As its presence has grown, so too have the peculiar incidents reported at its various locations. While many view it as a convenient shopping destination, the store has also gained a reputation for hosting bizarre individuals and even stranger happenings.
10. A Walmart Wedding
Everyone has unique visions for their ideal wedding. Some opt for a romantic setting, choosing to tie the knot where they first met. This often leads to ceremonies on cruise ships, in special cities, or at restaurants where the couple shared their first date. For one couple from North Carolina, that special place turned out to be a Walmart.
Wayne Brandenburg, a frequent Walmart shopper, developed an interest in one of the store's cashiers. After some time, he invited her to a Chinese buffet, and she accepted, marking the start of their relationship. When they decided to get married, they chose Walmart as their wedding venue. The store management approved their request, and even the wedding cake was sourced from Walmart's bakery.
9. The Milk Thief
In 2011, an 18-year-old man entered a Walmart in Virginia on all fours, dressed in a cow costume, and managed to steal 26 gallons of milk. Surprisingly, the staff didn’t notice him crawling through the store with the milk. After exiting, he began distributing the stolen milk to bystanders. Later, he was spotted without his costume at a McDonald’s, where police identified and apprehended him.
8. Shoplifting in the Nude
At some point, everyone finds themselves in dire need of socks. They’re easy to lose and often wear out after repeated use and washing. Verdon Lamont Taylor, a 32-year-old from Philadelphia, faced this very issue. Like many, he went to a nearby Walmart to solve his sock problem. However, instead of simply buying what he needed, he chose to strip naked in the parking lot before attempting to steal his new socks. Police had to use a stun gun to subdue him after he spat at an officer and refused to cooperate.
7. Public Intimacy
Walmart’s biggest draw is its ability to offer almost anything at a low cost. However, shoppers at a Kansas store likely didn’t expect to witness a couple engaging in sexual activity in the middle of the day, completely free of charge. Justin Call and Tina Gianakon visited Walmart, stole a bottle of lubricant, and decided to test it before leaving. This test escalated into full-on intercourse in full view of other customers.
Unsurprisingly, the police arrived and arrested the couple. What’s most shocking is that both individuals were completely sober at the time of the incident.
6. Human Teeth Discovery
Shopping for a wallet at Walmart seems straightforward, but one Massachusetts customer encountered an unexpected surprise. Upon inspecting a new wallet, he discovered 10 human teeth inside. He immediately alerted Walmart staff, who then called the police. Investigators confirmed the teeth were human but were unable to determine their origin or how they ended up in the wallet.
5. Kidnapping Confusion
Supermarkets and large retail stores are often filled with parents shopping with their children. Most people don’t give it a second thought. However, at a Walmart in Virginia, a customer grew suspicious upon seeing a man with three young girls. Typically, such concerns arise from signs of abuse or neglect, but in this case, the observer simply assumed the children had been kidnapped because the man was white and the girls were of mixed race.
Joseph, the father, had visited Walmart with his three daughters to cash a check. After returning home, he and his wife Keana were visited by a police officer. The officer explained he was there to confirm the children were indeed theirs. The concerned customer had reported her suspicions to Walmart security, who then contacted the police. The officer asked one of the children to confirm that Joseph and Keana were her parents.
Walmart stated that the customer was the one who initiated the police involvement. She had informed store employees that she didn’t believe the man and the children “fit” together.
4. A Surprise Delivery
The film Where the Heart Is features Natalie Portman as a character who delivers a baby in a Walmart after hours. While this might seem like a fictional scenario, real-life instances of such events have been reported over the years. Surprisingly, these occurrences are more common than one might expect.
In July 2013, a 16-year-old girl, accompanied by her mother, unexpectedly gave birth to a baby boy in a Walmart restroom. The newborn wasn’t breathing initially, but a quick-thinking Walmart employee performed CPR, saving the baby’s life. Both the young mother and her child were later transported to a hospital for further care. The girl claimed she had no prior knowledge of her pregnancy until she went into labor.
3. A Fatal Incident
A few years ago during the holiday season, shoppers at a South Carolina Walmart were horrified to witness a brutal crime. A man viciously attacked his wife, Lilia Blandin, a bank employee at the Walmart, stabbing her multiple times during a heated argument. Despite the efforts of bystanders and authorities, Lilia tragically passed away from her injuries at a nearby hospital. The assailant initially fled but was later captured by law enforcement.
Adding to the shock of the incident, Walmart chose to keep its doors open after the tragedy. While police secured the crime scene, customers were permitted to shop as usual, a decision that left many appalled and questioning the store's lack of closure in the face of such a horrific event.
2. Semen Stalker
In a disturbing incident at a Delaware Walmart, a 22-year-old man named Frank J. Short Jr. targeted a woman, following her through the store before throwing semen on her legs and buttocks. Initially mistaking the substance for saliva, the woman was horrified to realize the truth. She immediately reported the incident to store security, leading to Short's arrest.
Short initially claimed to the police that the fluid was merely a result of his cold and sneezing, later changing his story to say it was saliva. However, forensic analysis confirmed it was semen. Shockingly, this wasn’t his first offense; he had previously committed similar acts at both Walmart and Kmart. Police described him as a loner who targeted women he found sexually attractive, raising questions about his disturbing behavior compared to normal social interactions like offering a compliment or asking someone out for coffee.

A Kentucky Walmart was evacuated after a man entered the restroom with a suspicious backpack. Employees grew concerned when he remained inside for an unusually long time. Upon checking, they found him unconscious. Police discovered the backpack contained a portable meth lab, leading to his arrest on multiple drug-related charges.
In yet another notorious meth-related incident at Walmart, Jennifer Vaughn-Culp from Missouri was detained for shoplifting. While held in a secure area, police discovered she was also producing methamphetamine in a soda bottle concealed in her purse. This led to the store's evacuation for several hours. Despite her arrest, Culp repeated the offense weeks later, this time being caught outside a U-Gas station for identical criminal activity.
