PlayStation 5 users can conveniently download games directly to their consoles using the PlayStation app. This feature allows you to start a download while away from home, ensuring your game is ready to play upon your return—provided your console has sufficient storage. Additionally, there’s now a solution to manage storage issues remotely.
Previously, freeing up space on your PS5 required accessing the console’s settings directly. However, the newest PlayStation App update enables users to delete games, apps, and other media from the PS5’s SSD remotely. (While remote downloads are also supported for PlayStation 4, storage management for PS4 is not yet available through the app.)
To access remote download and storage management features, ensure you have the latest version of the PlayStation app installed. Additionally, your PlayStation Network account and PS5 must be linked to the app. The app guides you through the setup process during initial use, but you’ll need to be near your PS5 to finalize it.

To utilize the app for remote downloads or deletions, your PS5 must be connected to the internet and either powered on or in rest mode. The feature is unavailable if the console is completely turned off or disconnected from the internet.
Steps to Remotely Download Games to Your PS5 (and PS4)
Navigate to the “Game Library” section.
Choose “Purchased.”
Browse through your collection and select the game you wish to download.
Tap “Download to Console.”
The download process will initiate automatically.
You’ll receive a push notification once the download finishes.
You can also instantly download games purchased from the app’s “PS Store” section or when adding free PSN titles to your library for the first time.
Steps to Remove Games and Apps from Your PS5

Go to the “Play” tab.
Click the cog icon to access the Settings menu. Your PS5’s available storage is displayed at the top.
Select “Storage” to see a list of items stored on the PS5’s SSD.
Check the circle next to a game, app, or other content to mark it for deletion. Multiple items can be selected simultaneously.
Once ready, tap “Delete games” followed by “Delete” to confirm.
Wait briefly as the selected items are removed.
