DCLIf I had to identify the worst part of having a cold, it’d probably be the incessant runny nose. It's pretty embarrassing, honestly. Nothing makes me feel more like a helpless child than having my nose drip uncontrollably. And as adults, we blow our noses when they start running. We pile up tissues and shrug it off as part of the cold experience. Even with my eco-conscious mindset, I wouldn’t ask you to give up your nose-blowing habits completely, but some doctors may now suggest exactly that.
That's right. Recent research indicates that blowing your nose in an effort to clear stuffiness actually pushes mucus back into the sinuses, hindering proper drainage and ultimately worsening the congestion.
The solution, although it may sound a bit gross or juvenile, is to blow your nose less frequently. By doing so, you’ll ease your congestion and save a lot of tissues along the way.
And if you absolutely have to blow your nose, consider using a handkerchief!
