After the success of the previous list on chilling food facts, I thought I’d share another batch of disturbing revelations, many taken from the same source as the first one (1,001 Facts that Will Scare the S#*t Out of You). 1 Facts 1 – 5: A Startling Collection

1. In 2008, a woman in Illinois had to have her dachshund, named Roscoe, euthanized after the dog chewed off her big toe while she slept. Mrs. Floyd, 56, was unaware of the attack because nerve damage from diabetes had left her unable to feel her toes. [Source]

3. Criminals who are generally considered to be physically unattractive receive, on average, a 50% longer jail sentence for their crime than good looking criminals. [Source]
4. Pubic lice is found primarily in pubic hair. But they can also be found on the chest and thighs and, perhaps more revolting, on facial hair (including eyelashes and eyebrows).

Facts 6 through 10

6. In the past, Turkish women suspected of infidelity were placed in a sack with cats and cast into the sea, a practice that continued until the 1800s.
7. Washing towels alongside underwear can result in contamination with feces, according to 'The Secret Life of Germs.'
8. Alkaptonuria is an uncommon disorder where a person's urine turns a dark brownish-black color upon exposure to air.
In the 2000s, up to 29 albino children were brutally murdered in Tanzania, hacked to pieces with machetes. This grisly act was done to supply a black market trade in their body parts, as some believe these parts bring wealth. [Source]
The average human mouth hosts over 700 different bacteria species. Moreover, human saliva plays a critical role in maintaining the right acidic balance in the mouth – without it, the acidity would be so intense that it could erode teeth.
Facts 11 – 15

11. During the famines of 1995 and 1997 in North Korea, the starving villagers resorted to digging up and consuming human remains.
12. When you urinate, a small amount of it enters your mouth via the saliva glands. However, this is not a concern – fresh urine is considered cleaner than saliva.
13. In 1835, the United States experienced a remarkable event: it was debt-free for the first and only time in history.
14. If you're reading this while eating at your office desk, you may want to reconsider. Office desks harbor more than 400 times the amount of bacteria found on a toilet seat.
15. Martin Luther, the religious reformer, is said to have consumed a spoonful of his own feces daily, explaining that he “couldn’t understand the generosity of a God who freely gave such important and useful remedies.” [Source]
