Like many aspects of interior design, there are certain dos and don'ts when it comes to incorporating greenery into your space. Fortunately, we got the chance to chat with Christopher Griffin, plant-fluencer and author of You Grow, Gurl!, who gave us the scoop on what to avoid when decorating with houseplants.
1. You're Lacking Diversity

Why? “A diverse collection creates visual intrigue.” Fill your space with plants that have similar care needs (such as pothos, spider, and monstera), and you'll avoid juggling a million different watering schedules.
2. You're Neglecting Vertical Space

Consider placing decorative pots on bookshelves and adding hanging plants throughout your home. “Whether dangling from the ceiling or mounted on walls, hanging plants free up floor space and draw the eye upward, turning your living area into a vibrant, green sanctuary,” Griffin explains.
3. Your Planters Are Uninspired

For example, consider powder-coated steel bins in a contemporary setting or hand-painted terracotta pots in a classic room. Don’t forget to choose planters with drainage holes (and matching saucers!) to prevent waterlogged roots.
