This year, airlines have implemented several changes, and as we've mentioned, most of these adjustments are not in your favor. Recently, American Airlines reduced the number of points AAdvantage members can earn when flying with partner airlines.
American Airlines has unveiled plans to transition from its mileage-based rewards program to a revenue-based system, where you’ll earn points based on the price of your ticket. If you're an AAdvantage member, this might be disappointing news, and the changes don't end there: partner airline rates have been lowered too.
As a member of the Oneworld alliance, American Airlines partners with other airlines like British Airways, allowing customers to earn points when flying with these carriers. Until recently, you could earn full American rewards on most partner flights. However, as The Points Guy revealed, American has updated its rewards page with reduced rates for many economy flights. Here are a few of the changes they've highlighted:
These are just a few examples. The Points Guy found that 180 partner fare classes have been reduced. On a positive note for first-class travelers, many business and first-class flights now offer higher rates. For the rest of us, earning rewards with partner airlines will take a little longer.
