Bedrooms often get overlooked in home design—when they're hidden from guests, they tend to fall down the priority list. This often results in mismatched decor that feels disconnected. But one of the simplest ways to pull everything together and achieve that professional designer look (without the hefty price tag) is by selecting a cohesive color palette. Limiting your palette to two, three, or four shades doesn’t just look great; it creates a soothing, peaceful atmosphere. After all, a room splashed with random, clashing colors might be fun, but it isn’t exactly a haven for relaxation!
To spark your creativity, we've curated some of our favorite bedrooms with expertly chosen color combinations that balance style and serenity. Whether you're after bold contrasts or subtle tones, discover how to incorporate color into your bedroom design, even beyond just paint. Read on for these designer-approved color schemes for your perfect sleep space.
1. Navy, Rust, and Gray

To create a cocoon-like atmosphere in your bedroom, opt for a deep wall color like the rich blue featured here, chosen by designer Ali Henrie. This hue, known as Benjamin Moore’s Knoxville Gray, pairs beautifully with warm accents such as rust-toned bedding, a wooden nightstand, and vintage equine-inspired artwork. According to Henrie, the horse’s chestnut coat was a major influence on the room’s color palette!
2. Red, Rust, Cream, and Black

While it's often advised not to paint a bedroom red, no one says you can't use red in smaller doses. Designer Ginny Macdonald cleverly incorporates red accents in this room, balancing the bold color with a soft creamy white on the walls and curtains. The neutral vanilla base allows for easy changes, so if you tire of the red, it's simple to swap it out for something fresh.
3. Yellow and Gray

U.K.-based designer Pandora Taylor selected a vibrant yellow as the focal point of this bedroom color palette, but softened it with neutral elements. Bright curtains and a lemon-hued coverlet are paired with a nature-inspired gray wallpaper from Sandberg and a creamy scalloped headboard accented with golden trim. This approach preserves the room's calm and refined atmosphere while ensuring the yellow doesn’t overwhelm the space or feel too youthful.
4. Blue and Pink

Designer Pandora Taylor transformed this bedroom with a soft pink hue (Light Peachblossom by Little Greene), complementing it with a deep blue headboard, light fixture, and powder blue textiles. The blush bolster pillow, trimmed with navy blue fringe, perfectly ties the entire color scheme together.
5. Blue, Burgundy, and Brown

This unconventional color scheme features sky blue, burgundy, and brown in a guest bedroom designed by Ryia Jose, the creative force behind Kin & Kasa and former Mytour Home star. Ryia personally crafted every detail of the space—from the panel molding, wallpaper, and ceiling beadboard to the bed upholstery, lampshade, and curtains. The tranquil blue tones (Waterloo and Blustery Sky by Sherwin-Williams) are enhanced by warm brown elements, including the upholstery, a vintage kantha quilt, artwork, and a jute rug.
6. Peach, Teal, and Green

The soft peach-pink hue of this bedroom creates a warm, soothing glow, complemented by natural textures like the jute rug, wooden ceiling planks, and woven Roman shades, which enhance the room's relaxed, casual vibe. To prevent the color scheme from feeling too monotone, deeper tones like teal in the coverlet and green in the custom bench from The Inside add depth and variety.
7. Lavender, Gray, and Black

Lavender is one of the most soothing colors, making it an ideal choice for a bedroom. However, if you're not keen on going all-in with the hue, consider using it as a focal point. Designer Christina Kim did just that in her own bedroom with a lavender headboard. Kim describes the soft hue as "modern, soft, and a little unexpected." To further enhance the room's tranquil atmosphere, she chose a neutral wallpaper—a soft gray grasscloth from York Wallcoverings—to create a cozy feel and reduce echo in the large space. The black campaign nightstand adds a striking contrast, serving as a bold pop of 'color' while still maintaining a balanced look with the room's overall muted palette.
8. Green, Peach, and Rust

A wallpaper mural is an excellent way to express your bedroom's color scheme. This stunning example, designed by Clara Jung of Banner Day Interiors, features a mural from Schumacher that emphasizes the room's predominantly green theme. The serene foliage depicted adds a natural, calming touch, while the emerald green velvet bed from CB2 anchors the design. To balance the dominant green, peach and rust-colored throw pillows provide contrasting accents. (Fun fact: Jung is also a Mytour Home alum!)
9. Blue, Dusty Rose, Cream, and Yellow

After painting her primary bedroom in a soft, chalky blue (Debonair by Sherwin-Williams), Emily Henderson was initially concerned that it might be overwhelming. To counterbalance the bold color, she introduced other soft tones through textiles, like cream bedding, a dusty rose throw, and a golden yellow decorative pillow. Oversized artwork, a large paper pendant light, and skylights also help break up the vast blue walls, adding depth and visual interest to the space.
10. Blue and Yellow

This guest room demonstrates that your bedroom can be both a peaceful retreat and a vibrant, colorful haven. Designed by Abbie Naber of a Naber Design, the bright and inviting space draws inspiration from Palm Springs. "We added vintage lights and nightstands for a touch of warmth and character, while opting for bold hues in the bedding," Naber explains. Although the yellow sheets make a strong statement, the gray headboard and light blue wallpaper from Hygge & West tone down the overall brightness, creating a balanced look.
11. Green, Blue, and Neutrals

Here's an easy, impactful idea: If you're open to a change but not ready to tackle an entire room, consider painting just the trim and molding, like designer Katie Davis did here. The soft green hue, Rockwood Jade by Sherwin-Williams, adds a refreshing contrast to the white walls. Davis complemented this with blue accents, such as an antique lamp and a striped Pottery Barn quilt, and balanced it with warm, earthy tones like a wicker lampshade, woven window treatments, and a decorative pillow. The result is a colorful yet calm space, with plenty of vibrancy but without being overwhelming.
12. Pink and Green

If you're not keen on altering your walls when selecting a bedroom color scheme, you can still bring in color through other elements. In this bedroom designed by Katie Davis, green and pink take center stage, but they're brought to life through the drapery pattern and a stunning headboard.
13. Blue and Orange

Natalie Papier of Home Ec. (the third Mytour Home designer featured here!) originally designed this space for a friend's young daughter, but the vibrant colors are so enchanting that any adult would love to relax in such a room. The lively orange accents might seem bold, yet the cozy ambiance is maintained by using a deep blue shade on the ceiling (Revel Blue by Sherwin-Williams) and a coordinating graphic wallpaper from Belarte Studio. Though orange and blue may seem like an unlikely pairing, art theory explains that these complementary colors work perfectly, as they are opposites on the color wheel.
14. Purple, Yellow, and Peach

This cozy bed nook, created within a transformed walk-in closet, was turned into a book nook by designer Hollie Velten-Lattrell. She embraced a purple color scheme to craft a dreamlike atmosphere. The custom woodwork is painted in a lavender tone with gray undertones (Brassica by Farrow & Ball), and the peach bedding, along with a yellow decorative pillow, provides a refreshing contrast. (Pro tip: A small gray kitten can also complement the palette!)
15. Peacock Blue, Black, and Burgundy

For a moody and atmospheric bedroom, take inspiration from designer Elizabeth Young, who adorned this room with a hand-painted wallcovering from Porter Teleo. This choice introduces color without overwhelming the space with bold patterns and also adds a soft, velvety texture to the walls. Black doors and a deep wine-colored throw blanket further enhance the room's elegant mood.
