We're talking about soft, effortlessly chic color that feels lived-in and genuine rather than bold, attention-grabbing hues.
Essentially, 2024 is about embracing colors that complement your natural beauty while keeping your hair healthy, shiny, and full of life. Here are a few of the most anticipated hair colors for 2024 to consider for your next salon visit.
1. Buttercream Blonde
Buttercream blonde is a warmer, golden version of blonde with hints of cool, icy tones, creating a beautifully dimensional effect.
"This shade works best on dark blonde to light ash brown bases," says celebrity colorist Sharon Dorram. "I blend two or three different blonde hues and carefully apply them throughout the hair, emphasizing the hairline with buttery blonde highlights."
2. Luxe Brunette
Rich, vibrant brunette shades with a luxurious, high-end vibe will continue to dominate through 2024. “This glossy, high-shine effect perfectly mirrors what we’re seeing on the fashion runways this year,” says hairstylist Maria McCool, founder of Calista. “With lighter, pastel clothing tones trending, a bold and deep hair color provides the perfect contrast.”
3. Chestnut Brown
Chestnut brown is a standout hair color for 2024, offering a vibrant twist on traditional brunette shades. “This is an enhanced version of the expensive brunette, incorporating deeper golden tones to elevate the classic look,” says hairstylist Jennifer Korab, owner of Renaissance Salon. “The trend is also gaining popularity with added dimension and face-framing balayage.”
4. Cowboy Copper
The cowboy copper trend took off in late 2023 and has only continued to rise in popularity. “This trend made a big splash and it’s here to stay,” says Michelle Cleveland, owner of Hair Addict Salon. “It’s a stunning color that blends true copper with chestnut brown.”
5. Lived-In Bronde
As you may have noticed, 2024 hair colors embrace a more natural, lived-in vibe. The subtle blonde-to-brunette bronde is the perfect example. “This effortlessly chic, natural look is incredibly on-trend right now,” explains McCool. “It features soft, gentle shading with no harsh lines, and a seamless fade throughout. It almost looks like your natural color.”
6. Ginger Red
While cowboy copper has gained major popularity, Dorram predicts we’ll see a warmer twist on this shade in 2024 as individuals put their own unique spin on it. She’s calling it Ginger Red.
"This is a deep, luxurious orange-toned red with a ginger essence, and it looks absolutely stunning when done right," says Dorram. "The process begins with a semi-permanent copper to reddish-brown base, followed by strategically placed highlights around the crown, and even some deeper red-to-light-brown lowlights for added dimension."
7. Iced Tea Hair
A lighter version of cowboy copper, this reddish-gold hue evokes a refreshing 'iced tea' vibe. McCool explains, "It combines classic warmth with a modern, fresh twist, offering a stunning look that suits a variety of skin tones."
