When traveling internationally, certain streaming services restrict access to content or even block your account. Downloading movies and TV show episodes is a convenient solution to stay entertained during your journey, especially when Wi-Fi or mobile data is unavailable.
As a premium HBO Max subscriber on the ad-free plan, you have the ability to download a wide selection of movies and shows for offline viewing. Here’s a detailed guide to help you get started.
Downloading HBO Max Shows and Movies: A Quick Tutorial
To begin, ensure you have the HBO Max app installed on your mobile device. Log in to your HBO Max account and connect to Wi-Fi, though you can enable downloads via cellular data in Settings > Video Options.
Locate the movie or episode you wish to download offline and tap the Download icon. If you prefer a language other than the default, select it before initiating the download. To adjust video quality—such as speeding up the download or conserving device storage—navigate to Settings > Video Options > Download Quality and choose Fastest download. Note that downloads are not supported on desktop devices.
How to Access and Watch Your HBO Max Downloads
To view your downloaded content, head to Profile > Downloads and click the Play icon when ready. HBO Max allows up to 30 downloads across all devices linked to your account, with a maximum of five copies of any single movie or show shared among profiles and devices.
Downloaded movies and shows will expire after 30 days if not viewed, or 48 hours after playback begins. Additionally, downloads expire if the content is removed from HBO Max. To renew expired downloads, go to Profile > Downloads > ! > Renew.
