As the temperatures shift from warm to chilly, it’s time to swap out your flip-flops and wedge sandals for some fall boots. Boots, a staple of autumn fashion, come in a variety of styles. To help you stay on top of the trends and look your best all season, we reached out to styling experts for their favorite fall boot trends.
1. Mid-Calf Booties
This season, mid-calf booties are taking over, offering a stylish alternative to the usual ankle boot. They provide a flattering fit around the ankle and can be paired perfectly with cropped wide-leg pants. 'They look fresh and are ideal for keeping your ankles warm,' says Sahra Brandt, personal stylist at Shop the City. 'The boot tucks right under, so you won't have to worry about chilly ankles.'
Leopard Print Boots
Animal prints are a classic fall trend, but this year, leopard boots are particularly making waves. 'Whether they're short, tall, heeled, or flat, leopard boots are the footwear of the moment,' shares Jennifer Johnson, fashion expert and owner of True Fashionistas. 'You can pair them with traditional black or denim, or get creative with colors like pink or blue.' Brandt also loves styling them with a denim midi skirt or dress, or a black maxi dress with a bold split.
Moto/Biker Boots
Looking for a bold, edgy vibe this season? Moto or biker boots are your go-to. 'This trend is about adding that daring edge to your outfit,' says personal stylist Tami Harrigan. 'Biker boots work wonders with fitted dresses or flowy skirts, transforming your look instantly.' For an even bolder choice, pair them with leather for a striking effect.
4. Suede Boots
Suede boots are a timeless favorite and a major trend for fall 2024. Soft and versatile, they come in a variety of neutral shades that make them easy to style. 'What I love about suede is that it pairs with everything and stays looking fresh. If it gets a little worn, all you need is a brush to bring it back to life,' says fashion expert Jennifer Johnson.
5. Square Toed Boots
Dejeuné Harris, the founder of Your Style Is Forever, is a big fan of the square-toed boot trend making a strong comeback. After years of pointy toes dominating, it's now the square toe’s time to shine. 'Comfort is driving this trend,' says Harris. 'I love these boots because they are both practical and stylish, mimicking the natural shape of the foot for longer wear.' These boots are also a nod to the '90s and early 2000s styles, which are returning to the spotlight.
6. Chunky Platform Boots
Chunky platform boots are making a big return this fall, bringing '90s vibes back in full force. 'Now this is how you make a statement this season,' says celebrity stylist Nina Vargas. 'These sky-high platforms are not just a trend—they’re here to stay. Thanks to Netflix’s Wednesday, the grunge goth look is back, and it’s everywhere this fall. They’re functional, warm, and bold all at once.'
7. Heeled Boots
Heeled boots are back in fashion after a brief hiatus. 'I’m so glad they’ve returned,' says Jennifer Johnson. 'They add a polished, ladylike touch to any outfit, and this elegant look is really having its moment right now.'
8. Cowboy Boots
Western-inspired fashion is having a major moment this fall, and cowboy boots are leading the charge. 'They’re comfortable, versatile, and can be styled with everything from jeans to skirts and dresses,' says stylist Leah Wise. 'Cowboy boots fit perfectly into the current western and boho trends, pairing effortlessly with long skirts, studded belts, work jackets, and suede.'
