We explored where to purchase jeans that truly fit for those with a muscular lower body. Standard jeans that fit your waist often struggle to accommodate larger quads, a common issue among athletes like weightlifters and cyclists. Here, we share some effective solutions.
Currently, we haven’t received feedback on brands specifically designed for athletes, such as Barbell, leaving their effectiveness unknown. This hesitation is understandable—after numerous disappointments, investing in expensive jeans online feels risky.
Keep in mind, these suggestions come with a caveat: everyone’s body shape and fit preferences vary. Treat these recommendations as a helpful starting point in your search for the perfect pair:
Levi’s 541
For men or those preferring a looser fit, the top recommendation is the Levi’s 541 Athletic Fit. This style specifically addresses the issue with extra space in the seat and thigh area, combined with 1% elastane for added stretch. Other notable mentions include the 569, 527, and 502's with stretch.
Denizen
To clarify, Levi’s isn’t sponsoring this content. Denizen, a Levi’s sub-brand available at Target and other retailers, offers jeans that surprisingly accommodate athletic builds well, even if that’s not their primary focus. Key features include:
Women’s sizing (though men might also find them appealing, they’ll likely need to browse the women’s section)
...featuring “curvy” designs
...and highly stretchable fabric.
The term “curvy” refers to cuts that provide more room in the hips relative to the waist size. This design works wonderfully regardless of whether the curves are due to muscle, fat, or bone structure. Don’t overthink whether you identify as curvy—focus on whether you need extra fabric and stretch in the butt and thigh regions. I personally own a pair labeled “curvy skinny,” which might sound contradictory, but they fit perfectly, and I don’t consider myself particularly curvy or skinny.
Old Navy and Gap
Old Navy’s Rockstars with built-in sculpt and Curvy Skinny jeans are popular for the same reasons as Denizen. Similarly, Gap’s True Skinny jeans have their admirers. Many people recommend these stores for finding jeans that comfortably fit larger buttocks and thighs—just opt for the stretchiest options, regardless of the “skinny” label.
Honorable Mentions
These jeans were each mentioned once, so I can’t confirm if they follow a specific trend, but they’ve made at least one customer happy:
Duluth Trading Company’s DuluthFlex Weekender
Buckle Seth
Eddie Bauer Men’s Flex
Athleta Skulptek
