In a major move last year, Apple TV+ secured the rights to both classic and upcoming Peanuts content, including fan favorites like A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving and A Charlie Brown Christmas.
As reported by Simplemost, a brand-new Peanuts holiday special will launch this Friday, December 10. Titled Snoopy Presents: For Auld Lang Syne, this special features Charlie Brown striving to achieve his New Year’s resolutions before the year ends, while Lucy aims to make up for a disappointing Christmas by organizing an unforgettable New Year’s Eve event.
According to Variety, this isn’t the franchise’s first New Year’s-themed special. Back in 1986, CBS aired Happy New Year, Charlie Brown, where Peppermint Patty throws a New Year’s Eve party while Charlie struggles with a book report on War and Peace. However, For Auld Lang Syne marks Apple’s inaugural original holiday special. Produced by WildBrain Studios alongside Charles M. Schulz Creative Associates, the project involves Schulz’s son Craig and grandson Bryan as executive producers, keeping the Peanuts legacy firmly within the family.
While waiting for For Auld Lang Syne to premiere, Apple TV+ subscribers can revisit the collection of Peanuts holiday specials currently available for streaming. Among them is It’s Christmastime Again, Charlie Brown, a 1992 TV special featuring a series of holiday-themed vignettes. In one segment, the children rehearse for a Christmas performance, while in another, Charlie Brown takes on the role of a wreath salesman. Penned by Charles Schulz, this special was added to Apple TV+ earlier this month.
