While many of us adore our favorite TV shows, not everyone is willing to commit to having them permanently inked on their body. However, there are many fans who take their love to the next level, with countless tattoos featuring logos and characters from iconic TV shows. Here are some of the standout TV show tattoos you'll find online.
1. and 2. Doctor Who
Considering the immense popularity of Doctor Who—which is celebrating its fiftieth anniversary this year—it's no surprise that there are countless tattoos dedicated to the show across the globe.
While picking the absolute best from such a vast collection is no easy task, Sioux Sinner’s tattoos definitely stand out, and the canvas they are inked on is equally impressive. Her Dalek and Adipose tattoos were created by Bob Maskal at Merddian Line Tattoo in Oak Park, IL.
Traditional tattoo enthusiasts will undoubtedly appreciate this TARDIS, complete with a Gallifreyan seal, as inked by Jenni of Heart and Soul Tattoo in New Mexico.
3. and 4. Firefly
Though the crew of Serenity only graced one season on Fox, followed by a movie, the Browncoats they inspired are among the most passionate fans, which explains why many of them have ink dedicated to the show.
Serenity is undoubtedly one of the most visually unique ships in the science fiction universe, and Flickr user RobinInSeoul made the most of this when she got this breathtaking traditional Asian-style tattoo by Scott Budgen of Lady Luck Tattoos in Waterford, MI. And for the curious, the Chinese characters in the tattoo read “Serenity.”
What makes Sarah Nelson’s Firefly tattoo stand out is that even those unfamiliar with the show can still appreciate its powerful message and the clean, minimalist design. This piece was created by Adam Harmon of Salem Ink.
5. and 6. Star Trek
With six different TV series, 12 films, and some of the most loyal fans in the galaxy, Star Trek has inspired a huge number of tattoos. That said, Amy's tattoos raise the bar with one full sleeve of Trekkie pride and another in progress
Though most Star Trek tattoos are detailed and elaborate (with the exception of the classic communicator badge), there’s something exceptionally charming about Jennifer Renner’s minimalist Trek tattoo, done at Triple T, which simply displays the iconic motto “to boldly go.”
7. Twin Peaks
The same Mez Love, the artist behind that incredible Star Trek sleeve, also created this outstanding Twin Peaks piece. David Lynch would definitely approve of this work.
8. and 9. The Muppets
For those of us who grew up with The Muppets, they will always have a special place in our hearts. But some fans take their love to the next level by permanently dedicating space on their skin to their favorite characters.
For those who were born to rock and loved Electric Mayhem before even hearing Led Zeppelin, it's impossible to fully capture the awesomeness of this tattoo featuring Dr. Teeth, Janis, and the rest. This phenomenal work was done by Andrea of Slave to the Needle.
For those who enjoy the quirky antics of the Swedish Chef, this tattoo is sure to bring a smile—even if it shows poor Kermit sizzling on a hot skillet. Unsurprisingly, Mike, the owner of this tattoo, works as a chef. The artwork was done by Alex Morse of The Canvas Tattoo Studio.
10. and 11. Futurama
Futurama remains one of the rare shows to come back after being canceled. Even though it's been announced that the upcoming season will be the last, fans are still hoping for another revival. With such a devoted fan base, it’s no wonder there are so many impressive Futurama tattoos out there.
This particular tattoo, worn by Geeky Tattoos reader Paige, stands out for its geeky charm. Not only does it depict Bender wreaking havoc on humanity, but it was inked by Michael Bianco at Megacon, and Paige, a physics student, definitely earned her geek cred with it. If you enjoy Futurama tattoos, don’t miss Bianco’s portfolio, which features another incredible piece with giant Zoidberg battling mega Bender.
It’s not uncommon for people to blend their passions with classic tattoo imagery like the Virgin Mary, but it’s especially fitting with Zoidberg, who is undoubtedly still a virgin. That said, the good doctor would likely be thrilled—after all, “Now Zoidberg is the popular one!” This artwork was created by Jon L. of Big Deluxe in Salt Lake City, Utah.
12. The Simpsons
Although The Simpsons has been around long enough to inspire many tattoos from its devoted fans, most of them are simply basic depictions of the characters. That’s what makes this particular piece, created by Tim Pausinger from Toronto, stand out. Featuring traditional tattoo styles and one of Milhouse’s nerdiest quotes, it might just be the best Simpsons tattoo ever.
13. Curb Your Enthusiasm
14. Archer
As one of the most brilliant adult-oriented cartoons on television today, it’s not surprising that someone has gotten a tattoo inspired by the show. This particularly stunning piece was created by Zane at STR Body Modification in Australia.
15. The Munsters
This iconic TV series has inspired a massive following of tattoos, particularly among the goth and rockabilly crowds. However, I haven’t yet come across one that rivals this incredible Grandpa Munster portrait, created by the talented Roman Abrego.
16. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
When Geeky Tattoos reader Moe decided he needed a TMNT tattoo, he suggested to his artist a design featuring the turtle masks forming a leg band. However, when Austin West from Divinity Tattoo in AZ proposed a different concept, Moe immediately loved it, and thus the striking heraldry of turtles design was brought to life.
17. My Little Pony
No matter what you think about My Little Pony, it’s impossible to deny the show’s incredibly dedicated fan base. And if you’re in the market for tattoos, there are certainly more unique designs out there. This particular one was inked by Derrek Everette of Broken Art Tattoo in CA.
As always, if you happen to have any tattoos that would be a perfect fit for this list, don’t hesitate to share them! Otherwise, let’s dive into a discussion: If you were to choose a TV show as the inspiration for your next tattoo, which one would it be?
