with her flight plans, she chose to swim back to the ship. She plunged into the frigid Atlantic waters in an attempt to catch up.
Thankfully, fishermen heard her cries for help. By the time they reached her, she was about 1,640 feet (500 meters) from shore, suffering from hypothermia. The port captain later remarked that if the fishermen hadn't rescued her when they did, she would have likely perished after more than three hours in the water.
Her husband was notified of her ordeal and disembarked in Lisbon. He then flew back to Madeira to be reunited with her.
1. Just, Why?

Reality TV is often known for its outrageous moments, and My Strange Addiction is no exception. However, the series finale in 2011 shocked viewers when a woman named Casie made a jaw-dropping revelation.
Two months before the finale, Casie’s husband passed away following a severe asthma attack. When she first received his cremated remains, she moved the ashes from a plain cardboard box into a memorial urn. In the process, some ashes spilled onto her hands.
Rather than simply wiping the ashes away, Casie made an unexpected choice: she licked them off her fingers. She later described the taste as a disturbing mix of rotten eggs and sandpaper.
Two months later, Casie was still eating the ashes. She even took to carrying the urn everywhere she went—shopping, to the movies, and even dining out.
By the end of the program, Casie began receiving therapy in the hopes of finding a way to let go of her husband and stop consuming his ashes. However, she was not permitted to bring the urn with her to therapy sessions.
