Just as Star Wars fans can't imagine the franchise without Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, or Mark Hamill, Harry Potter fans can hardly envision the series without Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, or Emma Watson. It's surprising for many Potterheads to learn that Tom Felton auditioned for the roles of Harry and Ron before ultimately being cast as Draco Malfoy.
In a 2011 interview with MTV News, Felton confessed that if he had been cast in one of the main roles, he would have turned into a "very different individual."
"I'm incredibly thankful to be part of the film, but even more so that I got to portray Draco," Felton shared. "I firmly believe that Rupert and Dan are the only ones in the world who could have played their characters better, and who could have handled the immense behind-the-scenes pressure they faced over the past decade."
Despite the onscreen rivalry between Harry and Draco, Felton revealed that there was never any animosity between them offscreen.
"From the start, Daniel created a strong sense of unity among us," Felton shared. "He was always the most enthusiastic, eager, and had the most fun on set. His energy was contagious, and everyone naturally followed his lead. Over the years, he's truly become like a godfather figure to us, always the most inspiring one, without a doubt."
Even though the Harry Potter film series concluded in 2011, the cast has maintained deep and lasting friendships. Last October, Felton attended a performance of Radcliffe's play, The Lifespan of a Fact, in New York. Felton and Emma Watson are also frequently seen spending time together. This just proves that, regardless of the roles they were cast in, the actors have grown into a tight-knit family over time.
