Conferences and conventions are fantastic venues for networking, though initiating conversations with strangers can feel intimidating. Carrying a power strip can simplify this process significantly.
If you want to meet new people but prefer them to approach you, Jonathan Long from Entrepreneur recommends keeping a power strip in your bag and setting up near an outlet:
Every attendee carries mobile devices, tablets, and laptops, making power outlets the most sought-after resource at any conference. Pack a power strip in your bag. This serves two purposes — your gadgets will always stay charged, and you’ll instantly become the hero of the event for those nearby.
When others notice your power strip, they’ll assume you’re offering to share. This provides an easy conversation starter, allowing you to smoothly introduce yourself or discuss the event. If a group is already gathered around an outlet, you can step in and save the day. Offering help before asking for anything is a key principle of effective networking, and everyone will appreciate your generosity in providing power.
