"What makes this place stand out is its tranquility—it's not overcrowded, allowing you to experience true peace instead of just wading through crowds of tourists."
Huntington Beach is widely known as a surfing hotspot, according to Jones. But if surfing isn't your thing, you can check out the Huntington Beach International Surfing Museum, where you can see the handprints and footprints of surfing legends at the Surfers' Hall of Fame. The vibrant HarborWalk Village also offers plenty of fun and free activities for visitors. "With its combination of peace and charm, Destin is an underrated gem for budget-conscious travelers," says DeLucca. "Flights to Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport are also very affordable as the airport continues to expand its routes each year."
7. Folly Beach, South Carolina
Charleston is known for its charming, walkable downtown area with pastel-colored buildings, chic shops, renowned dining spots, and rooftop pools at upscale hotels. However, Charleston’s reputation for being expensive is not entirely deserved. If you think it’s beyond your budget, you may not be looking hard enough.
For a more affordable beach experience, head to Folly Beach, where you’ll find plenty of cheap parking and delicious, fresh fish tacos at seaside stands that won’t put a dent in your wallet. You can enjoy a picnic, splash in the waves, or rent surfboards to get the kids riding the waves in no time. You can also rent a spacious house around Folly for as little as $150 per night.
Alternatively, you can enjoy the best of both worlds: Stay glam at a downtown hotel like the gorgeous Hotel Bennett, which even offers a children’s teatime in its extravagant pink champagne bar, then use your savings for affordable beach days at Folly. It's the perfect combination of luxury and budget-friendly fun!

"I highly recommend Florida’s Gulf Coast for an affordable beach getaway," says Mac Steer, owner and director of Simify, a travel SIM company. "Destinations like Naples offer pristine white sand beaches, delicious seafood, and breathtaking sunsets over the Gulf of Mexico. The beaches remain mostly undeveloped, parking is free, and the hotels are reasonably priced, especially during the off-season. The natural beauty is sure to refresh your spirit."
Steer spent a long weekend in Naples with his family at a beachfront hotel for under $200 a night. They enjoyed perfect weather, calm turquoise waters, and spectacular sunsets. They also dined on fresh seafood, strolled along the pier, collected shells, and relaxed. "It was an ideal budget-friendly beach retreat," says Steer.
Naples offers more than just its beautiful beaches. You can enjoy lakeside paddle tours and visit the nearby Audubon's Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary, both providing refreshing water-based experiences away from the shore.

Remember, small savings add up, so prioritize what matters most for your trip—those extra vacations are waiting!
12. Playa Buye, Puerto Rico
"I’d say Puerto Rico's southwest coast is one of the best budget-friendly beach destinations in the U.S.," says Damià Fuentes Escoté, co-founder of Punta. While Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory, the cost of living is significantly lower there compared to the U.S. mainland. And what makes Puerto Rico stand out? Its stunning beaches.
"Playa Buye is a breathtaking Caribbean beach with white sand and crystal-clear waters," Fuentes says. "Hop on a boat from Lajas to reach Cayo Caracoles, a mangrove area surrounded by a cluster of small islands. Both Playa Buye and Cayo Caracoles are popular spots for locals, who can be seen enjoying Medallas and listening to reggaeton from their boats."
In addition to the beaches, you can explore the 1882 Faro Los Morrillos de Cabo Rojo lighthouse, which marks the southeast entrance from the Caribbean Sea. Other serene spots include Playa Sucia and La Playuela, but with over 300 beaches to choose from, there’s plenty to discover. If you’re seeking new adventures, try exploring bioluminescent bays or taking a hike through the rainforest inland.
13. Gulfport Beach, Mississippi
Mississippi boasts the lowest cost of living in the United States, making it an affordable state to both live in and visit. Dining and activities in Gulfport Beach are inexpensive compared to most other places in the U.S., and even groceries are more affordable. If you're looking for a beautiful and budget-friendly beach destination, Gulfport Beach is an ideal choice.
Once a vital shipping hub to the Gulf of Mexico, Gulfport Beach has transformed into a peaceful stretch of sand with far fewer visitors than many of the country's more well-known beaches. It remains a quiet spot, with ample free parking, so you won’t have to worry about finding a spot. Beach chairs, umbrellas, and sports gear like volleyballs and jet skis are available for rent, but you can also simply enjoy the calming atmosphere or take a leisurely walk along the boardwalk without spending anything.
