Alexa Routines provide a convenient way to execute multiple actions with just one voice command on your Amazon Echo. These routines have now been enhanced, allowing you to include specific songs, podcasts, and radio programs.
The update is expected to be available in the Alexa app shortly. Once it arrives, here’s how you can incorporate music into your daily routines.
Setting up a Routine for your Echo speaker is straightforward. Open the Alexa app, access the menu (top left button), and select Routines. Then, tap the large plus icon to create a new routine.
Start by setting a trigger phrase or word. For instance, you can configure your Echo to switch on the lights, provide a weather update, and play calming music when you say, “Alexa, good morning”—or “Alexa, I hate Mondays.”
Next, select “Add action.” A variety of icons will appear, such as News, Smart Home, Weather, and the newly added Music feature. With Music, you can choose a song or playlist from various services like Amazon Music, Spotify, Pandora, and iHeartRadio. It also accommodates podcasts and radio programs, allowing you to kick off your day with a preferred news podcast.
Include as many actions as desired, then click “Create” to finalize the new Routine. Within a couple of minutes, it will be set up and ready to use. All that’s left is to remember to engage with Alexa while savoring your morning coffee.
