Since their YouTube debut on January 1, 2007, John and Hank Green have cultivated one of the internet’s most dedicated fan communities. Called 'Nerdfighters,' these enthusiasts have formed a vibrant global network, united by their passion for learning, commitment to spreading positivity, and their cherished motto: 'Don’t Forget to be Awesome!'
Their dedication to making the world a better place is evident in their actions. Through the Foundation to Decrease World Suck, which the Greens help oversee, Nerdfighters have raised millions for charitable causes during their yearly 'Project for Awesome' (P4A) initiative.
The Nerdfighter community has also welcomed numerous high-profile members, including athletes, scientists, and political figures. Below, we highlight five of the most well-known Nerdfighters worldwide.
1. Wil Wheaton
When Wheaton isn’t playing the role of Sheldon Cooper’s nemesis on The Big Bang Theory, he often takes time to acknowledge the Nerdfighter community. The seasoned Star Trek actor even delivered a heartfelt rendition of John’s tribute to nerd culture at the 2011 Penny Arcade Expo, as captured in this video.

A dedicated follower of the Vlogbrothers, Pinches made strides in reducing World Suck when she stepped away from gymnastics to focus on volunteer efforts, including a project in Ecuador. She described the iconic V-shaped gesture as representing 'Belonging to a community, finding joy, and, of course, remembering to be awesome.'
3. Charlie McDonnell
McDonnell, a prominent figure in the online world, is known for his deep love of science, music, and Doctor Who. Beyond his creative pursuits, he is a strong advocate for charitable causes, actively supporting global initiatives focused on disease research and poverty alleviation, often in collaboration with the P4A. 4. Neil DeGrasse Tyson

Tyson once eloquently stated, 'Not only do we live among the stars, the stars live within us.' The renowned astrophysicist, already celebrated for his wisdom, also proudly identifies as a Nerdfighter, describing himself as 'a fan of the cause.'
5. Barack Obama

In February, the President made a notable effort to connect with the Nerdfighter community during a Google-hosted live event. As the session neared its conclusion, John and his wife Sarah “The Yeti” Green shared exciting news about expecting their second child and playfully asked the President to choose between the names Alice and Eleanor. While Obama tactfully avoided picking a name, he won the crowd’s admiration by saying, 'Tell either Eleanor or Alice not to forget to be awesome.'
Four months later, when baby Alice arrived, John tweeted the President to inform him that they had followed his advice.
