Image Credit: ARB/Getty ImagesThe list of items potentially tainted with Listeria monocytogenes continues to grow. Recently, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and Savencia Cheese issued a voluntary recall for specific soft ripened cheeses available at stores like Aldi and La Bonne Vie. This recall coincides with a series of other product recalls, including frozen waffles, pre-cooked chicken, and eggs, linked to multiple Listeria outbreaks.
“Retailers who received the affected products have been notified and are currently removing them from shelves,” the statement says. Consumers who purchased any of the recalled items are advised to "avoid consuming them and return them to the store for a full refund."
During routine inspections, the company discovered that its processing equipment was contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. This harmful bacterium is responsible for listeriosis, an infection that can cause symptoms like fever, chills, headaches, and nausea. Listeriosis poses a significant risk to vulnerable groups, including pregnant individuals, older adults, and those with compromised immune systems.
Cheese Recall: Which Items Are Included?
Fortunately, only six items are part of this recall: Emporium Selection Brie, Supreme Oval, La Bonne Vie Brie, La Bonne Vie Camembert, Industrial Brie, and Market Basket Brie. Although these products were distributed to a limited number of U.S. stores, it’s important to check your cheese inventory to confirm you don’t have any of the recalled items.
