The Chase Ultimate Rewards card is widely regarded as one of the best for earning points on purchases. However, Chase has announced a reduction in the redemption value for Amazon purchases starting in September.
Chase notified customers via email, stating:
As of September 1, the redemption rate for Amazon.com purchases will change, with $1 now requiring 125 points, up from the previous rate of 100 points.
In addition, points will be deducted at the time your order is placed, rather than when your purchase ships.
In short, Amazon purchases will now require more points to redeem. However, the email confirmed that these changes will not affect other redemption options such as cash back, gift cards, and travel. It might be a good idea to avoid using points for Amazon and consider other redemption choices instead.
