However, while laundry itself might not be something you eagerly anticipate, it’s possible to transform the laundry room into a space you actually enjoy spending time in. 'Make the laundry room a place you *want* to spend time in, rather than one you have to,' advises Rachel Humphreys, co-founder of Humphrey Orr Interiors.
If you're up for a design challenge, the laundry room is a great place to experiment with style. It's a room where you can incorporate creative elements that might not work in other areas of the home. Not sure where to begin? Here are seven design ideas to transform your laundry room.
Add a Statement Light Fixture

While the standard ceiling light in your laundry room may serve its purpose, it’s far from inspiring. A striking flush mount light can completely elevate the space, says Peter Yera, director of design and development at Fine Art Handcrafted Lighting. 'A simple way to upgrade your laundry room is by installing a beautiful flush or semi-flush mount,' he suggests. 'Opt for a smaller light with lovely touches like a gold or silver leaf finish, crystals, or other decorative details to instantly enhance your laundry room.'
Refresh the Walls with a Coat of Paint

Interior designer Paloma Contreras suggests Sherwin-Williams' Smoky Salmon as a unique option. 'I love the richness of this color, especially in a utilitarian space like the laundry room,' she says.
Not a fan of pink? Try a vibrant color that might be too daring for other areas of the home, such as bright blue or lush green. And don’t stop at the walls—'Go bold and paint your cabinetry a fun color,' advises Humphreys.
Add Some Wallpaper
Christopher TestaniWallpaper is a wonderful way to add character to your laundry room. Choose a bright floral or a quirky retro pattern. If you find a wallpaper you adore but it doesn’t quite match the vibe of the rest of your home, feel free to make it the star of your laundry room.
You can also mix wallpaper with paint for an extra punch. For example, paint the cabinetry or trim while covering the rest of the space with wallpaper. Want to really elevate the look? Consider wallpapering the ceiling and pairing it with bold paint on the walls.
Hang Up Some Artwork

Just like any other room in your home, your laundry room’s walls will feel more inviting with artwork. You don’t need to splurge or obsess over finding the ideal piece. Why not print and frame that stunning beach photo you took last summer or create a curated gallery wall?
Don’t Skip the Decor

Whether you prefer a minimalist approach or have a collection of various detergents, dryer sheets, scent boosters, and stain removers, Lindsay Droz, co-founder of the eco-luxe brand L'Avant Collective, recommends installing open shelves for both style and practicality. Add decorative jars and baskets to organize products and maintain a tidy space.
Incorporate Rugs and Runners

A rug or runner can add both color and comfort to your laundry room, says HomeGoods' featured expert Jenny Reimold. 'Make the space feel cozy and welcoming by introducing a stylish rug or runner that adds warmth, color, and texture,' she recommends. 'Choose a durable, easy-to-clean rug with a bold geometric design, a timeless Persian-inspired pattern, or a natural jute runner to create style from floor to ceiling.'
Add Luxury Towels and Textiles

Instead of using a roll of paper towels or an old dish towel, Reimold suggests upgrading to plush, high-quality bath towels. 'Neatly stack towels on open shelves to create a spa-like atmosphere, and consider adding matching hand towels or drying mats,' she advises. 'Look for towels that complement the color scheme of your laundry room or select textures that add visual interest, such as waffle weave or Turkish cotton.'
