In 1967, the Sportster lineup adopted the electric starter, a feature introduced on Big Twins two years prior. This upgrade was exclusive to the XLH model, while the sportier XLCH retained its kick starter, which also served as a backup for the XLH.

The XLH continued to showcase upscale details, such as a sleek polished headlight nacelle, chrome-plated rear shock covers, and an expanded fuel tank.
In 1967, Harley-Davidson advertisements highlighted the Sportster's record-breaking achievements at Bonneville. While these bikes were heavily customized, the company proudly asserted, "No one produces a faster factory motorcycle."
