At Mytour, we’re all about fun facts. But what excites us even more are those lesser-known tidbits – the kind that make us look extra knowledgeable when we share them in conversations. This compilation features 15 intriguing facts that you might not be aware of (we certainly hope so!). Don’t forget to add your own favorite facts in the comments.
1. Facts 1 – 5

1. Armadillos belonging to the Dasypus genus are unique in that they give birth to four genetically identical quadruplets. This is the only well-documented case of polyembryony (where multiple embryos originate from a single fertilized egg) among mammals.
2. Around 3 pounds of the human body's weight is made up of microbial life, such as parasites and other microorganisms. Surprisingly, many of these are crucial for the body’s overall function.
3. The germs found in feces are capable of passing through as many as ten layers of toilet paper. So, remember to wash your hands!
4. Earwigs are capable of flying. They possess membranous wings tucked beneath their forewings, allowing them to take short flights. While they aren’t great at it, they can fly well enough to move if needed. Despite myths, earwigs don’t spread diseases to humans.
5. Cuttlefish have eyes shaped like the letter 'w' (as shown above). Though they can’t see in color, they can detect the polarization of light, which improves their ability to discern contrast. Remarkably, they have full eyesight before they’re even born.
2. Facts 6 – 10

6. The pyramids were once encased in brilliantly polished white limestone, causing them to sparkle from afar. Some remnants of this (though weathered) can still be seen at the top of the Pyramid of Khafre (as shown above).
7. Female koalas (marsupials, not true bears) have two vaginas, while male koalas have a bifurcated penis. Their mating behavior would likely resemble that of these two humans, known for having the most bizarre relationship in history.
8. Human eyes feature a blind spot, but the brain compensates by filling it with information from the other eye and nearby details, so the blind spot goes unnoticed. To witness the blind spot in action, click here.
9. The avocado is an evolutionary remnant. In the Pleistocene period (when modern humans emerged), large animals like woolly mammoths consumed avocados whole and excreted the seeds. As these giant creatures went extinct, humans took up the task of cultivating avocados, ensuring their survival.
10. Many traffic lights and elevator buttons are actually placebo buttons – meaning they serve no purpose when pressed. They are designed simply to give people the illusion of control. [Source]
3. Facts 11 – 15

11. Rats actually laugh when tickled. Click here for an amazing video demonstrating this fact.
12. On certain parts of Mercury’s surface, an observer would see the Sun rise about halfway, then reverse direction and set before rising again, all within the same Mercurian day. That said, a full day on Mercury lasts 176 Earth days. [Source]
13. Throughout his life, Adolf Hitler was involved in four relationships (three confirmed and one suspected). In all of these relationships, each of the women attempted suicide at least once, with two ultimately succeeding.
14. Sand sharks have an extraordinary method of gestation. When impregnated, a mother shark develops two embryos. The stronger of the two will consume the other before birth. This behavior, known as “intrauterine cannibalism,” also extends to any other eggs present within the mother at the time.
15. The center of a rainbow is actually the shadow of your head. A primary rainbow always forms in an arc 42 degrees around the shadow of your head (referred to as the anti-solar point). To observe a rainbow, you need brightly illuminated rain in this direction. [Source]
