With the recent surge in credit card hacking incidents, many are becoming more cautious about using their cards. Blur enhances security by creating disposable credit card numbers to shield users from cybercriminals.
Previously known as DoNotTrackMe, Blur offers a browser extension and mobile app that has received numerous updates. One of its standout features is credit card masking, which lets users make purchases without revealing their actual card details. The feature is free for the first 30 days, after which it costs $4.99 per month.
After signing up and installing the browser extension, a 'Protect My Card' alert will appear when making an online purchase. This allows you to use a masked card. Blur generates a one-time credit card number, security code, and expiration date automatically. The app also works in-store; just input the payment amount, select your location, and provide the generated card details to the cashier.
Business Insider reports:
Masked cards provide a great benefit because they leave no record of your actual credit card in the databases of the websites where you shop," says Abine co-founder and CEO Rob Shavell. "The principle behind our security approach is simple: Hackers can't steal what they don't have.
For added security, they do not store your real credit card information.
The data is encrypted and kept safe by the company's banking partner. "The key takeaway is that consumers shouldn't trust us more than any other vendor," he explained. "The real advantage is that the more consumers use masked cards, the fewer places their actual card information is exposed."
