Several years back, Bethesda and Arkane Studios brilliantly combined a first-person shooter with time loops reminiscent of Groundhog Day. This innovation led to Deathloop, a standout title from 2021. Currently, Amazon Prime Members can download the PC version for free (previously priced at $59.99) if they redeem it before January 10, 2024.
Deathloop literally bends the rules of time
Few games achieve a perfect 10 rating from IGN and are hailed as a "masterpiece" even years post-release. Remarkably, Deathloop continues to defy time and remains an exceptional gaming experience to this day.
Your objective is straightforward: eliminate eight targets within 24 hours. However, the catch is that failure resets the day, forcing you to relive the same 24-hour cycle. Adding to the challenge, a rival assassin shares the time loop, relentlessly working to thwart your efforts to escape it. Expect repeated failures, requiring innovative strategies to accomplish your missions with each restart.
Unlike most time loop games, Deathloop doesn’t constrain you with a countdown timer. Instead, the day is divided into four segments – morning, noon, afternoon, and night – allowing you to spend as much time as you need in each. The game grants you significant freedom, encouraging creative approaches to achieve your objectives. While some strategies may succeed, others will falter, prompting you to rethink and refine your plans for the next attempt. For more insights, check out the full Deathloop review from IGN here.
