As a child, I always dreamed of becoming a Mad Scientist. Inspired by Frankenstein, the ultimate Mad Scientist, who had all sorts of Electrical and Biological gadgets, I created a shopping list to help bring that vision to life. Check out the links and start dreaming of your ultimate laboratory. If you think something is missing, Mytourrs, feel free to track down an online source and share the URL (bonus points for a photo).
3. Large Knife Switches

Mad Scientists love these switches because of the dramatic flair when they’re flipped, and the clear visibility of the connection. Plus, those exposed electrical circuits are key. The best ones are double-pole, double-throw, and are affordable enough to mount several on the wall. These switches come mounted on a Bakelite base and are crucial when building a living creature, as they bridge the gap between your corpse and the power source.

2. Electrical Spark Resonator

This device was used alongside a Ruhmkorff coil in electrical experiments, dating back to around 1890. As seen in the image, it would be a perfect addition to your basement or attic laboratory. It’s an essential tool for every Mad Scientist.
You can purchase it here.
1. Ruhmkorff-style Induction Coil

I’m not entirely sure why it’s necessary, but it pairs perfectly with the impressive Electrical Spark Resonator and has that eerie, intimidating look – every Mad Scientist is bound to find a use for one of these.
You can purchase it here.
4. Jacobs Ladder (at least two)

Every laboratory needs at least two of these, of course. They’re less hazardous than Tesla Coils. When working in the lab, keep them switched on to create the perfect atmosphere. Choose the largest models you can find to make all the other Mad Scientists green with envy.
You can purchase it here.
5. The Tesla Coil

For truly electrifying experiments, you'll need at least 500,000 Volts. A fantastic video from their website is included. Here’s a video clip of the Tesla Coil in action. This is absolutely indispensable for your lab – without it, you can't truly call yourself a Mad Scientist. When paired with Jacob's Ladders, your lab's electrical effects are set.
You can purchase it here.
6. Oudin Resonator

This discharge coil is capable of producing extremely high voltages at a high frequency. While not as powerful as the Tesla Coil, it’s still a captivating sight – and in the world of Mad Science, appearance is everything!
You can purchase it here.
7. A Static Electrical Influence Machine

This device is guaranteed to steal the show at any gathering, capable of producing sparks over 10 inches long. While it may be costly, no laboratory should be without one.
You can purchase it here.
8. Surgeons' Head Mirrors

Wearing one of these is essential for any experiment. It’s well-known that without a head mirror, the procedure is doomed to failure.
You can purchase it here.
9. Amputation Saws

These are an essential tool for any mad science lab. Once your corpses arrive, you’ll need these to dismember them, preparing the pieces for reassembly to create the ultimate “monster”-like creature.
You can purchase it here.
12. Assorted Specimens

The finest specimens should look impressive on display. Frogs, worms, and grasshoppers just don’t cut it. Not all suppliers can ship everywhere, but at least you won’t have to go out digging in the cold graveyards at night! A Mad Scientist must have at least:
A Brain, a few eyes, a bull testicle (make sure to get two), and from an unexpected source (Christianbook.com), a Heart and fetus (pig).

11. A DIY EEG Kit

I’m not entirely convinced this is authentic, but for around 50 dollars, you can wire up someone’s brain yourself! Just make sure you don’t repeat Dr. Frankenstein’s mistake – always check the quality of your brains before use!
You can purchase it here.
10. Lab Coat

You’ll need a steady supply of these – some stains are simply impossible to get out! Stylish for both men and women. You might also want to grab a few pocket protectors while you’re at it.
